Works fine with slats, some concerns over durability
We have the DaVinci mini-crib but it has been sitting around unused for a while (I'll save the complaints for the review on the mini-crib). Now our kid is old enough we decide to give the conversion rail kit a try. The package contains the 2 rails on each side, and 8 bolts and barrel locks. the wood feels sturdy, although it's the same kind as the mini crib so it'll be prone to scratches.Installation was easy, just take apart the mini crib and attach the headboard and bed end to the rails using the provided bolts and barrel locks. It's a little tricky for one person, but for 2 people it'll be a piece of cake to install. I do have some concerns over relying on just the 8 bolts to handle the weight of the bed. It would be a better design if they used a joint to attach the rail and headboard (I think it's called Mortise and tenon joint), that would be much more reliable. The conversion rail kit doesn't come with slats/bunkie board or box spring, so we had to buy it ourselves. the width between the rails is exactly 38", so keep that in mind when you purchase the slats/box spring. We went with Ikea Luroy slats because it's cheap and has 16 slats; the Ikea boxspring would also fit (37.5" wide) but we didn't have means to transport it and didn't want to pay for delivery. Anyway, the slats fit right in, but tends to move around. This is a typical problem for Ikea beds so there're plenty of suggestions on the web for fixing it. for now we just placed the mini-crib mattress and the mattress board beneath the slats and that was tall enough to push against the slats, keeping them mostly in place. The bed is pretty low and around 1' off the ground, so depending on how thick your mattress is you may want to go with a box spring instead of slats.Overall we're happy with the results, although it would be better if DaVinci also offers the slats/box spring along with the conversion rails so we don't have to go out and buy something on our own.

It is a perfect match
The bed size conversion is great, however be very careful not to overtighten the bolts because you'll damage the wood as it is made with soft pine. There are two ways to assemble these rails, and while one way may look correct it is actually wrong and your mattress or spring box will not fit and if you force it in for a tight fit it will break the rails. Once assembled to the bed it does not use the Full/Queen size of anything greater than 55" x 7.5", rather it uses the actual Full size 53" x 74.5". If you plan to use an old Full/Queen mattress and boxspring size it might not fit. I am overall happy with the max built weight capacity of 175Lb, but remember that the max weight support includes the weight of the box spring and mattress. Therefore, you'll have 175lb - mattress +box spring weight = actual usage for you. You can always reinforce that of course if you have a little DIY woodworking skills d=('▽`)=b

Good, but...
We purchased this conversion kit three years ago at the time we purchased the crib. When we finally converted to the full bed a few weeks ago, we thought it was a bit weird that there were no slats to support the mattress, just a one inch lip in order to hold up the box spring. The mattress delivery guys almost didn't put the mattress in the frame because they were concerned that the frame wouldn't hold the box spring and mattress. Turns out that it does indeed hold everything, even with two adults and a toddler testing it out, but just to be sure we went to Home Depot and they cut us four 52 1/2" boards that we made into slats just in case. I'm glad we have the whole bed put together with matching parts, but it is a bit disappointing to have to spend an extra $15 on top of the purchase cost.

Just get a new bed
I am hoping this will help those who are looking to convert their Kalani crib to full size bed. After the conversion the dimensions were 75x52.5 inches. Width is between the two lips which will hold foundation in place. Most foundations are at least 53 inches wide and full beds are 54. We had to get Zinus Gulzar metal slats to keep mattress lower to ground. This was bit too wide so it had to be further tied down by Velcro so it won’t slide off. Between the conversion kit and the slats, I wonder a new platform bed would have been cheaper. But conversion is done, it works. I am not sure how long it will hold together. I will update the review in due time. Also all the screws didn’t line up well so one is now threaded and stuck🙄

Put on your thinking cap...
The conversion kit works, but don't expect a thorough instruction manual to help guide you. After much frustration, I had literally boxed the kit back up to send it back, thinking it was the wrong kit for the crib that we own.Curiousity then struck, and I took the unit back out to try a different attachment method. Amazingly, it worked. You will need a couple of extra bolts from the original crib assembly to completely fasten the conversion bed. Minus one star for completely inadequate instructions, but overall, the kit looks and functions well, once assembled.

Great solution
These rails are a great solution and do exactly what they say: all of a sudden, our crib turned toddler bed was a full-size bed that's a safe height (my opinion) off the floor for a small child. These are sturdy and were a perfect match to the color of the convertible crib. I was able to attach them to the head and footboards alone, but it would've gone much faster with another set of hands. The crib was a sunk cost already, so we essentially added a full-size bed for $90 (plus separate mattress) AND didn't have to bother with disposing of the crib.

Perfect match
No complaints but for price. Seems when you factor in cost of crib plus rails it's rather costly. Still, the convertible crib is a great idea. I love that my son keeps his bed from infancy to college and all the memories it holds. We have a box spring and mattress without any additional slats (they aren't needed unless you use mattress alone). It's perfect. One screw was stripped, so only four stars.

Makes a sturdy bed
My son outgrew his toddler bed and we bought the rails to convert it into a full size bed. He loves it! It makes him feel like a big kid. It wasn't difficult at all to convert the bed, it only took half an hour. If I'm reading to my son, I lie down with him, and the bed feels like any other bed made for an adult. The convertible bed is the best investment we have ever made for our son.
