Honeywell Uvex Bionic Face Shield with Clear Polycarbonate Visor and Anti-Fog/Hard Coat (S8510)

I tried many face shields before this model and I've finally found the winner. It's extremely balanced and comfortable but has successfully protected my face numerous times from dangerous chunks of wood and bark flying off my lathe. The visor is micro-adjustable so you can fit glasses or a respirator underneath - comfortably! Very sturdy build but this shield is light enough that you forget you're wearing it. Tips: • Remove the protective film off the visor before using! • Push the head strap adjustment knob in to adjust. • Spend a few minutes customizing the fit - helps with comfort and you only have to do it once. With 2,784 possible adjustment positions, I'm sure you can find the perfect fit. Pros: • Outstanding optics. Clear field of vision ahead, lower and peripherally • Strong polycarbonate visor is Ansi rated • Replaceable visor and sweatband • Can be adjusted while wearing • Anti-Fog actually works! (model S8510 only) • Visor flips up and stays up until you tug it down Cons: • So comfortable that you'll forget you're wearing the shield • The Darth Vader look frightens my dog

This face shield is amazing. I’ve had so many rocks hit my face, but not really because of this shield. It didn’t crack and it never fogs up. I am a picky worker and I want my equipment to work properly and this fits the bill!

What an upgrade! I've used the old style shields and they did their job, but were clunky, distorted vision, and annoying. This is light years ahead. The shield is optically excellent. There is no distortion across the field of view. The field of view is very wide and long (side to side and up and down). The supporting frame isn't in the way, even when the shield is pushed forward in the two mounting positions. I tried the shield forward because I didn't want it to fog the way my old one sometimes did. That wasn't needed. The anti-fog works well, at least when it's new. I don't know how well it will last, but it's great so far. This was going back and forth between a shop with a/c and a covered outdoor area (20 or so degree difference in temps) in about 70% humidity. Super cold may perform differently. The mask is comfortable on the head, with several adjustments to make it fit a range of wearers. Padding is good, and it stays in the up position until you pull it down. It's not difficult, either, and doesn't try to push the straps off your head if you adjust the shield position. Protection is good with good coverage from forehead to neck. I used it for metal grinding with handheld angle grinders and bench grinders, and a cold saw. There were times you could hear bits flick and hit the plastic, but it wasn't nicked up or damaged. Over time I'm sure it will succumb and need to be changed, but that seems like it will be a while out at this pace.

I was finally able to get some time with my new (to me) lathe spent a couple of minutes making needed adjustments to the face shield. You're able to adjust a two straps to get the hood to fit as you like, a back strap adjustment (going around your head) and the top strap (going over your head). This may be a personal preference and my issue alone, but I don't want the shield to move around or feel lose when using it so I have the top strap adjusted so the hood is "resting" on the top of my head. Initially, there is no discomfort or pain when putting the hood on, but after wearing it for a couple of hours, that's not the case. This can be resolved easily by wrapping a washcloth or shop towel around the top strap and taping it in place...or something along those lines. My only other option is to over tighten the back strap so the hood is secure without having the top strap resting on my scalp. With prolonged usage, this will give me a headache, so I choose not to do that. Again, this may be a personal preference and has nothing to do with the quality or functionality of the hood. In fact, almost every other hood I looked at was the same or similar to this one, so I don't think my experience would be any different. Great product / value for the price and it works as designed. I, being the delicate flower that I am, would just like to see some padding on the top strap!!

I'm a retired machinist with over 25 years running all sorts of machines. Because of this I've used all sorts of different face protection. I'm now getting into wood turning and even though I knew I needed a face shield I had been putting it off. I had neck surgery about 5 yrs. ago so my neck isn't as strong as it used to be so I've been putting off getting a face shield. Until I had a 3" inch long piece of wood come out of a piece of Willow I was turning and stuck in my hair. It just missed sticking me in the face and happened so fast I didn't even see it. That's when I decided it was time to get that face shield. After a lot of looking I picked this one. The clear part wraps around the front to the sides far enough to give a good wide angle view. The bottom of it dips down far enough to cover the throat area and the top curves up and back giving protection from flying pieces from the front. The head gear for holding it is far better than the usual face shields have. The Head Band has a dial at the back that you push in and turn to tighten or loosen it. It also has padding in the front and back. I might add more to the front in the summer for a sweat band but for now its OK. The band going over the top has the usual hole and pin adjustment. The hinges on the side can be adjusted to set the face shield closer or further away from your face and that's really nice. Its something that I haven't seen on any of the other face shields I've used. When it came it had protective plastic film on both sides of the clear face shield that I had to peel off. It's a bit difficult to get the shield into the shell so to keep from getting finger prints on the face shield, and possibly scratching it, I only peeled the plastic film cover back about half an inch to a inch from the edges. Then mounted it in the shell before I finished peeling the protective film off the face shield. This Face Shield is pretty light compared to a lot of the others but it's still heavy enough to notice. Since I've had my neck operated on I can only stand to wear this for a few minutes at a time. I'm hoping that as I continue to use it my neck will get stronger and it wont be so hard to keep it on. The only thing that would make it even better would be having some pieces of protective film to put on the face shield to help keep it from getting scratched. Then when they get too dirty to see through just peel them off and put on a new one. I've seen these for the Trend Airshield Pro. I might try some of those for this face shield. Overall I think this is about the best face shield/face protection you can get without going to a full helmet setup. I have no problem with giving this a recommendation for anybody that's looking for face protection while running a lathe, a line trimmer outside, a bench grinder/cutoff saw, or any of the other things that you could need good protection for your face.

Debris would often pass around my 3M face shield while engaged in extensive string trimming work. So, I searched and found this face shield which has since not allowed any debris into my eyes during the same job. As a bonus, the anti-fog coating works very well as my old 3M used to fog up frequently enough to annoyingly interrupt my work. Note that it’s construction is not top tier but it continues to keep me from visiting the ER for foreign body in eye injuries. For this, I give this product, 5-Stars!

Very comfortable fit, changing shields is quite easy, the shield does not fog up at all during the past two weeks that I have used it, there is no part of the shield that blocks your peripheral vision on the sides or front of your face. Wouldn’t hesitate recommending this to anyone looking for a good shield.

Below I cover as much about my personal experience in using this shield. We have 3 double coated dogs & when I blow dry them or use the bower while brushing, lots of fur goes flying everywhere wet or dry. I I bought this to help keep the fur from getting in my face, eyes etc.. Anti fog: It still fogs a little just from breathing normally but it's not a big issue or problem. Comfort: It's very lightweight & the forehead foam strip is comfortable even after tightening it. Adjustment: The head strap is very easy to adjust & the shield lifts up & down easy w/o pulling it off your head from moving it up & down. Shield: It has a wide vision coverage so you don't have a small limited vision field. I use paper towel & water to clean the shield & prevent accidentally scratching the lens. Protection: As i have not used it working on anything with projectiles other than fur, I cannot say how strong the sheild is in protecting your face from potential injury. There is plenty of room to wear safety glasses underneath if you want extra protection for ease of mind. Ear protection: I would suggest depending on what kind of job you're doing to use separate ear protection as this shield does not fully cover the ears & it's just a hard plastic that could still break is anything heavy enough hits it. NOTE: I read some reviews complaining about the lens becoming scratched before use due to just taking the sticker on the front of the mask in the middle of it. There is a light blue color film that covers the lens. It is easy to peel off (front & back of lens) & mine never got scratched. I have tried multiple kinds of face sheilds & the ones with just a forehead strap & shield are junk. The shield if flimsy & the strap comes with adhesive foam that does not last long before it won't stay on plus no protection from projectiles getting to your fave from the sides. I'm very happy with this shield for the job that I bought it for protection. If you don't have a dog/s, fur getting stuck to your face or in your eyes or nose is not pleasant. Where was this 20 years ago! This shield is awesome! I have glasses so finding safety glasses is impossible. I purchased this for metal work and it is fantastic. I plan on ordering another so both my wife and I can work together as this will be perfect for most activities that required protection from flying debris such as metal work, wood work, or grass trimming. The face shield is comfortable, light, and vision is not limited.

Great shield, well some says this is overkill but what is overkill when safety is concern? I always gets saw dust in my eyes and I wonder will I be able to see when I get older

Esta mascarilla de cara completa es muy buena, protege muy bien, se puede graduar, no se empaña, es cómoda y tiene muy buena visibilidad. Ahora sí le podrás decir a Godzilla "sí, es verdad que estoy gastando mucho en herramientas, y qué?" Sólo asegúrate de tener puesta la mascarilla cuando se lo digas :-)
