Lifetime Appliance 882699 Drive Gear Kit Compatible with Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Kenmore, Sears, Jenn-Air Trash Compactor

Installed new gears, it cycled the garbage compactor three times then during the next compact cycle it started making a horrible noise. Disassembled again to see the gears just don’t mesh well and as soon as it comes under a load the gears slip past each other. In the video while the gears are moving you can hear the ‘tick, tick, tick’ as the big gear now has a flat-spot after it first slipped when we heard the horrible noise. I replaced this set with a new Original Equipment kit and compactor runs perfect again. Had no problem returning the kit thru Amazon and received a full refund, that’s why I have given it two stars and not just one.

The large drive gear has a smaller diameter than the OEM gear which will cause the teeth to not fully mesh (as evidenced by the video uploaded by Larry Snow). I found that there is enough play in the motor mount holes to slightly adjust the motor such that the gears will fully mesh. If you don’t perform this adjustment, the gears will surely strip. I can only hope that the gears last as long as the OEM gears (~10 years). I’ll try to update this review if the gears fail prematurely.

Unfortunately purchased in March but was sick and could not repair until October. After installation, gears just spun and did not engage. Took compactor apart again and compared large gears....the new part was a fraction of an inch smaller and did not fully engage smaller gear all the time....urgh. Wasted time and money. Although out side of normal return, hoping for a refund but not sure seller still on Amazon.

-Working great for a week now, family of four used about a dozen times a day.-I only changed the two drive gears, large one broke in two on 6y/o Maytag.-Saved me at least $200 bucks.-Took me about 4 hours from removing from counter to reinstall and functioning,and I have never done one before.

Ordered this drive gear kit to replace the drive gear that broke in half on a Kitchen Aid trash compactor that was less than 5 years old. The new drive gear lasted less than 6 months. All of a sudden when compacting the trash the machine was very loud, sounded like a high pitch grinding noise. Come to find one the teeth on the new drive gear are almost all stripped off and the compactor no longer works. I guess that is what happens when manufacturers use cheap crap for parts and distributors replacements parts do the same. Disappointing. Zero stars.

More junk. I installed the parts and made all adjustments including loosening the motor nuts and making sure the gears were meshed properly with no play. Ran it for about 5 cycles and the gear stripped. Guess I will go elsewhere and buy quality parts . This is the second thing that I have bought recently with very poor quality. Seriously considering not shopping with Amazon anymore!!!

Junk from China. The large gear wobbles badly and only kind of meshes with the small gear (and no the shaft is not bent - I checked). The first time I ran it the gears slipped and jumped 3 teeth at the bottom of the compact cycle. immediate damage to the gears. The small gear is about a millimeter and a half smaller in diameter than the original so put back the old original gear and it works better but the gear damage is done so I expect I'll be replacing this again soon. I would gladly pay twice the price for gears made properly to specs from the USA. There were other options offered but this was the Amazon recommended one .
