Chuao's Chocolates are local to me and I've been a patron for decades. I've taken their chocolate making classes (no longer offered) and love the quality of their chocolates. I'm so disappointed that I can no longer purchase their chocolate discs for baking/making my own chocolates, so I have to be happy that they still sell this cocoa mix. It is just the right blend between sweet and spicy (not too sweet and not too spicy!) and if you make it with milk, it is creamy and delicious. I'm just afraid that if it becomes too popular, they'll run out and there won't be more for me!

I have tried a few other european style brands and this one is the closest to hot chocolate I had in France many years ago. Literally drinking good quality melted chocolate in a cup! I love the taste of european style hot chocolate. Rich deep dark chocolate full body flavor, and silky texture. Chuao Dark Drinking Chocolate is delicious! I prefer whole milk instead of water and make a denser consistency with a dollop of unsweetened whip cream to finish it off. If you prefer a deep dark chocolate flavor in your drinking chocolate, this is the one for you.

Best drinking chocolate I've ever tried. As other's have mentioned, this is highly addictive. Fantastic rich flavor with a little spice and lasting finish. I use one spoonful in my daily home made espresso. There is no substitute. I also highly recommend this for small owner operated coffee/espresso businesses. Once your customers try it in their coffee there is no turning back. By the way, yes it makes good hot chocolate, but I find it's even better added to a coffee drink like a cappuccino (works best with hot drinks since the powder doesn't mix easily with cold liquids and the spicy kick doesn't get released well unless hot). Don't add too much, just one tablespoon to a regular cappuccino to provide that extra gourmet touch, or +2 tablespoons if you rally want to make a mocha.

Gritty and too sweet for my preference

Never have I had a add hot water version of hot chocolate that tasted more like mom heating the milk on the stove and adding real chocolate. This stuff is da bomb diggity. If you drink a lot, I recommend getting this bag over the cans. Even though this bag is almost double the price of a pair of cans ($84 as opposed to $45 at this typing), you get almost 3x as much chocolate (each tin is 12 oz). Great on a cool night to enjoy curled up on the couch with a good book.

Not too spicy. Not too dark. I recommend a small portion (2-4 oz cup) with less water. I use a slightly oversized espresso cup and 2 scoops(approx. 2 parts chocolate, 3 parts water). Excellent company as well as product. About 15% cheaper on their site.

Wow. This stuff is strong. Nuff said right? If you like thick, gloppy, and rich hot chocolate, espresso style, then this is the product for you. Unfortunately for me I was a little confused about how much to make, and then stubbornly refused to save some for later. Now I think I will wait a few months before trying a smaller portion.
