Great plant tool.
These work really well with a wine bottle. Slow waters over 7 to 8 days. Arrived quickly. Careful. If you push the bottle too hard the spike will break. Dig the hole first don't just try to drive the spike thru plant roots.

Work well! Saves water. I just ordered more!
My household is conserving water, so watering my plants until the water runs through the bottom of the pot isn’t the ideal method for me anymore. I’ve been looking for self-watering solutions for my decorative potted plants inside and outside, which don’t involve an open vessel of standing water. Because, mosquitos. I was hoping these spikes would be the ticket, and they do not disappoint! I broke my first clay spike when I put it in a pot, fitted a small glass bottle on it, didn’t think it was deep enough so I crammed it in deeper by pushing the bottle down. Broken clay—whoops! (Better than broken glass though!) learned my lesson and dig a nice deep whole FIRST. I use these spikes with full size wine bottles in my bigger plants, and smaller glass soda or Topo Chico bottles in smaller pots. I think it looks cute on my patio where we’re often enjoying a beverage. In my indoor plants, the bottles are concealed in foliage. I used all 8 in the package rather quickly, and had more pots! I did try just filling bottles and “planting “ them upside down in pots without using clay spikes. I had mixed results. About half the time, the bottle just emptied right out inti the soul and drained out the bottom of the pot. So… I’m back to buy more spikes! I’ve been using these for about a month, and so far my plants are happy and so am I! We have had some gnarly spring storms roll through with high winds, heavy rain and some small hail and these spikes have stayed put (with a bottle in them), weathering just fine.

Happy hour for plants? Yes!
Are you a Gardner who enjoys a glass of wine? Ever wonder what to do with your extra bottles? Well wonder no more! Have a happy hour with your plants! Pros: I live in Arizona and the heat is extreme. It's difficult to know when my soil is suffering at different times of the day and this has been a great addition to make sure my plants aren't parched. Easy to use: push it into the soil, fill your bottle with water and place it right in. Kind of fun to give you plants a happy hour! Great value and design. Cannot beat the functionality for water retention. Fits in grow bags or gardens! Cons: They are sturdy but a bird broke one of mine and it was in pieces pushed into the soil. All in all I do recommend and will purchase again as I expand my garden!

Need careful handling, but do the job
I gave 5 stars because they performed as designed, and even though 3 broke, they are easily recyclable with natural materials. If you get these and are new to terra cotta, you need to follow the directions: soak them, and use a stick or post to make a hole for them instead of just trying to shove them into the dirt. Get them into the dirt up to the neck to reduce shock of putting bottles into them, and GENTLY insert bottles of water, don't just drop them in! Terra cotta is actually fragile, and I think people tend to forget that. These really helped when we discovered a load of compost was actually dead and I had to use bagged dirt and grow bags to get my seedlings to grow, survive and thrive while I repaired the beds.

Good product/ fragile
Very good for extended watering. The reason for only three stars is the spikes are very fragile when wet

Great Watering Solution for your potted plants.
Brilliant solution for keeping plants watered during the summer months, especially during vacation times. I usually have one per pot but double them up for vacation. THEY WORK.

easy to use and useful over time
These are wonderful products. I did not have any issues with breakage or damage others have indicated. I used clean regular and empty wine bottles and attached a 5" long clear piece of plastic hose to each bottle top to help insert the bottle into the open device. I also built a grid in a 12" deep clear plastic tub to help support the weight of everything as the bottles of water were heavy and the pots, which were 12" tall deep-root thin plastic, were pretty unstable. This also helped insert the bottle into the device and then stand it up directly above each pot. When I came home 2- weeks later, there was still water visible in most of the bottles. They kept my, just starting to send up a seedling shoot, plants well cared for in my absence.

Watering Spikes
I loved the product and it did a great job. But they broke easily.

I repotted some plants so the top of the terracotta spike is level with the soil. I used cobalt blue glass longnecks filled with water and inverted them into the spikes. No evaporation occurs and the plants take just the water they need via osmosis. I no longer over water or under water my plants. A perfect solution!

These watering stakes worked perfectly for me. I first bought them to keep my plants watered while I was on vacation, and they did exactly what I needed. Each stake supports an upside-down wine bottle filled with water, which slowly releases moisture into the soil. The key thing I learned (the hard way) is that your pot needs to be large enough and deep enough to anchor the stake securely. A full bottle of water is heavy, and if the soil can’t support the stake properly, it can tip or break — I did break a couple while figuring that out. Once I got the hang of it, they worked great. I used them again all summer on my deck for potted plants that need consistent moisture, and they really helped keep everything healthy without constant watering. Very effective, just make sure your containers are big enough and the stakes are firmly set in the soil.

Initially i thought...oh my gosh...they are huge. But this turned out to be great. After using, I really like these spikes because they are thick and sturdy and so they can carry a quite large bottle of water. This is perfect for me.

Excellent at getting water to the roots of plants. My plants look a lot healthier since I have started using them. They are a little pricey which is why I gave 4 stars and not 4.
