A No-Brainer: Unbeatable Price and Solid Performance
OK, it's a no-brainer decision to get this unit. When our 11-year-old Kenmore (model #:106.56826600) ice maker died I decided a DIY approach made the most sense given the cost of a service call vs a straight out replacement. Like other reviewers I first went to Google/YouTube and got smart on how the system works. I developed a "Probable Cause" checklist and initially considered a frozen water line the culprit. First, I removed the old ice maker to access the water line....Steps: Remove the ice maker door, tape shut the left hand ice level sensor door, and push in the two catches under the ice maker...it will slide right out (don't forget to disconnect the wires). Wow, the water tube coming from the top of the fridge was frozen solid so I used a small funnel and hairdryer set on low to melt the blockage. I reinstalled the unit only to find it still didn't work so I moved to step two and used the "jumper wire" procedure to manually advance the timer wheel...it failed both tests. I then realized the frozen water line wasn't the problem, but was due to water backing up since the old unit had totally failed. There was an additional YouTube video that discussed replacing the ice maker's small motor and doing some soldering that I decided was not worth my time so I ordered the Supco unit. It arrived as expected, the instructions are excellent and written for a DIYer vs appliance tech. Another reviewer called the unit "cheaply made"...I disagree, I thought it's construction was more than adequate for the task, after all it's an ice maker not a Pace Maker. The unit went in easier than taking out the old one. Don't forget to position the water line inside the small fill cup...long-handled needle nose pliers work well here. Be sure to save all the old unit pieces and hardware as you'll need them in the new unit. As a final step and maybe unneeded I cycled the power to the entire fridge, via circuit breaker with the ice maker switched off. My thought was to clear any remaining fault codes, much like rebooting a computer after installing updates. The ice maker dumped out it's first load of cubes a little over two hours later. I discarded the first three batches and installed a new fridge filter (it was nearly due anyway). Over night the ice tray filled and the ice level optical system worked perfectly shutting off the ice maker when the hopper filled. Finally, the Supco ice maker produces more and better quality cubes than the old one ever did. So, for $45 and an hour of your time this is a no-brainer fix.

A good replacement with one notable difference
The icemaker is nearly identical to my original one with one exception; the water cup intake area is much larger/higher. This is only an issue when installing the part as I had trouble getting the water inlet hose to want to go into the cup. After a little finessing and a few curse words, it was in. I did not need to modify the unit to make it work but I could see someone taking a dremmel tool to the cup to make it easier. All in all, the part was reasonably priced and works like a charm so far.

THE ICE IS NICE!
Used this to replace the icemaker in my Kenmore Coldspot 106.53259202. Replacing this as a unit is not difficult. You may have more difficulty in determining if this is the problem or if it's the ice level control board assembly. In most cases, it could be one of the two or both. Oh yea, don't forget the water supply, bad valve or ice in outlet spout. Do your research (Internet/Utube) and double check your conclusion. There is an easy "jumper wire" test for the ice maker that will show you if it's good/bad. My refrigerator was manufactured in 2002, so I didn't want to invest a lot of money in it. Prices on some sites are easily double the cost of the Supco. You can't even find this as an assembly on Sears Parts. I took the part number off the original unit (2212352) to find a number as an assembly that I could work with (WPW10190961) to find a replacement. The unit works great as a replacement for the original. The only minor difference is the larger water cup that the fill hose extends in to. However, with a little finesse / maneuvering and a coat hanger to flex / bend the hose over the cup it installs fairly easy. Only took a couple hours to get cold enough to start spittin' out ice but instructions allow for more time. The ice is nice!

Great value and working very well
My original ice maker in my 10 yr old fridge (Maytag MSD2254VEY00) was losing the lining in the ice making tray, specs of the lining were showing up in my ice. I purchased the Supco 5 cube ice maker kit because it was about half the cost of the others I found. The quality of the ice maker is on par with the original OEM ice maker. Replacement was easy and I had my first batch of ice in fairly short order. The ice maker has been cranking out ice since then. The only thing I would note is that the sled that the ice maker attaches to in order to slide onto the freezer "shelf" was not included. Not a big deal, I couldn't tell from the product pictures if it was and I'm guessing the sled probably varies by product lines. I simply had to unscrew the sled from the original ice maker and onto the new one.I'm very happy with how things turned out, the quality of the product, how it works, and I saved a ton of money by doing it myself!

Great price for a great replacement!
EXCELLENT value replacement for the OEM version! I removed the old unit and installed this one in less than 30 minutes and it has worked perfectly ever since. I worked long and hard to try to fix the old one by tearing it apart and cleaning contacts, etc...but after several failed attempts, I swallowed my pride and purchased this unit thinking it might be cheaply made. This was as good, or better, than what it replaced. There was only one minor issue where the water chute was a little bit higher than the original, so it made the installation a little bit tricky, but nothing that can't be handled. Overall, for the price...I'll buy another one if this one ever fails! I've had it for 2 months and it makes ice like a pro!

Save your money and do it yourself!
Wow, if I new it was this easy to replace, I would have replaced this 3 years ago!!! I lost the use of my fridge's (Kenmore) ice maker during a power outage 3 years ago. I lived with it for a long time, but then I saw how cheap it was to buy a new one (instead of getting a maintenance guy to come in, diagnose and replace it for $300+), I decided to take the chance. And now I have ice. One thing, definitely clean the ice maker's tray with soap and water before using it. It was kind of dirty when I got it. But it's been working for a year now and no problems at all!
