Fun idea...but not functional.
As a school-based OT, I have a lot of pencil grippers, but I am always looking for something more fun – something more engaging to 5 and 6 year olds than the standard, blah, grippers. I had high hopes for these because they appeared to provide the structured guidance for finger placement that I need for my kiddos, and they’re cute! What kindergartener isn’t going to have fun with an owl on their pencil, right! Unfortunately, they also have a significant design flaw. There is a loop through which the child places their tall/middle finger, and that loop has a bump on it (I think it’s supposed to be the owl’s feet/claws). The problem is that the bump actually blocks the ability to press the pencil to the paper. For correct positioning, the pencil should be resting back in the webspace (space on your hand between your thumb and your index finger). In order to touch the pencil point to the paper with this gripper in proper position on the pencil, the pencil must be held upright, more perpendicular to the paper, which is incorrect positioning. I presume the idea of the loop is to provide more guidance to keep the tall/index finger in place, but even if they remove the bump, I can’t see how it would not impede writing because it drags on the paper, preventing smooth movement of the pencil. Overall, very disappointed in this – as cute as it is, it’s not remotely functional. I will be returning.

Modern and fun take on pencil grips
As a pediatric OT, I am always looking for innovative equipment to help my little kids at school to feel confident and succeed. These pencil grips are fantastic and has helped several of my little ones learn to hold their pencils better. Through practice and developing their motor planning skills, they've learned to place their fingers correctly into the pencil grip. The children who benefits from the pencil grips get to choose to work with an 'owl' or an 'elephant' grip. Several of my students no longer need the grip or need me to help them hold the pencil. They are holding the pencil to draw, trace and write on their own. The grips are a bit pricey but they are sturdy and made well to fit varying size fingers.

Kids *want* to use these, and they really do force proper grip
My tutoring students come to me with a range of handwriting ability, from the painful-to-watch to really quite good, but they all ask to use these grips because they're just so adorable. (I only wish I could buy a set in all tie-dye, since that's the one everyone wants!)They aren't *helpful* for my kiddos who already have decent grips going on, and because they're a bit bulky can even make handwriting less excellent for those kids (but only while they're using them). On the other hand, for the kiddos who tend to hold their pencils like Coke cans or baseball bats, these pencil grips are *wonderful*. Their fingers are forced into the correct positions (some other grips may be comfortable, but still allow bad habits), but they don't seem to mind because the owls are so cute. It does take some time and consistency to retrain their habits so correct grip transfers to writing even without using the little owls, but it's a very helpful tool. And I have lots of students saying, "Text my parents so they know where to get owls for me to use at home!"

Adorable and helpful
I got these for my 4yr old sons to use, as they practice writing letters. They've struggled to maintain good pencil posture, and I was hoping these would help.Firstly, my son's have been much more excited to practice handwriting, because they get to choose which owl to use. They don't have to think about their grip, and I think their fingers have an easier time forming the letters due to the decreased strain. These are cute, functional, and I'm so glad I bought them!!! 10/10, would buy again.

Happy granddaughter, happy Nanna!
I bought these for my five year old granddaughter who is having difficulty holding her pencil.I think it might take a little bit of encouragement for her to use them correctly. She slipped them on her fingers, and proceeded to walk around the house! The grip is nice and tight, and you need to pull the pencil through to slide the grip on. The finger placement is perfect, and natural feeling while writing.Glad I read the reviews, and went with this company.

You never know
I bought these for my daughter shes just turned 6 and she isn't to sure what hand is her dominant hand yet so I bought these to try to help her pencil position for both her right hand and left hand hoping her writing would be easier these things just confused her and frustrated her they didnt help! I tried them on my nephew and they just aggravated him! They make work for other children because no 2 are alike but for us it was a waist of money! I wont say do not buy this product because what doesnt work for one may work wonders for another child!

Don’t buy, glad they refunded me
Bought this for my 6 year old as he was having problems gripping his pencil. He tried using it but couldn’t find a comfortable holding position. At first, I thought he just needed to get use to it, but when I tried using them they were horrible. I happen to have small hands. Almost the same size of my 6 year old. And when I attempted to use the product, it just made my hand cramp up. Don’t buy.

Too big for little kids learning how to write
Bought it for my grade 1 to help him learn jow to hold a pencil but its too big. Its good gor older kids with big fingers bit not for small fingers.

A little bulky for small fingers
Still a little bulky for my 3 year old, but she loves them. The cute shapes are encouraging her to hold her pencil properly. We are both happy about this purchase.
