Perfect
I guess I can see what other reviewers are talking about regarding the "razor sharp fish hook" quality of these fasteners. We live in a society where lawyers have made everything we touch and use so completely antiseptic and safe that if someone sees something that might potentially harm them if they don't exercise reasonable care, alarm bells go off and chicken little springs into action.I've not been so inoculated, I'm careful, dexterous and used this product without gloves or injury. What you receive is a set of metal springs, with sets of clips that slide over each end of the spring, with two small (and not really sharp, not at all like a fish hook) hooks at the end. There's one short spring to be used for the narrow end of the board (great idea), the rest are all the same length. There are 5 or 6 sets, I forget now. I only used 3, that was enough. The hooks in question can spear through the edges of the material to pull it tight, or loop around strings that line the edge of your cover, depending on what kind you have. Mine has strings, so I did not have to put any holes in the edge of the cover. This is a quality accessory at a fantastic price, made 100% of plated metal so it should last for a very long time. If I could forecast any part of it failing (in the distant future) it would be the springs. You can buy general purpose springs at the hardware store for cheap, so if I ever need to, that'll be the route I'll take. Thin elastic bungee cord would work well too.I fully expect to be an grey haired old man (many years from now) still ironing my shirts with these clips holding the cover taut. Nice.

Seriously dangerous!
I was conflicted on how to review these. It took me half an hour to get them on, and it was an extremely dangerous endeavor. Had I not taken an earlier reviewer's advice to wear gloves, my hands would have been in ribbons. Yet, now that I'm done, I do have a nice tight ironing board cover that I'm convinced will not slide off. It really seems to do the trick, but I just think they could have made the springs a bit longer and still have achieved the required tightness without risking giant fish hooks embedded in your hands. Or they could have designed them better, such that there's something to hold onto aside from the actual hooks (I had a few close calls where the hooks actually dug through my gloves while trying to stretch them to the other side of the board). So in spite of the fasteners working like a charm once installed, I think the danger factor warrants two stars off a perfect score. Good luck to anyone who wants to try them, and definitely wear the sturdiest gloves you can find.

Springs 1--me 3
These springs are entirely too tight for someone with average or less strength in the arms. I really had to work to get the springs lodged properly--three of them. While I was wrestling with number 4, one of the spring mechanisms fell apart, the spring "zinged" away, and the pieces of the broken clip looked far from sturdy when I tried to put it back together. I couldn't do it, but the three I did manage to put in place (which were VERY taunt springs) seem to be doing fine. I guess you could say the final score of my wrestling match was--springs 1, me 3.

No instruction
I bought this a while ago. And I noticed at least now they have changed the picture on the item's page as to sort of give an idea how to use it. I had never used Cover Fasteners before, and when I bought the item, I thought there would be instructions in the packet, there are NOT.

Junk Sold on Amazon
This along with another company's ironing board cover fasteners I ordered a couple of weeks before were both junk. It would not sell in a dollar store. They would never fit a regular size ironing board cover and I even have a built in unit that is smaller. They were both meant for a child's play ironing board. I will throw them both in the trash as they serve no purpose. It is sad that Amazon is ruining their reputation with such junk on their web site for sale.

Don't stretch enough
These are not very stretchy and can only be used on the small end of the ironing board. Not nearly as good as the old ones I have that are metal with hooks on the ends. I was just adding to those.

Will do without.
I read the reviews before purchasing, but went ahead anyway. My ironing board is on the narrow side of the spectrum (13"), and the spring at the pointed end worked fine. The other three not so much. One grabbed and then snapped a second later, ending up in pieces. The other two snapped while I was stretching them across. I'm sending the pieces back to amazon- which is so lame. I think there should be an option to send a photo instead. What a waste of time and money.

Power Clip
I originally bought these for their intended use to secure an over-sized ironing board cover. I am a professional dressmaker and I use a cotton canvas on my overs-sized ironing board that I made myself. These clips are strong and sturdy and very "convertible".I bought and extra set to use around my work station for holding utility bags filled with sewing essentials. I highly recommend these in place of elastic. Why did they ever stop using these springs? I remember my grandmothers ironing board having them back in the day.
