Robin Hood of Scotland
One of the first ever historical fiction stories. Really liked this book and it felt realistic in the details of how the highlanders lived.

A good book to read slowly
A good book to read slowly. Parts difficult to follow and absorb the story line due to the Scottish dialect. I read Rob Roy with care in order to capture the essence of all of the dialogue.

We need a MacGregor to write on our ancestor not an Englishman
It's written by a flowery Englishman. What can you expect. My ancestry is a bit distorted from what I read and what the family tree reports.

Edinburgh Press
The Edinburgh Press Edition of Walter Scott's Waverly novels is an extraordinary achievement of clear, original text as Scott wrote it with scholarly introductions. But a uniform hard back edition of Scott's novels is almost impossible, other than this edition, to find. The volumes are expensive, but are worth it to anyone who loves Scott and fine books.

Great Scottish Classic
The classics from Real Reads are always an incredibly readable and enjoyable experience and education for children to grandparents. This classic tale from Scotland features Frank who hates working in the office of his father and persuades his cousin Rashleigh to change places. But missing papers which must be found lead Frank into intrigue, mystery and danger with the famous outlaw Rob Roy,...or is he an outlaw? You will eagerly read to the end to learn which side the infamous Rob Roy is truly serving. Very good and the illustrations help everyone remember the characters and events.

A classic
Written 200 years ago this adventure tale of a young English caught up in the Jacobite rebellion of 1715.Scott tells a wonderful tale weaving in the historical Rob Roy into his hero's journey. Whilst also showing sympathy to the highland clans treatment at the hands of the crown. It is a classic historical novel.

An absolutely terrific story
I am not sure I can think of anything wrong with this book. It is written beautifully and entertainingly, it is jam packed with amazing characters, including women you would not dare mess with, and traverses the whole of Britain in times of great historical importance. Scott hardly mentions them, concentrating on the unfolding drama of the Robin Hood character from whom the book takes its name. Surprisingly, the book is more than half over before we arrive in Scotland. Something startling happens every odd chapter, and Scott's wry and sardonic commentry and subtle (and not so subtle) humour are present on just about every page. It is just great.

Not for me.
Written in the style of the time. Another person would probably enjoy it but it was my cup of tea.
