Brass Sport Fountain Pen

Design: The form factor is pretty brilliant. It closes up small enough to fit anywhere and the cap screws securely into place. It was actually smaller than I expected, even when posted, but not so small that it was in any way uncomfortable. I had no problems writing with it even with my larger hands. I find the octagonal design to be incredibly attractive. It's very distinctive and combined with the brass gives it a very 19th century feel. Construction: I can't compliment the brass enough. The raw finish means that the thing will age and patina beautifully. It may scratch a little easily, but that only adds character. The brass also adds a very satisfying heft, giving even this relatively small pen a premium feel. Still, it wasn't as heavy as I worried it might be. While it feels solid in the hand, it isn't so weighty that you'd notice it in your pocket. Writing: The F steel nib feeds beautifully. Mine is a slightly wet feed and goes through ink a little faster than I might have expected, but that's not something I'm worried about. It will easily write under its own weight and writes smooth as glass across the page. Packaging: I adore the little tin the pen comes in. Its about the weight/consistency of an altoids tin, or maybe a bit thicker. The graphics on the lid are all nicely raised into the material, and inside is a kind of felt-like plastic that reminds me of the packaging you get on some cheaper jewelry. The whole thing is a really nice touch on an excellent pen. Curiously, the inside would hold two Kaweco Sport pens and a pair of extra international short cartridges, subtly suggesting that you should buy another pen. Crafty scoundrels. Summary: A great pen, especially if you're just getting started in fountain pens and want to invest in your first "premium" pen. THAT SAID, I got mine for $60. The normal retail is closer to $100. At the $60 price point, this is a really, really good value. At the $100 price point, it's still a rock solid pen, but you may have better options.

I love the feel of the Kaweco brass fountain pen in my hand, when posted. I have a medium for some years now and wanted to try the BB. This new BB is also a great sized nib for me. I use fountain pens mostly for drawing and mixed media paintings. The BB size gives a lot of ink, not too much, not too little, for what I need it to do in drawing/painting. This will show more of the variations an ink color has to offer, which is beautiful to me. One interesting thing (which I do not recommend) is that my medium fountain pen was forgotten for a while, and left with ink in it for months. When I came across it, I thought it was going to be a rescue mission. To my surprise, it wrote from the first touch to the paper. That was a nice surprise! It’s great quality and will likely outlive me. Most importantly for me, though, is that I really enjoy using it. I have other Kaweco products, such as the Sketchup 5.6 mechanical lead holder and the 2 mm lead holder. They are all prized among my favorite art supplies. I love the weight of the brass. My hand does not tense up as it does with some lighter weight plastic fountain pens that I have. I like well made goods and Kaweco certainly makes well made and durable tools.

I started collecting fountain pens during the pandemic and have acquired all sorts of low, medium and high end fountain pens from your basic TWISBI to Montblanc. As an EDC pen, I’ve used Parker Sonnets and Lamy Al Stars. I lean toward medium nibs, but ordered this in the Fine nib hoping the extra weight of the brass would add a little pressure and also knowing that German and French pens run a bit juicier than Japanese (I have several Pilots and find the fine nibs to be pretty scratchy). This writes like a dream. I can use it on almost any paper, from Moleskine 80gsm to fancy Tomoh River paper or simple 100gsm Paperage journals. No ghosting. No feathering. And it looks so classy in the brass. I have probably a dozen other Kaweco Sports and none of them disappoint, but this one is by far the best and cannot believe I waited this long to buy one. I added a clip (stainless steel) that I nicked from one of my other Kaweco Sports to match the nib. It does not come with a clip or a converter, but mine did come with a blue ink cartridge. This will get tons of use from journaling to product sketches and will be my new EDC. If you want a wonderful writing fountain pen, under $100 this is a class act and I cannot recommend it highly enough other than to say this might just be my grail pen. Shipping was fast, item was well packaged and I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

This is a fantastic fountain pen. I purchased it with a fine nib, and it is an incredibly smooth writer. The nib glides smoothly across the page, whatever ink I throw at it (Diamine, J. Herbin and Kaweco in many colors so far). I write mostly in a Midori MD notebook, but it works great with Rhodia, Stalogy and Tsubame notebooks I have, and even on copier paper. It is my go-to, every-day-carry pen. I had great experience with Kaweco Sport Classics (plastic) and wanted to see what a bit more heft would bring to the writing experience. I find this pen to be very nicely balanced despite the extra weight (writing with the cap posted, of course). The brass takes on a great patina that continues to evolve through use. I added a bronze clip, which I think is a nice contrast, especially as the brass has aged. I feel that Kaweco doesn't get as much love as it deserves. I own several more expensive pens (Parker, Mont Blanc, Graf von Faber Castel, etc.), and I enjoy my Kawecos the most. Great company, and they really excelled with this Brass Sport!

This has to be my favorite fountain pen in my collection, not just for its distinctive design and handsome patina it has quickly acquired, but for the writing experience. I like the weightiness of the Kaweco Sport, and the size is perfect for my small handwriting. The nib is truly extra fine, which I personally prefer. The nib is easily customizable. For aesthetic reasons, I swapped out the stainless steel nib with a gold one for a personalized uniform “brassy” appearance. The ink flow is consistent when high quality ink is used. I stayed away from using the stock Kaweco ink, which can be quite thick and prone to clogging, in my experience. I instead went with Montblanc cartridges, non-permanent, as well as Noodler’s Heart is Darkness. I have been so impressed with this pen that I purchased replacement nibs of different widths. This pen has proven easy to customize with these replacements. I've never had issues with false starts or skipping after I found the pen's "sweet spot", but must find the correct ink, especially with the extra fine nib. The thickness of the barrel makes long writing sessions comfortable, even with my lateral tripod pen grip. The octagonal cap is useful for preventing the pen from rolling away on my desktop. I do not have any issues with the plastic inner ring that prevents the cap from slipping away, nor have I had any issues with the cap sliding off while posted. I chose the raw brass both for its appearance and its anti-microbial properties as a copper alloy. While using a copper alloy pen is no substitute for correct hand washing, with the ongoing pandemic the antimicrobial properties of the raw, unlacquered brass on this Kaweco Sport is an added plus.

The pen is a five star. I immediately loved the feel and quality. It's an amazing writing tool and writes beautifully. It is already developing a luscious petina. The only con was the presentation tin box was dented, luckily I don't intend to give the pen away, even tough I'd consider this pen an heirloom object. I've ordered another sport for my pocket everyday journal. Future buyers need to be aware this pen is heavy and substantial in the hand. However, let the weight rest in your hand and grip it lightly. I found you don't have to maintain a death grip on the pen to get a beautiful line. Relax and let the pen's weight work for you. It takes about three written pages to really get the feel for this pen. I have no regrets with this purchase. It is pricey for a pen but it feels like a buy once and cry once lifetime purchase.

Feels good in my hand, and has a good heft to it, though I don’t know if I could do a marathon writing session with it, but that’s fine by me. The ink flows very well, you might call it a “wet” pen 🖊️, and the patina from use is already starting to show.

At the time of purchase, the Kaweco Brass Sport fountain pen cost half as much on Amazon than other respected stationary stores. That isn't why I purchased it through Amazon. It is why I almost didn't. When it comes to fountain pens, I would rather pay full price for quality control. This, and some of the Amazon reviews made me a bit nervous. In the end, I decided to risk it because I am horribly impatient, and Amazon promised to deliver it super fast. I was completely prepared to return it if it did not write properly. However, my pen wrote beautifully right out of the box. The extra fine nib writes incredibly smooth. It's not the least bit scratchy. Compared to my other Kaweco fountain pens, this one is a bit weighty, but I enjoy the additional weight. It feels balanced when capped. Unlike some of the other reviewers, my pen caps without issue. And my pen did come with Kaweco gift tin. I also purchased the Kaweco Mini Fountain Pen Converter from the same seller. I currently have it inked with Private Reserve Ebany Brown, which I mainly use on Tomoe River paper of my Hobonichi planner. It writes well on Rhodia paper as well. This is a lovely little writer. Definitely worth the price, imo. I am very happy with this purchase.

One look at this pen and I just had to have it. I paired it with a bronze clip and after it has tarnished, it just looks gorgeous. The subtle contrast of color between the brass and bronze is amazing and I love it. It writes smooth, its definitely heavy as far as pens go but its nicely balanced when you post the cap. Its small size means you can easily take it with you wherever. It came with the tin which includes a cartridge of blue ink which is nice. I also bought the mini piston converter since I have bottled ink but its nice they include a cartridge. The obvious downside is the cost, but I can say that it's been worth the money. I've read some comments about the threads on the body digging into their fingers when they hold the pen - I can say personally that the threads are not very sharp or deep and don't bother me whatsoever. You can definitely feel they are there, but they don't interfere at all with my writing so it's not an issue for me. Overall its a very nice looking pen that feels great to use and hasn't disappointed me.

Nice pen with very smooth writing. I collect many pens and this has already one of my favourites. I have taken the silver model also in broad nib. For writing in diaries fine nib is good, for signatures & casual drawing & writing, broad one is a blessing kind of thing. Thanks for making such a beautiful thing. Purchased broad nib from stationery physically, as it was not available online. That one is also awesome. Brilliant product.

Metall-Füllfederhalter wie die von z.B. Kaweco werden keine Probleme haben, die Lebenserwartung ihrer Besitzer zu übertreffen - ganz unabhängig des Alters der Besitzer. Typisch für Kaweco ist leider das Federroulette. Mit Glück erhält man eine ganz vorzügliche Feder (wie ich in diesem Fall) oder aber eine eher trockenschreibende mit mickrigem Tintenfluss. Wie gesagt, dies ist typisch für Kaweco. Auch typisch für Kaweco ist der gute Kundenservice... bei Bedarf mal nachfragen. Ansonsten sind die Federn vergleichsweise günstig (und es passen auch alle Bock 060 Federn - falls einem die Prägung auf der Feder egal ist und man Zugriff auf ein erweitertes Sortiment haben möchte). Bei diesem Füller gilt das recht hohe Gewicht (bei entsprechender Kürze) zu berücksichtigen. Für sehr große oder schwache Hände mag das nicht der richtige Füller sein.
