Works well
Looking for E39 rear backup camera and I landed on this one and I'm glad I did. This one fits and the camera quality is good. I was able to run the wire no problem.

A good low rez camera option for older BMWs
Old BMWs (pre 2012) tend to lack a head unit that includes a back up camera. Adding an aftermarket bluetooth emulator/car play device like Mr12volt really brings the old tech up to date. If using an emulator, this is a relativly straighforward install. Connect the rca yellow cable to the rca yellow input on the mr12volt, run power and trigger from mr 12 volt to the camera on a seperate power line. Connect the black wire off the camera to the chassis as a ground, then the red to the power you ran from mr12v dash to trunk. Then take the trigger line you ran with the power and tap into the brake light (in my case #4 on wire harness black and violet 2008 E93 M3) to trigger the reverse light (this is on a manual that cant use the canbus). Tuck and zip tie wires along the trunk frame to the pivot point on the convertable top and you are good to go. Picture quality is 480p but all I needed. The fit is just fine, may take some fiddling to get it to work. As others have said gluing the rubber cover keeps it on there, but may not be needed, If you do decide to glue be sure you dont get a bunch of glue dried around the edges as that may impact the fit during install.

Super Clear!
Install went easy, cable routing was the hardest part - just tearing the car apart haha. I did install a relay and noise idolator (better safe than sorry) and image is crisp and clear. The handle portion fits just like OEM and there were no real issues on QA. Enjoying seeing what behind me now!

Cable not designed to fit through channel, comes with relay
I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box and noticed the camera came with a 12v relay. It may be needed depending on your set up because BMW e90's reverse light doesn't exactly run on 12v, and that causes a lot of problem with backup camera installs. It did not come with any wiring instructions, though. Like everyone said on all these aftermarket trunk release camera: the silicone sleeve comes off the plastic handle very easily. I ended up siliconing it to the plastic handle, making it harder to come off. However, it still did not fit 100% into the OEM trunk handle hole. Part of the silicone sleeve still sticks out versus fitting snug inside the hole. May cause slight water-leak issue. The part I hate the most is that the cables are not designed for you to pass it through the rubber channel from the trunk lid into the car body. Since the channel is so tightly spaced, only the male end of the 4-pin connector will have any chance of passing through. The male end is directly connected to the trunk handle/camera itself, and it is too short to even reach the opening of the channel. Even if you try to force the other cable (which has the female end of the 4-pin connector) through the channel, there's a huge black splitter that was maybe just 6 inches from the female end, and it certainly will not go through the channel either. They only have to make the male end maybe 2 feet longer. They know to put a relay inside the package, but they decided to skimp on cable length for a perfect installation. It's rather disappointing.
