Excellent book , well researched with great illustrations
I found this book to be very well researched and written and useful to me personally with great topics. Lot of hands-on illustrations. I like the style used here as every concept and/or command is illustrated with an example. I consider myself a Database Subject matter expert but with little or no knowledge of Cassandra. I bought this book and found it excellent for my learning as it would be for a beginner (Of-course it help to knows some database concepts - For DBA, developers). I found this perhaps the best book tout there on the Subject. I like having a book over online Linux Academy for instance (that has it's place off-course !) since it allows me to work on areas with the book and try my own sample features and queries with out switching to a web page. Just like the convenience of sometimes not being in front of my computer all the time. Highly recommend.

Good book
I am a DBA myself and we use mainly Oracle, sql server and mysql at our place. We have a 25+ nodes small cluster for Cassandra and most of us are catching up and learning Cassandra. This book is well written and I am able to get lot out of it in terms of operational support for Cassandra cluster and best practices we need to follow. The detailed explanation of compactions, tombstones was very helpful. We started TTL of data recently and now we realize what we need to pay attention to tombstones.I found this is a very good book to start learning Cassandra not just for the beginners but also who are supporting Cassandra like me. We are planning to use this book to train other DBA in our team to support our cluster.

Useful for DBA's
This book is really good if you are looking for an admin guide on Cassandra.I am a developer and work with many databases.I wanted to know more about Cassandra architecture and came across this book. The book seems to have detailed steps and commands to perform various tasks DBA’s do on regular basis. As a developer, I may not have to do these but chapters on architecture, CQL, data modeling and backup and restore are interesting and informative.

Great book! Highly recommended
I bought the book in August and just finished reading. Good book to start learning Cassandra. I am a developer and work with Oracle and Mongodb and recently we started using Cassandra. I have read 2 other cassandra books, but this one gave me lot of answers to my questions with an example. The tombstones and it's effect were new to me. Author has given code samples which helped me to understand clearly. I felt that as a developer it is important to understand the architecture at a basic level, and this book just covers that which I was looking. I recommend this book if you are looking for a Cassandra administration book.

A must read for Cassandra DBA aspirants
The book just covers all the aspects I wanted to learn on Cassandra. It walks through the concept of Cassandra clusters, installation and administration in a very simple language with pictorial representation. I was able to read the book in couple of sittings as it was very interesting and the subject matter was covered as if I was taking a live course. The installation steps were easy to follow and able to install all on my desktop and try out my practice. Strongly recommend for Cassandra DBA aspirants or data scientists!

Great read
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The early introduction to NoSQL technologies with comparisons and contrasts to traditional SQL RDBMS technologies and approaches was organized and well thought out. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to transition from administrative responsibilities with traditional Oracle, Microsoft, DB2 or Sybase databases to Cassandra or other open source NoSQL technologies / horizontally scalable clusters.
