Negritude
I thought it was a little confusing, I couldn't find a way in which negritude was incorporated or represented in the novel. Does anyone have any thoughts on this topic?

Translation sometimes clunky, sometimes beautiful
The translation feels like free association at times. Other times, it opens up language in a beautiful way. Will add to the review when I finish the story.

Great book!
This was a really cute book and was about just what the title says: School Days.

Simply excellent!
This book captures the true issues that all Caribbean people live with daily. I am using it in my literature class of 16-18 year old and they have much to say about the issues highlighted. They feel very strongly about them and identify with them. It is a great work and I strongly recommend that all read it. It is a great must have for your personal library.Thank you M. Chamoiseau for such a great work.

A Thoughtful Little Memoir
This is a thoughtful memoir that highlights an interesting world many readers will be unfamiliar with. A quick, easy introduction into the Caribbean and what it means to be human during a period of colonialism.

Read this book!!
School Days is one of the most charming, delightful books that I have ever read. It is filled with bold imagination, clever and expressive language, and a beautiful artistic vision. The excitement and love that this book inspired in me was so strong that it took several days after I had finished reading the book before my emotions dissipated.
