GameMastery Flip-Mat: Urban Tavern

This has a large tavern with a stage on one side. To give you an idea of Its size it has 14 large 8 seat circular tables, a bar with with 12 stools (though only 6 normal sized minis would belly up to it), and a large 5x5 square stage in the middle. There are also big kitchen and a storage rooms. It would take 70+ Minis to make this place look busy. This side of the flip-mat is great if you need a large tavern with a lot of tables, a bar, and a stage: 5 of 5 stars.On the flip side you have two smaller taverns. The first is an rectangular outdoor area. The map is fairly small, only the top third of one side. There is a circular bar in the middle with four small stand up tables on each end of the rectangle. The table could easily have 4 figures standing at them and the bar could have about 8 figures bellied up to it. It would take about about 27 figures to make this place look busy. I think this is the weakest of the taverns on the flip map and the least likely to be used. Its not what most would visualize when someone says "fantasy urban tavern." It is original though, and once you own it I could see it being used as a setting in a city park at night. I'm torn on how to rate it - for art, say 5 of 5 stars, for usefulness say 3 of 5 stars. In the end I look at this as a bonus map that doesn't really fit in with the other taverns.The second taven on this side of the flip-mat has both and indoors and outdoors area. There is a cobblestoned courtyard with 10 round 4 or 5 seat tables. Inside there are 4 rectangle 10 seat tables (4 on a side, 2 at the ends). There is a bar where 11 minis could belly-up to. There is some sort of sunken game area with a narrow table with seats looking it. This tavern also has a kitchen and storage areas which include a few beds for the staff. This tavern takes up the lower 2/3rds of the map side. To look busy you would need about 25 figures outside and about the same inside. If you don't need a stage, this tavern is the one most likely to be used on the flip-map and is the most stereotypical "fantasy urban tavern" - and I mean it in a good way; since your players would immediately recognize it as that without you saying anything. That's high praise for a map because the art sets the mood and expectations correctly for your players without breaking immersion. This map is a bit more down scale than the big map on the opposite side. I'll give this map 5 of 5 stars as well.This is good solid flip-mat with two high quality taverns and one out door tavern map you might have to reach to find a use for. This flip map is worth getting for the two high quality taverns alone. Overall, I'd consider this a four and 1/2 star map which I'll round up to five for Amazon's rating system.

This layout is definaitely NOT how I always pictured an inn/tavern to be in fantasy! This tavern is laid out just plain WEIRDLY, as I recall, all on a single level. It would have been much better to put the rooms for guests on the second level, overlooking the common room, with a stairs between the two levels. These guest rooms are too close to the kitchen! Also, I don't recall a stable on the map for the characters' horses, nor is there a water pump, or anything else in a logical place.The map itself, however, appears to be durable and should last for a long time.

To assist the potential buyer, please include images of each of both sides of the flip-mat on your product's web page. A time-saver for someone who doesn't want to draw out a complex tavern. Several tavern locations are available in other map packs and flip-mats. This one is pretty extensive for a small village or hamlet. This one is appropriate for a larger town or city.

I gave this flip mat to my son-in-law as a gift. He plans to use it for original games with his young son. It was on fairly heavy card stock, so should last. He liked it.
