Buy physical media
The five star mostly comes from the series being complete and me finding it for a good price. There are some drawbacks: notably, there’s no subtitle option. The loss of this is felt. Also, only a few episodes to a disc. It’s weird, but I don’t remember navigating DVDs feeling so archaic. Nostalgic, yes. Convenient, not so much. But since The Tudors is no longer available for free on prime (ugh), and I’m planning a D&D campaign set in Tudor England that requires me to reference this show frequently, I was happy to pick this up for the price I found. Buy physical media, people. It’s a little annoying, but you’ll be glad you did later.

If you enjoy Tudor history it's a must.
Admittedly I am not much of a TV watcher; I care far more about my documentaries and books. I was aware of the series when it was airing on cable, but being a bit of an Anglophile and not having cable I never pursued this further and eventually forgot all about it. My boss began watching this a couple of weeks ago and he highly recommended it as being mostly accurate so I came here and read some of the other reviews.I have to say that it's a very well done docu-drama. The first time I watched it I did just that; sat and watched it. The second go-round I sat with smart phone in hand and turned it into a research opportunity. Did that actually take place? Was Catherine Howard truly a giggling nitwit?" (According to her contemporaries, yes.) What did Chapuys look like in real life?I have to admit that when I first started watching it I had a little difficulty with the fact that Henry VIII was portrayed as a brunette when we all know better, however Jonathan Rhys Meyers does such an outstanding job of capturing what I believe to be His Majesty's personality that it didn't take long for me to ignore the lack of red hair. There is so much detail that you have to watch it at least twice because you're going to miss several things the first go round.I was highly disappointed in the special features dvd. The production was so outstanding that I expected much more history regarding the costuming, locations, etc. Instead most of the special features involve previews of other Showtime productions. There are also advertisements at the beginning of every disc; in season 4 you cannot fast forward through them, but muting them works just as well. All in all I highly recommend The Tudors. It was well worth the money and is something that I will definitely watch more than once or twice.

Decent show, sorry I missed it.
I just got The Tudors Complete Series Box set through amazon. I missed the series when it was on Showtime, I wish I had been introduced to it sooner. The Packaging: The jewel case the dvds come in is in booklet form with indiviual pages and pictures. The artwork is very beautiful. Discs go into indiviual slots in the pages. Downside is that I'm sure the booklet will not hold up well and with repeated viewing the disc's are likely to become scratched/scuffed taking them in and out of their slots. The DVDs: I've read alot of reviews bringing up a manufacturing malfunction causing the disc's to skip or not play at all. I only has two problems. The season 2 finale and series finale, these episodes skipped towards the end of the episode. However, both played perfect in my laptop, so I'm fine with that. The set also includes a bonus disc with a lot of extras. The Show: Michael Hirst is amazing. The show follows King Henry 8th and the begining of the end of the Tudor dynasty. The Tudors produced two of England's most famous monarchs. The show is fairly accurate, it's important to remember this is a historical drama. As for the complants I've read about the sex/nudity, it really isn't overbearing, there's a reason this show was on a premieum network. The show has a great cast who all performed very strongly. My complaints would be: (1)Some of the backdrops (castles and landscapes) looked incredably fake, the series was film in Ireland...there should have been no need for any cheesey CGI when you have real backdrop that beautiful. (2)The show can be a bit slow at times, I found myself falling asleep or wanting to skip forward.

Wonderful- It will make you want to know the rest of the story..
Henry VIII has been portrayed throughout history as an overweight, ungraceful man, and a tyrannical king. A fat, sloppy man throwing chicken bones over his shoulder is the image many have of Henry VIII. I believe much like The Aviator did to tell the story of the young, handsome & brilliant Howard Hughes, The Tudors reminds us of the other side of Henry VIII. I agree that creator Michael Hirst took some poetic license, as the appearance of the older Henry, but this only inspires the viewer to learn more. The series is excellent, and it seems the decision was made to bring out the elements of this story that continues to fascinate. Over the four seasons of The Tudors, Henry is the center of the story, and is played wonderfully by Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. But just as in history, he is surrounded by equally compelling, and ultimately, more heroic characters. The Tudors looks beautiful, and is wonderfully entertaining. Because of some of the historical inaccuracies, I don't believe it gets enough credit for what the series does get right. There are several moments in The Tudors that stays with you, and many of these moments come directly from the history books, or capture the emotion of the event. For example:Henry's scream of pain when Thomas More dies...Anne looking up at the birds in the sky as the French swordsman distracts her...Catherine Howard's lonely ballet in Tower as her lovers are tortured and killed...Jane laying in the church as Henry cries over her body (the music by Trevor Norris is haunting-all 4 cds are wonderful)When "Anne" tells Henry near his death "Catherine lies beside me..."Anne of Cleves asking "If I don't please the King, will he kill me?"Henry looking up at the now famous painting, and whispering "Well done.."I would agree.."Well done"

THE Tudors - The complete Series (Season 1-4)
The complete Series "The Tudors" was a great enjoyment. It was all I ever expected and then some. I now watching again with my grandchildren, and I hope that they will as much find in a time of history that I enjoyed and loved so much. It seems you are "living that time" with all the goodand bad and with enormous learning of a time long gone. I highly commend seeing it all - it is wonderful.

THE TUDORS - THE COMPLETE SERIES :-AN ATTRACTIVELY ENGAGING PLOT
THIS DRAMA IS ABOUT KING HENRY VIII (28TH JUNE 1491-28TH JANUARY 1547), HIS WIVES, AND HIS RELIGIOUS AND POLITICAL AMBITIONS DURING HIS REIGN IN ENGLAND.AS WRITER AND DIRECTOR MICHAEL HIRST PUT IT, " I WANT MY AUDIENCE TO ASSOCIATE KING HENRY VIII WITH FLESH AND BLOOD". YES HE HAD BEEN CRITICISED FOR BEING HISTORICALLY INACCURATE, BUT I BELIEVE THAT HE WAS TRYING TO FILL UP THE GAPS WHICH MIGHT HAD BEEN LEFT UNTOLD, FOR EXAMPLE KING HENRY VIII'S FINAL YEARS OF REGRET AND EMOTIONS BEFORE HIS EVENTUAL DEATH. CERTAINLY KING HENRY VIII, LIKE ANY OTHER ORDINARY HUMAN BEING, WOULD ALSO HAVE FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS DURING HIS REIGN AS KING, ALTHOUGH SUCH THINGS WILL NEVER BE DEPICTED IN HISTORY TEXTBOOKS.JONATHAN RHY MEYERS WAS SUPERBLY ENGAGING IN HIS PORTRAYAL OF HENRY VIII ALTHOUGH THE CHARACTER, TRUE TO ITS ACCURACY, COULD BE SLIGHTLY EMBELLISHED. BUT THAT DOES NOT DETRACT VERY MUCH FROM ITS TRUE AND RUTHLESS NATURE OF HENRY VIII. INDEED IT IS HENRY VIII MINUS HIS WHISKERS AND BEARD:- A REFRESHINGLY ORIGINAL HENRY VIII LOOKING MORE ALTHETIC AND SEXY AS EVER.NATALIE DORMER IS IRRESISTIBLE AS EVER AS THE SULTRY AND SEXY ANNE BOLEYN, DEPICTING THE LUSTFUL COQUETTISH LOVE INTEREST FOR HENRY VIII WITH ACCURACY.OF COURSE, ALL EPISODES ARE SUPERBLY ENGAGING TO WATCH WITH WELL SELECTED CASTS FOR EACH AND EVERY ROLE.SAM NEIL AS THE CARDINAL OF ENGLAND IS AS DEVIOUS AS EVER BUT FEARFUL AS WELL FOR THE KING AS HE TRIES TO SECURE AN IMPENDING DIVORCE FROM ROME FOR HENRY VIII. WHILE JEREMY NORTHAM AS THOMAS COMES CLOSE TO ADVISING THE KING PRIVATELY ON HIS POLITICAL MATTERS IN SOME RESPECT, LATER ON HE SEEMS TO HAVE HIS PRIVATE AGENDA. EVENTUALLY HE SUFFERED FROM HIS OWN DOWNFALL FOR PLOTTING AGAINST THE KING.THERE ARE NUMEROUS SEX SCENES THAT ARE ALMOST GRAPHICALLY DEPICTED WHICH ARE VERY INTERESTING TO WATCH.PRODUCED BY SONY PICTURES, THE PICTURE IS DIGITALLY WELL MASTERED, ITS QUALITY IS EXCELLENT, OF HIGH RESOLUTION, WITH DEEP COLOUR SATURATION TO SATISFY ONE'S VIEWING SENSES. THE SKIN TONES ARE ACCURATELY DEPICTED AS ARE THE BEAUTIFUL COLOUR TONES OF THE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES OF ENGLAND. I VIEW THE SERIES WITH SONY BDP S 590 AND S 4100 BLU RAY PLAYERS, AND BOTH PLAYERS RUN THE SERIES SMOOTHLY WHEN VIEWED ON THE SONY KV 32 INCH EX710. EVEN THE PANASONIC BLU RAY PLAYER BD75 IS NOT TO BE LEFT BEHIND AND DISMISSED AS IT GIVES EXCELLENT COLOUR DEFINITION AND CONTRAST. THE BLU RAY PLAYER BD 75 IS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DEEP BLACKS AND SOME UNIQUE TEXTURE WHEN VIEWED ON THIS SONY KV LED TV.THE SERIES, WHICH COMES WITH ATTRACTIVE SPECIAL FEATURES ON THE MAKING OF THE FILM, IS VERY MUCH HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF KING HENRY VIII.JONATHAN RHY MEYERS IS INDEED THE FINEST IF NOT THE COMPLETE DEFINITIVE ♔ KING HENRY VIII IN HIS POTRAYAL OF THE KING HIMSELF.TOP MARKS FOR THE DIRECTOR MICHAEL HIRST FOR BRINGING KING HENRY VIII TO LIFE!!! THERE IS NEVER ONE MOMENT OF BOREDOM IN WATCHING THIS ENGAGING SERIES. 5 STARS!!! A SERIES WORTH BUYING IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF KING HENRY VIII.
