Deflecto Plastic Round Diffuser, 6", White (TFG6)

I just purchased as second one of these, as the design works very well. In one package, you get the complete damper and diffuser assembly, and at a lower price than the typical separate diffuser grill and butterfly damper components. The unit is made from white plastic. In my house, there are a couple of round duct runs that end in unfinished portions of rooms in the basement. The prior owner of this house had plugged the vents by stuffing an old towel in the pipe, as there are no baffles to adjust on these runs, but I wanted something more adjustable and permanent. No one else makes a good diffuser for that type of end termination, as they all are designed to be screwed into a flat surface. While this is designed to clamp to a piece of suspended ceiling tile, it works equally well if you screw through the duct pipe and the side of this diffuser, although you will have to provide the screws. The metal butterfly damper required for normal diffusers is not conducive to side mounting. The outside diameter of the finished end is slightly under 8", which is much smaller than that of a metal diffuser grill for a 6" round duct, which is typically around 10". What isn't well explained about this unit is that the center of this is mounted on a threaded stud, and can be simply spun up or down, depending on how much air you want to flow. If desired, you can fully shut off the airflow. The airflow rate can be easily seen by looking at the end position, rather than having to look up inside at a butterfly setting. The overall installed height will vary as the center is screwed up or down, so it might not be the best if you need it to stay really tight to the ceiling. An additional benefit is that you don't need a plastic "key" to turn it, as the key frequently seems to disappear when you want to adjust one. I guess the one drawback to this design is that you can't easily make a longer key to adjust a damper mounted in a high ceiling. This is not a concern for my installations, so I haven't given it much thought. I have not noticed any "drift" in the adjustment due to airflow or common household vibrations, and one of them has been installed for more than a year now.

Fit perfectly into the 6” metal chimney ducting from an old wood stove that we removed. The installation was easy, drilled the frame right into the metal apron and then the diffuser pops into place. Really nice design actually. Decent and sturdy quality. Did the job right with no issues.

I was able to easily install this into my duct coming through a drop-down style false ceiling. It's remained for some time, and the airflow seems much improved over the previous diffuser. I'll be buying more to finish replacing the diffusers in the basement.

When we moved into this place a few years ago there were two of these that were in bad shape; cracked and not staying in place. A couple of times they even fell out of the ceiling tile. These new ones look good and stay in place. Quite an improvement and I felt they were reasonably priced.

Worked great to install an exhaust vent in my garage. The tension ring on the back allowed me to install it without having to screw it in to the sheetrock, saving time and effort vs installing anchors or framing above it.

Absolutely perfect for drop ceiling installations, nice and light with easy to install ring to keep it in place. Fully adjustable air flow is nice.

This exceeded my expectations. Had the old metal diffusers that were 40 years old and very much showing their age. Replaced them in no time.

I needed to replace a rusty diffuser my bathroom, and this is the only plastic round one I could find. For installation is has 3 leaf type springs. I just slid it into the existing duct. We'll see how well it stays; it's only been up for a few hours. The plastic pipe your supposed to use has screw holes, but no screws included.
