Brewster's millions
This movie points out that our political parties spend millions of dollars (amount of money at that time) for an office that doesn't pay anywhere close to the amount spent to get that office. This movie also addresses the fact that our parties use that position to make that money back with interest from getting the office of President using the Mayor of N.Y. as an example. More people should watch this movie and wake up to why our 2 parties spend billions of dollars for all of our political offices when none of them pay anywhere close to what is spent on getting those offices and question why they spend those amounts and what they gain from the money they spend for those offices.

A Pryor Classic!

One of my favorite Richard Pryor films. A small gem that's still as funny today as it was when it was made.
BOTTOM LINE: Richard Pryor makes for a lovable loser. Film plot is an everyman's dream. The ensemble cast is quite good and director Walter Hill (known more for action stuff like 48hrs.) keeps Pryor from going too far of the chain, and thus more believable. Some foul language although not too much, (especially considering this IS a Richard Pryor movie. LOL). All-in-all, a pretty good little comedy. The zero frills Blu-ray from Sony is a letdown, but at least the picture & sound are solid. 4 STAR movie, 1 STAR Blu-ray.THE STORY: Down on his luck minor league baseball pitcher Monty Brewster gets a chance to change his life forever when he learns that a distant relative has left him a fortune. But wait, there are some rather odd stipulations that must be followed: he has to spend 30 million in 30 days but have zero assets to show for it. If he succeeds, he inherits a full 300 million. If not, he gets zilch. Also, if he agrees to try for the big money he cannot tell another living soul - or he forfeits it all. Lastly, he can pass on the challenge, under a provisional "wimp clause" that would give him one million up front, and just walk away. What will he do? What would YOU do??THOUGHTS: Umpteenth adaption/remake of George McCutcheon's 1902 novel is an enjoyable semi-family friendly outing from the surprising team of comedian Richard Pryor & director Walter Hill, (neither of whom are known for wholesome, family-friendly product. LOL.) Aside from some occasional blue language, this is a pretty straightforward old school/screwball style comedy. Pryor and John Candy make an amusing duo, and a solid cast of supporting players help make this film a lot of fun. Fairly low key for a Pryor flick, but that's a bonus here, IMHO. Some of Brewster's solutions are inspired, and it's always a hoot to put yourself in the hero's place - wondering just how you would tackle that enviable(?) challenge.THE BLU-RAY: Absolute zero-effort hi-def offering from Sony. Film just autoplays. The only selectable option is subtitles On/Off. That's it. Quite disappointing. This appears to be a basic 1080p transfer with no tweaks, improvements or restoration of any kind. Thankfully though, the video & audio quality is pretty strong. Picture is clean for the most part, though nothing to rave about. The sound is clear & the mix is level. Sadly, no bonus features at all.

Classic comedy without the pandering
I grew up in the 80s to great comedy and RP was one of the best. Between "Brewsters", "The Toy", and his stand up sets Richard was an absolute master with his ability to mix great humor with a lesson on his more successful movies.Brewsters Millions is one of my favorites and reminds one to not let money and spending govern your ability to find happiness.John Candy was fantastic and helped complete the "one-two" comedic punch.I have enjoyed watching this with several people and we have all enjoyed it together.

This is an 80's gem. Richard Pryor discovers that he is the sole heir of an very wealthy old white guy. Is inheritance is $300 million, but the only way that he can collect, he has to spend $30 million in a short time. But he must follow certain rules or if not he loses the whole lot. 1) he mustn't tell a sole about needing to spending $30 million in order to collect $300. 2)he can't keep anything he buys. 3) he can't give the money away.John candy does a great job has Richard Pryor's best friend, he shows why he had such a huge fan base.I first saw this movie has a kid. It has stood the test of time & still stands up has a classic comedy of the 80s.A coworker watched the movie for the first time recently. He loved it so much he spent nearly a week wanting to talk about it.
