This concert is fantastic, a lovely archive of a solid band.The DVD is fantastic and opens the concert with a fun Charlie Chaplin skit. It leads into the opening number "School"; which is (in my opinion) a Supertramp staple, and it is executed in a phenomenal manner. "Hide In Your Shell", "Rudy", "Child of Vision", "Fool's Overture", and "Goodbye Stranger" have to be my favorite performances the band has done. They are priceless!You can observe the setlist on the back of the packaging so I will contain myself from analyzing each track individually. However, if you are a fan of Supertramp OR you just discovered them and want to know what to listen to, this is a must have. Excuse the redundancy, but this setlist has a nice spectrum of their catalog of music up unto "Breakfast In America".Along with their musicianship, the gang demonstrates that they can be sophisticated and goofy in a tasteful manner, as we have some costumed characters run on the stage to add some theatrical aspects to the show.I don't want to give anymore away, it is a must watch. It is a great DVD, and it includes some of the tracks that weren't previously recorded in the Extras menu, which is nice!Again, sorry for being a broken record, but it you are a fan or beginning to acquire a Supertramp phase, this is a great package to help you discover more from this gem of a band.

Whether on CD like this, or in the Bluray format, which I would also highly recommend, this concert is nothing short of amazing. The performances of all of their best hits is fresh in the live setting. Never does it feel like they're just pumping out the studio version. And to watch on Bluray or listen on CD to Fool's Overture is a jaw-dropping, chilling experience that makes the entire CD or Bluray worth buying JUST FOR THAT ONE SONG. And BTW, I saw them on this tour during their Canadian leg of the tour. In fact, I believe we may have been their very first stop.

I love the concert DVD. I went to see Supertramp in Philadelphia PA right after Break in America was originally released and the DVD is great. I like the CDs too. The concert on the CDs includes more songs that were offered on the original two album set and CD set. I've already told another friend of mine that he has to buy this Supertramp package and my friend ordered it last week. I will tell others to buy this Supertramp package deal. I'm really impressed being a huge fan of the band. I would love to see more deals like this offered regarding a Supertramp concerts both newer and older concerts. I would love to be able to purchase DVDs of Supertramp after Roger left the band that includes live music from Supertramp's Free as a bird and later. It's a shame Roger left so this is why more people need to purchase this package.

Complete Paris concert on 2 CD's and the concert minus 5 songs (incl. as bonus video clips) on DVD. Sound is well balanced and the supreme professionalism of this band is just beautiful. I love seeing the constant moving around of Hodgson, Davies and Helliwell between wurlitzer, piano, synth, guitars and woodwind instruments. It shows how versatile and musically intelligent Supertramp was. It is definitely a peak and the body of work was fantastically strong! School, A Soap Box Opera and Crime of the Century are milestones! And since we all get the chance to pour out our admiration and love for all these music heroes here - Crisis? What Crisis?, their '75 album is my favourite and it should be a must have on your shelf!

For a 1979 video, this dvd has amazing audio and video quality. But let's get to what's really important; this video highlights Supertramp's amazing songwriting and musicianship. Let's face it, some bands that are great in the studio suck live. These guys go the other way. They take their great studio recordings and take it to another level live. As for detractors of this DVD, I only wish I had the audio equipment and superb hearing to detect if this DVD is more spacious or has better ambience or has better separation between the instruments than some other format. If you like supertramp, just buy it; you'll love it.

VIDEO I bought this release because I have the Blu-ray version of this album and I wanted to see if the extra tracks on the Blu-ray that were released with animations for video instead of live footage would have the live footage on this release. Sadly, it is the exact same release but in DVD format. That's still not a big qualm, but the video quality isn't great on either format. It's grainy and dated. Of course it was filmed in 1979, so that is excusable but this would have been a good chance to remaster the video and get better quality. To add insult to injury, there is a line that runs across the screen from top to bottom and moves from left to right that is not present on the Blu-ray. I'm not sure if this is a defect on my copy or if it is just another poor judgement in quality control.AUDIO: The audio on this set is terrible. The original Paris vinyl release had excellent dynamics and quality and the cd remaster was good. This release destroyed that. The quality is terrible. The bass drum is very hard to hear, as well as the cymbals. There is definitely compression, which is so poorly done that you can hear an almost flanger-like effect added to the midrange. This is really a letdown. I am a huge fan of the original Paris album and I would've been OK with buying this set just to get the extra tracks that weren't included in the 1980 double album (tour was in '79, live album was released in 1980).For all of you fellow Supertramp fans, if you have a Blu-ray player, then that release is your best bet. Don't bother with the cd's in this release. It's better to get the 2002 remaster of that album, which sounds much better and has more detail to the sound.

París es uno de los discos que ha marcado mi vida y, a mi juicio, imprescindible para cualquier amante de la música contemporánea. Así de sencillo. Se editó cuando yo tenía casi 14 años. Simplemente, si no lo tenías o, al menos, no lo habías escuchado, no sabías nada de música.De sobra es conocida la escisión del grupo poco después, tras el lanzamiento y gira del "Famous Last Words". En este caso, según mi opinión, el resultado de la separación, como suele ocurrir, fue bastante menor que la suma de las partes y ni Roger, por un lado, ni Rick y el resto de la banda por otro, consiguieron mantener el nivel previo. Tuve oportunidad de verlos, al uno este pasado Julio en Madrid, calcando de forma tan precisa que casi me resultó mecánica y sin corazón las canciones que tocó con Supertramp rodeado de una banda totalmente similar y a los otros en el Frontón de la Casilla, en Bilbao, a comienzos de 1986, cuando promocionaban su "Brother Where You Bound" y aún respetaban ese supuesto pacto de no tocar las piezas de Roger, así que, en diferentes momentos he conseguido casi tener la misma experiencia, aunque a plazos.París refleja a un grupo en estado de gracia, tras cuatro álbumes fenomenales, desde el "Crime Of The Century" hasta el cénit del "Breakfast In America" y al final de la gira de promoción de este, quizás su mejor disco.Esta versión reúne, según aparece en las notas del libreto, la versión íntegra y, en el CD, en el orden riguroso de aparición, del concierto de uno de los dos últimos días, de los 4 que tocaron en París, del 29 de Noviembre al 2 de Diciembre de 1979.Los que compramos alguna o varias de las versiones del "Paris" original encontraremos por fín muchas explicaciones, viendo el dvd que acompaña a los 2 cd, dando forma con las improvisaciones de los mimos o con las proyecciones en la pantalla del fondo del escenario a muchos de los pasajes instrumentales, aclamaciones del público y comentarios del maestro de ceremonias del grupo, ni Roger ni Rick, sino John Anthony, que, a pesar de no colaborar con las composiciones, sea el que, para mí, mejor refleja el espíritu bohemio y desenfadado de la banda, aunque, no nos confundamos, nos encontramos ante unos músicos excepcionales y aquí sudan la camiseta al máximo, demostrando su virtuosismo y profesionalidad.También nos encontraremos con todas esas canciones que, al menos yo, siempre eché de menos en el álbum original y, que sí se tocaron, pero no se incluyeron inexplicablemente en él. Las versiones suenan frescas, vívidas, y en ocasiones, creo notar que pertenecen a una toma diferente a la del álbum original.De la fantástica edición, al parecer, elaborada por el mismo equipo técnico que acompañó a la banda durante estos años y la convirtió quizás en el grupo más importante de aquel final de los 70, el productor Peter Henderson entre ellos, sí echo en falta incluir en los créditos al coro que acompaña a la banda que se ve en el DVD y que no he encontrado por ningún lado.Obviamente, esta edición, deja completamente sin sentido adquirir la previa. Ya lo anuncia la portada, quién se quedaría con el Arco de Triunfo, pudiendo tener la Torre Eiffel.Simplemente imprescindible.

Mettons tout de suite de côté la polémique qui consiste a dire a chaque fois ce que tout le monde sait depuis longtemps: A savoir que rien ne ressemble plus a un album de SUPERTRAMP qu’un concert de SUPERTRAMP. Ceux qui feront donc le choix de cette acquisition inespérée sauront donc pourquoi et ce qui les attends. Les 5 musiciens ne s’écartant quasiment jamais de leur partition initiale.Si le concert en image possède un son des plus corrects puisque restitué grâce aux moyens d'aujourd’hui, l’image demeure elle assez fade. Epoque oblige (30 ans !!!). Les moyens techniques n’étant certainement pas ceux d’aujourd’hui non plus, il est dommage de ne pas pouvoir apprécier le jeu très « jazzy » du batteur Bob Siebenberg. Dougie Thompson (basse) n’étant lui non plus guère plus mis à l’honneur. Grand absent de ces images également : Le public.Dans ces conditions, on peut alors se demander ce qui pourrait motiver le potentiel acheteur a envisager de se procurer un produit tel que celui-ci. Mais moi je vais vous dire… Pourquoi.Outre sa belle présentation en édition Digipack, ce Live in Paris ’79 est surtout indispensable pour tout fan qui se respecte puisqu’il contient enfin l’intégralité du concert. « Goodbye Stranger », « Child of Vision », « Even in Quietest of Moments », « Downstream », « Give a Little Bit », « Another Man’s Woman » figurent enfin au menu de ce Live vieux de plus de 30 ans. 22 morceaux contre 16 auparavant, vous ne pourrez donc plus vous plaindre d’un concert au rabais dorénavant.Comme toujours dans un tel produit, un livret explicatif nous narre (en anglais forcément) tout ce qu’il convient d’apprendre sur cette période déjà si lointaine d’un des groupes les plus doués en matière de musiques élégantes et de textes chiadés.En définitif certaines choses n’ont nul besoin d’être expliquées, partagées ou comprises. Car tout n’est finalement lié qu’à ces histoires d’amour qui nous rattachent à certains de nos plus beaux souvenirs musicaux. SUPERTRAMP fait partie de ces groupes qui m’ont ainsi apportés mes premières émotions fortes en matière de musique. Dans ces conditions, comment continuer à faire comme si de rien n’était en me privant d’un produit comme celui-ci. C’est tout bonnement inconcevable !Vous l’aurez compris, cette définitive et ultra complète édition de 2011 est avant tout réservé aux vrais amoureux du groupe et/ou pour tous les collectionneurs de cette formation unique en son genre.18/20

Diese Rezension bezieht sich nicht auf die Musik des großartigen Albums (es gibt genügend Rezensionen darüber), sondern mehr auf die nicht immer nachvollziehbare Veröffentlichungsstrategie einiger großer Musikkonzerne, die es damit zumeist schaffen ' wie ich selbst in meinem Fall sehe ' immer neues Geld der Fans zu generieren.Ein tolles Live-Album, das ich schon seit 1980 als Doppel-LP im Regal stehen habe. Auch die 'Breakfast In Europe'-Tour hatte ich 1979 in der damals noch existenten Kölner Sporthalle gesehen. Schon damals vom Sound erstklassige Vinyl-Qualität, hatte ich mir das Album im Zeitalter der CD Mitte der 90er Jahre in den USA als Doppel-CD gekauft, während ich das Remaster von 2002 bis heute nicht gehört habe.2006 wurden die Multitrack-Tapes und das verloren geglaubte 16mm-Filmmaterial in einer Scheune des Drummer Bob Siebenburg in Nord-Kalifornien gefunden. Ziemlich beschädigt, wurde beides in den nächsten Jahren aufwendig in den USA, Großbritannien und Neuseeland in das digitale Format bearbeitet und damit beginnen entsprechende Neuveröffentlichungen, die aus Käufersicht nicht immer wirklich verständlich sind.2010 wird das Album 'Breakfast In America' als Deluxe-Edition veröffentlicht mit einer Bonus-CD, bestehend aus Live-Tracks der damaligen Konzert-Tour 1979. Hierunter finden sich auch die fünf oder sechs fehlenden Titel aus den Paris-Konzerten, die aus Laufzeitgründen seinerzeit keinen Platz mehr auf dem Vinyl-Format der Doppel-LP fanden. Die Doppel-CD hatte ich mir natürlich sofort und gerne gegönnt.2011 wird - gegen den Willen der Mitglieder Rodger Hodgson und Rick Davis - das gefundene Material des mit vier Kameras gefilmten Paris-Konzertes auf DVD und BluRay-Disc veröffentlicht, auf das Fans schon seit über 30 Jahren geduldig oder auch ungeduldig warten. Auch die BluRay hatte mir damals gegönnt.2015 wurde nun das Album 'Paris' mit allen Songs aus dem Paris-Konzert und in der richtigen Reihenfolge als 'Live In Paris '79' mit dem neuen Cover der DVD/BluRay veröffentlicht (schade, da ich den Arc de Triomphe des Original-Cover von 1980 deutlich schöner finde).Als Bonus hängt an dem Digi-Pack noch einmal die DVD-Version von 2011. Da ich nur die CD-Version des Albums aus Mitte der 90er Jahre besitze, war es für mich klar, dass ich nun auch noch diese Veröffentlichung angeschafft und nicht bereut habe, da der Remix/Master deutlich besser ist als meine USA-CD. Das Begleitheft zur CD bietet leider nichts Neues, da dies von Text und Fotos identisch ist mit dem Heft der BluRay-Disc von 2011.Insgesamt ähnelt diese 'Häppchen-Weise'-Veröffentlichung an Alben von Bands wie Jethro Tull oder Santana, die ihre erfolgreichen Alben teilweise in ähnlicher Art und Weise mehrfach veröffentlicht haben. Diese Band-Liste ließe sich fortsetzen.Auch ich selbst mache ja diese Strategie der Musikkonzerne teilweise mit - wie oben beschrieben ' deswegen beklage ich mich auch nicht. Aber im Fall des Albums 'Paris' hätte man auch 2010/2011 bereits das komplette Konzert mit der DVD veröffentlichen können, wie jetzt 2015 geschehen, die ich im Übrigen insgesamt nur empfehlen kann.Wer noch das Glück hat, weder DVD noch BluRay des Paris-Konzertes 1979 angeschafft zu haben, sollte sich die Version vom letzten Jahr kaufen und ist damit audiotechnisch und visuell gut bedient. Von der Musik und vom Sound gerne *****, für die Strategie der Plattenfirma höchstens **.
