~ VOICE OF THE CENTURY~BRAVO JUDY!!!
"Life Is Just A Bowl Of Cherries" when the sound of Judy Garland's tremendous voice flows ever so smoothly and beautifully through speakers filled with emotional depth and vocal beauty unmatched to this day. Cole Porter gem "I Happen To Like New York" becomes a stunning listening experience as Judy takes one on a vocal journey beyond anything this listener has ever experienced musically and as a result this engrossing song becomes one of the truly great Cole Porter masterpieces. Released as a 45rpm, an exhuberent and rich vocal make "Comes Once In A Lifetime" memorable and the tender "If I Love Again" will make anyone who has a heart fall madly in love with this magical singer with matchless vocal beauty and tremendous sensitivity yet so wildly passionate...no other singer has ever matched this extraordinary level of artistry and sadly probably never will. "Far Away Part Of Town" is a smoldering vocal that weaves enchantment and show the quality and richness not to speak of power of Judy's once-in-a-lifetime great voice...50's upbeat remake of a 30's classic, easy to see why "Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart" put this 12 year old musical genius on the map. Rich latin rhythm from Judy's legendary 1960 London sessions make "You Go To My Head" a unique variation of a Garland classic from Carnegie Hall then a real Carnegie Hall classic performance "The Man That Got Away" is a blusey and torchy vocal masterpiece that will never be topped and show what this great singer is all about. Lady Soul herself sights "Judy At Carnegie Hall" as a personal favorite and refers to Miss Garland as the ultimate soul singer which is an assessment anyone who experienced this gifted performer in concert will agree with! A real torchy and bluesy masterpiece of an LP is "Alone" which just may be Garland's greatest studio achievement and the hauntingly beautiful "I Get The Blues When It Rains" clearly shows why...stunning vocal performance filled with so much feeling and sensitivity truly a magical vocal that will linger long after it is over! "Come Rain Or Come Shine" is a steamroller arrangement and always spellbinding Garland performance. The Great American Songbook by Garland is the best possible and "Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home" is a perfect example as nobody comes close to this raw, soulful and soaring definitive version. Splendid rare vocal find is unreleased "It Never Was You", simply sublime and exquisite gem is another fine example of the quailty of Garland's incomparable voice always gorgeous and always memorable! "Lucky Day" is another stellar vocal performance from the masterpiece lp "The Garland Touch" is Garland at her greatest as is the beautifully moving "Happiness Is Just A Thing Called Joe"...deeply moving when Judy sung this classic with so much feeling to her son Joey on her groundbreaking CBS television series show and this tender and riveting moment in television history thankfully available on DVD. Garland matured beautifully vocally by the time she filmed final motion picture classic "I Could Go On Singing" now thankfully restored on DVD and Garland never looked or sounded greater on screen..."Hello Bluebird" is a riveting tour-de-force vocal which show what this Legendary and truly gifted singer is all about...ultimate DIVA performance "By Myself" is really beyond them all as Judy plunges into emotional depths never heard or experienced in any song before or since...ultimate vocal and emotional experience is quite simply the greatest performance of them all! "April Showers" is enchanting while a previously unreleased "Why Was I Born" is mesmerizing and show that Garland could always take a standard and go so deeply inside and making them all completely her own. "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby" became a Garland standard in the mid-fifties and continued to the end of her life as her own riveting showstopper...that is the power of her brilliant interpretations that have lasted to this day! Closing this brilliant collection of legendary performances is a magical "Over The Rainbow" from Carnegie Hall that show that this incredible singing wonder had a magic that extended from the 30's throughout the great musical 60's! This wondrous collection of Garland classic performances show clearly Judy Garland is the greatest female vocalist of the century...talent shines today as a magnificent singer at the top of the heap!!! For anyone who truly enjoys great singers do not miss this priceless and truly terrific collection of masterful and very soulful performances! Booklet included has wonderful photos capturing the spirit of Judy and warm intro by daughter Lorna Luft is welcomed...Lorna is a great singer and performer whose "Song's My Mother Taught Me" is a must see Bravo performance that "Mama" would be extremely proud of! A Great Judy Garland Starting Point
"The Essential Judy Garland" is a brief introduction to Judy Garland and her distinct style. With these tracks recorded in her later performing years, her voice is the deeper, warmer toned Judy. For anyone wanting to start delving into Judy's voice, this album is perfect. I guarantee you will listen to this album, in whole, several times in a row and not even realize it. I know I did! And the greatest part of all, is that you will want it to play from the beginning over and over again.Being a young person (20 years old) of this generation, Judy Garland is a great discovery and refreshing to hear. Yes, she has always been there, but the joy and admiration I have garnered for Ms. Judy Garland grows with every song I hear her sing. She is fantastic and the world's greatest entertainer. Pick this up and start appreciating her eloquence, talent, and pure genius.

Excellent sampler of vintage Judy
This is a very good compilation of the best of Judy Garland's tracks from her MGM/Decca days. It has several overlooked gems from some of her MGM musicals that don't usually make it onto other collections (such as "Put Your Arms Around Me Honey," "I Don't Care," "Who?" and "Look For The Silver Lining") plus all the standards that will forever be associated with her. Great purchase for either the hard-core Garland aficionado or the first-timer looking for a good sample of her work.
