Thrilled!
I couldn't be happier with the Costway 53Qt Dual Temp Zone frig & freezer combi. I've only had it a few days. And have not REALLY used it outside of my office for testing and getting to know it. So.. maybe I follow up with a field review in a few months? After giving it a day to settle I started it up on household AC current. It cooled down - as others have noted - to respectable set temps for both compartments in about 35 minutes. The Alpicool app works great. Our cooler says Stakol on the side. It seems well made. Handle feels solid. Wheels roll nice. Its NOT super super bomb-proof heavy duty - but i hope it will serve for use in a camper van. I should mention that the cooler has only one power input. It comes with both household AC AND 12V cigarette-style lighter power supplies - but only one can be connected at a time. You cannot have it connected to BOTH AC power and DC power simultaneaously. One must manually swap from one to the other. No biggy. It is quiet enough for me. There is a gradual motor sound as the compressor starts up and a slight, low bubbling sound - kind of relaxing actually - of the refrigerant circulating, and a fan noise that is about as loud as our ancient Brother MFC laser printer warming up. The cooler is much quieter than the printer when its printing and clacking and clicking and paper is feeding. The overall sound is very much like a laster printer warming up before printing. After it cooled down on house AC I plugged it into my Goal Zero Yeti 3000X power bank using the included 12V cigarette lighter connector to check power consumption. I changed performance setting from MAX to ECO as this is how I would want to use it traveling and boondocking in the adventure van. I also put a few random things in the frig side and the freezer side to see how it did. My plan was to run it for a day loosely simulating typical use and check temps in both sides against the cooler's built-in screen and to log duty cycles and avg currents (amp draw) and watt-hours and avg power use over a 24 hours period. The results are probaly NOT entirely scientific but for me they are useful. In general the ambient temps varied from 68F - 73F. The cooler did really well at achieving the temps I set for dual use. For the most part i wanted the frig area to be 38F and the freezer side to be 6F. It seems to favor the frig side (left side) but with these set points it pretty much kept the frig side between 35-41 and the freezer side 5-11! I found the built in temp display to be reasonably accurate. The frig side is pretty much spot-on. I think the freezer side might display 3-4 degrees colder on avg than it really is at the bottom of the right side - but sometimes it was exactly correct. For me it is more important to NOT freeze stuff in frig vs having the freezer be 10F instead of 5F. The freezer froze a canning jar of water solid in a few hours and the frig side never went below 32.8 - even when I had it set to 35F. The upper area of freezer basket does tend to be about 10F warmer than the bottom of freezer basket, when using in dual mode anyway. I don't know if the frig side is like this too or not. It would not surprise me if the top few inches on both sides could be counted on to always be 10 degrees warmer than the very bottoms?Energy use: This thing is really good! Once cooled down and less than 1/2 full of stuff running on 12V ECO mode it uses about 32-34 watts (2.8 A) for about 30 seconds to start up when it has been idle. Idling it uses about .5 watts - half a watt - just to run bluetooth, the screen and the sensors. It has a "soft," gradual start and made no funky, clunky sounds. The gentle bubbling resumes and the fan starts - again it sounds like a laser printer warming up. After about 30 seconds running the power usage drops to 24-28 watts for the rest of the duty cycle. In my experiments in my house opening and closing the lid to check display temps against my own sensors inside it tended to run for variable times between about 20-35 minutes and then go silent - idle - for 8-10 minutes. Over night it must have been idle for longer periods becuase the avg hourly usage dropped over night significantly. During the day - occasionally opening/closing/putting things in/taking things out it averaged 21 watt-hours per hour. But over 22 hours that avg dropped to 17.5 watt-hours per hour. Ambient temp probably avg 70F.So in 24 hours of light use this thing used 420 watt-hours! Actual use as measured by the Goal Zero Yeti 3000X. I am thrilled. Even with no solar or other charging with about 3000 watt hours available in the Goal Zero battery we should be able to run this frig&freeer combi for 3-4 nights along with some lights and fans without needing to charge up!!!!If it holds up to occasional travels in the van and daily use for some longer trips and maybe a freezer to augment our home freezers for a few months I will be a HUGE fan!

I love this fridge/freezer!
update:Look for app "Car Fridge Freezer" by Alpicool. App avail for both Android and iOS. Nothing to do on the fridge side to start the pairing process, just make sure you scan for the fridge from within the app. Once connected, you BT should be able to work with your phone from 40ft away.. (Phone needs to support newer BT standard ). You can control the fridge much easier with the app like setting the lowest temp, fine tune temp displayed, compressor start delay, how much temp rise is needed before compressor kicks on etc...I can confirm my 53qt model (24413-CYPE) has a working BT connection! If you are using both compartments, the full size compartment will cool faster and have lower temp slightly.. (initailly you will see full size compartment temp go down first.... as smaller compartment temp goes down the full size compartment temp will go up temporarily until smaller compartment temp settles.)Btw, compressor runs much smoother and quieter now after I let it run for a week non-stop at 0 degree F.Adding 1 star back for the working BT app!---------Original Review:This fridge is almost the same as Alpicool T50, however I chose this model because it has a 50W compressor vs Alpicool T50's 45W, Costway 53 quart model weights 38 lbs and Alpicool T50 weights 34.2 lbs, the density of the insulation and compressor size may have contributed to the weight difference between this two model.Warranty is only 6 month.. that's pretty bad (minus one star). I think that applies to both workmanship and compressor. My experience has been good when I contacted the Seller with questions. Keep in mind the Seller is not the manufacture therefore they need to contact the manufacture for answers to some of my questions.PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT POWER ON your fridge the same day you receive your shipment.. Let your fridge/freezer stand upright in the operating position for AT LEAST 24 hours! Refrigerant/(oil) needs to settle down, you run the risk of killing your compressor if you don't wait. Be patient! (My unit was delivered upside-down).Pro:1. Fast cool down. 70F ambient temperature to 32F took only about 15min.2. Good insulation. (including insulated lid). As good as most high quality coolers out there.3. Sturdy construction. I can sit on the cooler without worrying about damage it, very sturdy!4. After playing with the internal sittings (E1 to E9) I was able to easily bring the (real) temperature down to -10F and beyond... (with thermometers placed at the bottom of each compartment).5. Removable center divider allows more flexibility for everyday use. (divider operates a magnetic switch at the bottom of the fridge to switch between single zone or dual zone temp controls.)6. It has a drain plug!7. It has LEDs.7. It has WHEELS!Cons:1. Warranty is only 6 month. (info received by email after contact Costway CS.)2. Compressor starting up and shutting down with a noticeable "thud" and vibration. Not very reassuring.3. Flimsy handles, no indents in the casing itself to move the fridge if handles break. (You can make a rope handle if the plastic handle breaks)4. Temperature display is wacky, initial thermostat control sitting is not calibrated. (I know it is almost impossible to do the calibration for each fridge due to the level of refrigerant and power input but at least we should have better documentation/instruction to do the calibration on our own)5. Doesn't have a breaker/fuse protection. (some internal load protection maybe in place, because user manual suggested many time to resolve issues with a 30 minutes wait time.6. No Bluetooth connection despite instruction from user manual and email from Costway CS to download Alpicool's Android/Apple app. (At least my control panel does not work with Bluetooth)7. Very poor documentation.Suggestion:To make fridge/freezer temp more stable and to reduce compressor run time I placed two large Cooler Shock ice packs in the fridge, one in each compartment. Cooler Shock freezes colder than ice, each pack is the equivalent to about 15 lbs of ice, it alone can lightly freezes drinks without the compressor being on.. this goes a long way to stabilize your fridge's temperature between 35F to 50F. (won't help you if you try to use the unit as a freezer, in that case, and won't help much at maintaining freezing temp)Note:You CAN control your fridge/freezer's hidden settings without BT app, however it is not very intuitive. (Turn off the power 1st, while fridge is off, press and hold setting (gear icon on touch control) until you reach setting menu. Due to NO documentation for these settings, know what you are doing before you change any setting.

Efficient, works well, but seriously, a BLACK top, send the designer back to school
This is an initial review, so I have no idea how long it will last, but for $260 it is a great deal.1. It draws between 30-38w on economy and 45w on max so a the small solar system on my Pop-up camper or my Jackery with two panels have no problem keeping up with the 12v draw.2. It cools down quickly 15-30 min depending on your settings. Where as the old absorption fridge in the camper needs 24 hours for a solid cooldown.3. The baskets and ability to split the cooler into different zones are a definite plus. In test, I cooled the right side down to 2 F and the left down to 34 F. Using the Max setting it took about 1/2 hr to get them with the outside temp in the mid 80s F. Use a refrigerator thermometer to check the temp. My digital setting on the cooler was about 4 degrees off.Lastly, I would have given a 5 star rating had the cooler come with a light colored top. In the New Mexico sun the top gets hot enough to burn your hand or backside if you sit on it, as many folks will be inclined to do. I just finished painting the top white with a good prime coat followed by a couple of finish coats of spray paint. I hope it holds up. I see several of their other models come with white tops, but I needed a specific size with enough volume to fit my needs, yet small enough to fit through the pop-up door. I see many manufacturers make coolers with black tops; what are they thinking 'indoor coolers'? It may look cool in black, but its not.

Came defective! BUT SELLER MADE THINGS RIGHT!
Ok so fridge came and there was no AC adapter for starters. Talked to Cosway they are sending one they said. 👍 I didn't plug the fridge in as I was working. Tried it out first time today, so it sat for 4 days after shipping. We'll I noticed a huge scratch in the screen under the protective film. And wouldn't you know F3 error this fridge is defective. The compressor will not turn on. Sad 😥 face. Contacted Cosway so we shall see what transpires. I included picture so code and scratch can be seen. I'm not worried as I'm certain Cosway will replace the unit ...... I wanted to get some camping in and was hoping to have a fridge! This unit took awhile to come now it will be weeks till I get a replacement. I will update this review as things progress.Update. Couldn't get fridge to work but seller was fantastic in making things right! Sometimes things don't always work out but when a seller has great customer service it sure helps. Thanks you!

The freezer is amazing
I purchased this item for my camper van for extra fridge/freezer space.I wanted to ensure it worked properly, so plugged it in. There is a divider that allows you to have 2 different temperatures. Once the divider is removed, you have one temperature. So if you require, you can use it solely for a fridge or a freezer at any given time.As it was Christmas time, I needed somewhere to put my turkey. I decided to test the freezer. I removed the divider and placed my 20 lb turkey inside. It took a couple of days, but it froze that turkey SOLID.I am very happy with this item

Works best as a fridge or a freezer with the divider removed
I ran this for about 2 weeks inside my 72 degree C house and I found it impossible to stabilize the temperature when running fridge + freezer mode, with left side as the fridge and right side as the freezer. The fridge temperature setting would influence and affect the freezer and vice-versa. However, overall, I think this will do the job for trips in the bush longer than 3 days and I may just run it as a fridge. The AlpiCool Android app that you can download from the Apps Store works well for controlling from your phone and, in some ways, is easier to use than the controls on the unit itself.
