The previous owner lost the gas cap, so just threaded a cap on the fuel tank that more or less sort of fit. Well, it kept the rain out, but didn't seal the gas in as well. Hit a big bump, and a little gas would ooze out around it. Tighten it up enough to not leak, then it would not let air into the tank, and the engine would die after a little while.Put this little guy on, and the gas stays in, and it vents like it should.
