Does the cord lock in the extended position so you can use the flashlight freely, or does it auto retract pulling on the flashlight while extended?

This one auto retracts. I am using it with a https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DJ1IXX2 and it hangs slightly down from the spool, but does not continue to extend. It doesn't pull enough to be anoying when deployed. If you want a locking one, use the https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001F0DCNQ. This one has a much harder retract tension however. I used it to tether a gopro and it worked well. The RT4-5912 is about 2/3's the size of the RT3-0092 for comparison.

i have a sealife 1400 camera, along with a strobe. how long is the extension, and can it be used to hold the camera?

I think it pulls tight. But it has a lock if I’m thinking of the correct one. I bought two different ones. I use both when I dive.

Will this support a14 oz compact camera?

The gear keeper has 9 oz of retraction. It is designed to retract a 4 AA flashlight. I use it on my GoPro on a pole. It works flawlessly. I don’t have a weight on the GoPro with dive case and Go Pole but with it filled with water all that should weigh close to 16 oz.

Works well for a good price

I bought this to replace a similar one I had for my Oceanic dive computer. The computer is quite a bit heavier than the small flashlights so I was not sure it would hold up the weight of it but was pleasantly surprised. I used it on a dive trip this week and it worked perfectly.

Very sturdy

It's bigger than I thought in the image but it is sturdy and has good pull force. But as a warning don't let it snap back into place at full length or the clip will break

Nice clip

I bought this for a console. It it a bit harder to pull out than I would really like, but it should hold it firmly in place. So it is a tradeoff. I probably wouldn't put a light or camera on it because the force to putting it back might be a bit too much. I would reccomend it.
