Great Resource Book!
When I got it and saw how thin it was I thought I was going to be disappointed. Wrong! The first half is your basic how to section, but the second half has a lot packed into it. I was thinking of buying individual themed kits, which can get pricey. Now I don't need to, this book has a little bit of everything: birthday, weddings, baby stuff, toys, birds, frogs, fish, a train..and so much more. There are some very nice flowers too and even some Christmas stuff. The pictures and directions are very clear and easy to follow. As soon as I thumbed through it (twice), I picked up my quilling and made some daffodils! One thing that has annoyed me about many of the quilling books I have bought is that they usually just have directions on making a finished card, box, frame etc. and not many of them. It is exactly what it says it is, a book full of ideas for making borders and motifs, what you do with them is up to you! So If you're looking for a book with directions for finished projects this probably isn't for you.

Delightful and inexpensive little book of quilled designs
Quilled Borders & Motifs is a delightful and inexpensive little book of quilled designs. While some of the book is devoted, as its title indicates, to borders most is dedicated to individual motifs like flowers, insects, and birds or to seasonal items like Christmas candles, wreaths and snow flakes, that the student can assemble into their own designs. The author, Judy Cardinal, gives a few illustrations for the use of her designs on pages 22 and 23, but she does not go beyond creation of simple motifs in the remainder of the book. If you are a person who follows directions well, but who does not like experimenting with their own designs, this book will probably not be as helpful as others which are more directive and specific. If you enjoy taking design to a higher level on your own, the book will allow you to creat original works of your own, while learning the techniques of the art and without the intrusion of the author's creative influence. In short, by not making elaborate examples, the author allows even encourages the student's own creativity. The beginner will enjoy the book for its very extensive discussion of technique. Almost half of the book is dedicated to it, the rest to the individual motifs and templates for their creation, which makes the book a bargain for the beginner. Advanced quillers will probably find the book useful for the clever individual motifs, although most are very simple and will probably appear in similar guise in books you may already own.

Just what I wanted
I was looking for instructions to allow me to build my own "frames" and this had just what I needed. Instructions are clear. Not limited to just one use, you could combine motifs to make lots of diffferent looks.

Incomplete Instructions
The book has pretty motifs and offers some templates , however the author does not give detailed instructions leaving you to guess and having too much trial and error.

A favorite for sure!
I love this book and couldn't wait to quill about ten immediately. I will say it's not for beginners. The instructions are not detailed but if you are a 'quiller' you'll do fine. Some of her ideas are so cute I even showed my husband the book! This book will make you smile!!!

Practice, Practice, Practice
I was recommended this book. I learnt the art of quilling recently, the book is so easy to follow. I spend most evenings practising different size quills flowers etc. I follow the instruction which are quite easy and have learnt so much. I now have confidence to make cards. The one item I loved was how to do filigree work. I had to buy extra papers i.e. silver edged and graduated papers for some of the items I have been practising but... Quilling is so relaxing and stress free. The book stays on my desk!

A lovely book for beginners
As an enthusiastic but relatively inexperienced quiller, I am loving this book. Clear instructions. Lists of basics. Inspiring and instructive pictures with many ideas for small projects and ways to build them into much larger pieces of work too. An excellent guide for anybody into paper craft. Well worth the price.

New ideas for quilling
This book has lots of new ideas for the quiller. The designs are modern, artistic and clearly explained. I have several quilling design books but this is by the far the best I have seen for a long time. I can really recommend it for experienced or novic quillers.

Great
I purchased this at the same time as buying Beautiful Quilling only to find out that it was included in the Beautiful Quilling book. Nevertheless, it is a good book and I will give it to one of my family to try their hand at the relaxing pastime of quilling
