Product description United Kingdom released, Blu-Ray/Region B DVD: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), English ( Subtitles ), WIDESCREEN (1.85:1), SPECIAL FEATURES: Cast/Crew Interview(s), Featurette, Interactive Menu, Photo Gallery, Scene Access, SYNOPSIS: John Cleese's knack for mining hilarity from the growing frustration of a dignified gentleman is fully exploited in the British comedy Clockwise. Cleese portrays Brian Stimpson, a perfectionist English headmaster who has been selected to make an important presentation before a group of his peers. When Stimpson sets out upon his journey, however, he finds himself facing a seemingly never-ending series of delays and inconveniences, which range from missing a train to becoming a fugitive from the police. The film goes no deeper than its farcical surface, but is nevertheless consistently entertaining, thanks to former Monty Python member Cleese's precisely tuned transitions from composure to complete collapse. ...Clockwise (1986) (Blu-Ray) Synopsis John Cleese, at his harried best in this hilarious British comedy, plays a school headmaster obsessed with punctuality. His best laid plans to attend a headmasters' conference go wrong when he boards the wrong train. He turns back to find alternative means of transport, hijacking one of his pupils who is taking the afternoon off school in her father's car. As the journey descends into further chaos, the head begins to lose his schoolmasterly poise.Extras:Interview with Michael FraynClock watching with Mr. CleeseStills gallery

At last: on blu-Ray!
This under-rated gem has long merited a blu-Ray, even decent DVD release, and the wait is over.As a fan of it for years, I can confirm it both looks and sounds stunning in the blu-Ray transfer. If you’re a Cleese fan you won’t be disappointed. I’ve always actually preferred the Brian Stimpson character over Basil Fawlty, and Cleese explains the subtle differences in one of the extras : ‘ clockwatching ‘ ( Its not a new addition- seems to date from 2001 ).A nice, new extra interview with the screenplay writer, Michael Frayn. If you’re a fan of this film, don’t hesitate.

A welome upgrade to a gem of British comedy.
John Cleese is perfectly cast in this fast paced, frenetic and hugely funny classic but oft overlooked British gem. As a person who is always late for everything I completely understand the frustrations of those I keep waiting.Well acted and very well crafted and acted, this has to be one of my favourite comedies of all time! The blu ray remaster is very good ( not an expert in terminology of the digital sciences) but is crisp and clear, with good sound quality. This is in comparison to the DVD I own that was given away with the sun years ago. (not a bad copy in itself). Justly deserves this new version which I thoroughly recommend.

A farce which keeps the minutes ticking by
"This, is an historic moment".....This 1985 gem, I think, was my introduction to proper British comedy and while not an absolute classic, features farce, wit, irony, misdirection, slapstick and of course John Cleese. It is the day of the Annual Headmasters Association conference and Cleese has the honour of being the first Head of a Comprehensive school to be awarded the position of Chairman. The day starts at his school in an unknown, but southerly location and after a morning assembly and the usual rollicking of ne'er do well students ("9.30!") his careworn wife played by Alison Steadman heads drives him to the train station to catch the train to Norwich. Farce and error ensues including missing his train, forgetting his speech papers, comandeering a female student plus Mini and the assumption from wife and parent that he's having an affair. All of this plus more culminates in a dishevelled Cleese at the podium in the conference as relatives and policemen gather to attempt to capture him. This is classic Cleese who is in full Basil Fawlty mode and his explosive sarcastic wit and physical comedy is on display throughout as things go from bad to worse. The problems seem to gain weight as the film progresses and that makes for a nice pacing as all the comedy is not frontloaded. If the film suffers from anything it's just the turning of time. We have a music teacher having an affair with a student who is under 18 and we have a "male only" Headmasters association, (which surprised me for 1985!).However, given they are the only challenges, this is likely to be a hidden gem for people to explore.

From a different time...
IMO, this is John Cleese's best non-Python film, better than a Fish Called Wanda. Shot in the days before mobile phones, (were there such days I hear you ask?) Yes, there were, and this film is from 1986, a totally different age to todays very dubious values. The lack of said devices allows such amusing scenes as the telephone box incident, and that lack of communication in general allows the many farcical set pieces. Well remastered, it is worth the money. I downloaded this on Prime HD for a very cheap price, I've seen the DVD at four times the price. Get it just to see Cleese at his best, in Basil Fawlty Mode!

Fantastic 1980s Comedy, looking better than ever.
Fantastic film, well layed and well directed. The film quality is pretty good... its what you would expect from a film if this age shot on this stock. Its the best it's ever looked and the upgrade from DVD is worth the price alone!
