Great recipes!!!
I love this cookbook so much. I bought it when it first came out. We live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and a friend from New Orleans called me and told me about it. It's a collection of all the lost recipes from hurricane Katrina. People came together and shared their recipes. It is awesome. I have purchased several for gifts. Buy it, you'll love it.

Reads like a junior league cookbook
I didn't realize this was a collection of people's recipes sent in after katrina. I thought it was a collection of recipes from the Times-Picayune. It reads like a junior league cookbook, sort of like mom's potluck with very little focus. It contains nothing I don't already have in other junior league cookbooks and cost a lot. Very disappointed.

Good cookbook with a little history
Good cookbook with a little history on why the recipe was included. Hurricane Katrina destroyed multiple homes in 2005 and lots of people lost everything to include some of their favorite recipes. So what did they do? They requested the local Times Picayune newspaper to provide some of their favorite recipes in which a book was made. This cookbook has different sorts of recipes from meat dishes, to desserts, and appetizers. This is not an all out southern, cajun, creole , or New Orleans cookbook. If you are looking for those types of specifics then recommend going elsewhere. Recipes are easy to follow.

The ultimate collection of delicious New Orleans style recpices all in one amazing cookbook!
There is a good reason this cookbook has a 5 star review overall, even with 170 review total, it' the complete package and it's full of flavor filled recipes throughout the New Orleans area. Before I start my review, here some basic info about the book:Product details:Hardcover: 368 pagesPublisher: Chronicle Books; Reprint edition (August 18, 2015)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 9781452144009ISBN-13: 978-1452144009ASIN: 1452144001Product Dimensions: 8.4 x 1.1 x 9.5 inchesShipping Weight: 2.3 poundsAbout the Author(s):Marcelle Bienvenu, the "Queen of Cajun Cooking," is a food writer and cookbook author. She lives in St. Martinville, Louisiana.Judy Walker has written a number of cookbooks on Southwestern food and currently lives in New Orleans where she works as the food editor at the Times-Picayune of New Orleans. When Hurricane Katrina came through in 2005, it wreaked havoc on the city of New Orelans, it nearly wiped out everything that makes New Orlean what it is, a culture melting pot. “Cooking Up a Storm” edited by Marcelle Bienvenu and Judy Walker is the compiled efforts of local chefs and amateur cooks to restore the lost recipes. On Oct. 27, 2005, The Times-Picayune of New Orleans started a column based on a reader’s request. The column would work as a recipe exchange where readers could write in asking for a lost recipe or just one of their favorites and then someone would answer with the recipe. This turned out to be a huge success and helped to restore the food culture of a city. This book includes 225 recipes from those columns. As an outsider, it is a fantastic look into the New Orleans food world. I've provided a picture of the Table of Content so you know what all you can expect from this cookbook, I have made a few recipe so far and they did not disappoint. I can't wait to try out many more, I highly recommend adding this stellar southern cajun/creole style cookbook to your collection, it's probably my favorite cookbook right now. Plus, you get 225 great recipes all for under $19, you can't beat that!

One of the most important cookbooks of the 21st Century
I've bought 3 copies of this book over the years since it was published. I couldn't keep the first 2 to myself, so I passed them on to others. The recipes contained in this book were TRUE FAMILY RECIPES that were lost to the Hurricane....and thank you to the Times-Picayune for allowing folks to exchange recipes with their newspaper, so this book was published. IMPORTANT we all never lose our cooking heritage. Let us archive our collective recipes from now, online, so this kind of thing doesn't happen again. What a great book.

Really good cookbook! Great recipes!!
Bought this for my Brother who like Cajun cooking and after he tried a few recipes - i bought a copy for us! We love the recipes and reading up on some of the 'backstories' of the recipes printed in the food section of the Times Picayune Newspaper. The recipe for Toasted Coconut Cookies was sent in by an faithful reader a favor to all of the people affected by the 2005 hurricane. "I'm one of the lucky ones: I didn't lose my house and I didn't lose my treasured recipe collection. I want to share my very best, longtime favorite cookie recipe...I've had it for 40 years, and the recipe card is yellowed and stained form much use."

This Book is a Real Gem!
I absolutely love this book and the majority of the recipes hidden within. This is a real gem!The recipes are just what the doctor ordered: Simple, delicious, and easy to prepare, and most with a short story of where the dish came from, which I also enjoyed very much.Although I am not Cajun or Creole, my husband is, so I have tried many Cajun/Creole dishes, one of my favorites being gumbo. This book is spot-on with simple, unadorned, and spice-infused Louisiana fare... to the more flashy dishes, such as bananas foster, another favorite of mine. The recipes are authentic and true, and my husband agrees! This book truly makes me want to visit New Orleans, if only for the food. I'm not giving my copy up anytime soon. I hope you enjoy this book as much as we have!
