You're looking for a BLE book for engineers
You found it.The O'Reilly book was a solid intro to 4.0, generally with a focus on software usage. The Afaneh book gave some insights on what's new in 5.0, and the Gaitatzis "book" was... crap (sorry, but at least I didn't return it!). This book does a solid job of explaining how BLE works at every level, where it differs from BT classic, and the underlying workings and architecture to get you off and googling the tangential details to your hearts content. The author is well organized, detailed, and ensures that there are just enough hints for you to go off and dig when he approaches territory that is out of scope. I wish he wrote more of the introductory books I've read. The main place for improvement is updating to support the superset of 5.0 features and spec extensions. See Afaneh's "Intro" book for a high level overview (or the spec, of course).Very happy, worth the money, buy this one!

Thorough and informative
I read this mostly over a couple plane trips and while ordinarily I would fall asleep with this kind of material, a plane ride offers an environment where one can ingest this kind of material without the urge to find something else to do. What I found was a book that was very well written, by an author who REALLY knows the nitty-gritty details of the standard and the reasoning behind many of its quirks. I feel like I have a decent foundation for understanding BLE internals and while I am still new to BLE, this book laid down the language and structure I need to visualize what's going on under the hood.

Don't buy this book unless you have full knowledge of bluetooth
I like this book because it is written for developers who would like to take bluetooth tech and capitalize from it. One thing I don't like is this book maybe difficult to understand if your are new to bluetooth tech and have no background in computer engineering.----------------------------Dislikes-if your a new student to bluetooth I don't recommend this book for you because it's discusses a lot of advanced programming.LIKES-author explains subjects throughly.-book is small compact. Not a thick college book.-affordable/reasonable price-----------------------------I rate this book at 4 stars.any questions simply reply below!

Excellent, just get it
For most fast-moving technology, the latest facts will not be in a printed book. On the other hand, the "grazing method" of learning new tech from the web often overlooks important first principles that end up biting you as a developer. The author has struck an excellent balance between explaining "what" and "why". Perhaps even more significantly, he interjects suggestions that are very, very helpful for an implementation-focused reader. BTLE is very different from classic BT from an implementer's perspective and this book is a superb way to jump-start yourself.

Good Primer
I had never been involved with any BLE projects other than looking at code which abstracted away any chance of finding the problem. I needed to do antenna turning and battery life feasibility work and this was a really efficient at getting me started.

This is the book you are looking for. Full stop.
This is the most concise and complete book you need to read to understand all aspects of BLE.The explanations are clear and thorough. This is not a programming book. It is a protocol book; and a good one at that.Wish that all technical documentation were written this well.

Great coverage of all aspects of BLE.
The author did a nice job of explaining the mechanics of the low energy bluetooth spectral layout as well as the GAP and GATT profiles that describe how to identify and connect to a BLE device and how to discover services provided by a peripheral once the connection is made.

Out of date
As is the case with this kind of book, it is already out of date. Most of the content refers to the lower level layers, whereas anyone now who is working with BTLE will have this handled by their chip supplier. The issues I deal with are only handled in one chapter.

Helped massively when I was programming a BLE device
The reason why I turn to reference books rather than looking up how to use a tech stack online is because online guides often lack implementation details; they just tell you how to interface with your devices without explaining what's happening "behind the scenes", so to speak. Being the pedant that I am, this information is never enough for me.This book did not disappoint. I understand BLE now on a hardware/architecture level as well as a software/interface level. Other reviews might call it drivel, but on the contrary, the more detail, the better!

Good Hadbook.
Very good book. It explais the protocols in depth. For developer any one book is not sufficient.

Très complet
Un excellent ouvrage d'introduction au standard Bluetooth low energy qui va bien au delà de la simple description des cas d'utilisation les plus simples.
