Great coffee!!
I've been looking at the Technivorm for a while now. It went on sale for prime day for $200 down from $350, It would have been worth it at full price. I grind my own beans using a burr grinder and boy howdy does it make incredible coffee. Smooth and balanced with deep rich flavor. It is quick, coffee is ready in about 5 or 10 minutes. Thermal crafe keeps it warm for hours with the screw top lid. Look forward to many years of great coffee. Highly recommend.

Simple to use and makes the best coffee every day!
This machine does one thing and does it extremely well. It's simple to use - just push one button and wait for the light to go off. It has a reasonably small footprint on your countertop and no electronic setup screen to fuss with or fail on you. It's well-built, good-looking, and makes a fine cup of coffee. The instructions give you the weight of coffee you need for the number of cups you are making; if you have a small food scale you can use this information for a consistent brew every day! The coffee stays drinkably warm for hours in the thermos carafe if you change to the sealed lid after you make it. It's not cheap, but if coffee is important to you as it is to me the Moccamaster is definitely worth every penny!

The Best Coffee Maker I’ve Ever Owned — Worth Every Penny and should have bought one sooner
If you’re serious about coffee, the Technivorm Moccamaster KBT is in a league of its own. In the past, I have always purchased coffee makers based on what was on sale at the time. After many years and just as many new coffee makers - I had it with them all - the ones that didn’t last or failed after a year. Buy it once and save in the long run. After using it, I can confidently say this machine delivers café quality results with unmatched consistency. The polished silver finish looks premium on the counter, and the build quality feels like something designed to last decades, not years. The 40 oz thermal carafe keeps coffee hot for hours without burning it, and the manual drip stop basket gives you control over the flow rate — perfect for dialing in flavor or grabbing a quick cup mid brew. Most importantly, the taste is exceptional: clean, balanced, and noticeably smoother than what I’ve gotten from other brewers. Can be adjusted to your taste. ⭐ Pros • Exceptional coffee quality — produces rich, clean, and balanced flavor every time. • Thermal carafe keeps coffee hot for hours without a heating plate (no burnt taste). • Fast brewing — full 40 oz pot in about 6 minutes. • Manual drip stop lets you control flow or pause mid brew. • Premium build — metal housing, rock solid construction, made to last. • Quiet operation — no loud pumps or unnecessary noise. • Sleek polished silver finish looks great in any kitchen. • Full 5 year warranty – If it fails – you get a replacement • Easy to hand wash and clean ⚠️ Cons • Higher price point compared to standard “on sale” brewers. • Manual drip stop requires a little learning for first time users. • Carafe doesn’t pour perfectly unless the lid is aligned just right. • Can be a little tall for some cabinets – though I found it not as tall as the Cuisinart that it replaced • Not dishwasher safe- hand wash ⭐ Final Verdict: 5 Stars The Moccamaster KBT is absolutely worth the investment if you value top tier coffee and long term reliability. It’s a beautifully engineered machine that elevates your daily routine. After owning many brewers over the years, this is the first one that feels truly “heirloom grade.” Highly recommended.

Makes great coffee - fast.
I bought this machine in 2013, and it is still going strong. I've compared it to several other more conventional drip machines, and this is by far the best coffee. The designers put a lot of engineering into getting just the right temperature water to the coffee. Not bitter, but full flavor. You won't find a work of art like the copper water boiler in a typical drip coffee machine. It's very fast, with a hefty power cord and a full 1400 watts. The thermal cafe means you never get burned-tasting coffee if you don't drink the full pot in the first 20 minutes. A few drawbacks. I liked this machine so much I got a second one for use at work. After a few years the vacuum was lost in the thermal cafe, so it no longer kept coffee hot. It was fine for 10 minutes or so. The price of a replacement carafe was outrageous, roughly half the price of the new machine, so I just lived with it. The "Brew-Thru-Lid" is part of the engineering. It maintains temperature, and mixes the coffee as it brews, so the first and last cups poured taste the same. You don't have to remove it, just brew and pour. But the fit to the carafe is marginal. When you put the lid in, you have to screw it to the Golidlocks point - not too loose, not too tight. If left loose, it will fall into your coffee cup when you pour. Try to tighten it too much and it just jumps the thread and goes back to too loose. You have to get is just a bit tight, not too much. This problem is present on both machines I own. The brew basket has a tiny switch for open, closed, and 1/2 open. Don't mess with it. At full open it lets the coffee flow at a decent rate, enough to give the hot water full contact time with the coffee. At 1/2 it barely drips, and fully closed it barely drips. It doesn't seal closed at all. If you overfill the brew basket with coffee, or grind it just a little too fine, the coffee will overflow the paper filter and coffee grounds will clog that tiny valve in the brew basket. It isn't hard to clean, but you usually find out about the problem by finding coffee all over the counter. Like any coffee maker, you should descale it regularly. The easy way to remember is to descale whenever a 100-pack box of paper filters is used up. Despite the few aggravations, this makes much better coffee than any of the drip, french press, and other machines I own. I recommend it.

Best coffee I've ever had! Worth every penny!
Wow. What to say about this? If you like good coffee, and if you are looking for something that will pull out all sorts of subtle flavors the way good pour over does, and you have the money to spend on this, it's well worth it! I've been making pour over for over a year, and this blows those results out of the water. The only downside, for me, is that it makes a minimum of 16oz at a time, and I tend to be the only coffee drinker in America who drinks no more than 8oz in a day. That said, I find this coffee holds up in the fridge better than most other preparations. This is easy to use, so far extremely reliable, and I have not seen any leaking. Get yourself a good quality burr grinder to go with it -- as this device works like pour over, it calls for a coarser grind size than the standard "drip coffee" grind size sold in stores. (I find around halfway between medium and medium-coarse on my grinder is a good place to start. YMMV, of course.) All in all, I cannot recommend the Moccamaster highly enough. This is my first one, so I cannot compare it to other models, but I'd try any of them. This one is worth every penny.

Superb!
I have to say that some of the reviews of this product make me despair of the whole review process. They seem to fall into "no coffee maker should cost this much," or "it's not made of platinum." In either case, my advice is this: don't buy it! For those interested in a review of the thing itself, so you can decide if it's worth the (high) price here it is. My wife and I like coffee. It's one of the day's regular pleasures and we drink coffee every day. So we think our regular use justifies some extravagance. We buy good coffee. For years we used a small plastic Krupps grinder and a Krupps then Cusineart coffee maker. And it was fine. But then I took a flier on a burr grinder--way more expensive than the Krupps grinder (c. $100 vs $25 or so). And it was a revelation!! So then, with some Christmas money in hand we did research and were persuaded by a Cooks' Illustrated review and bought the Technivorm. Wow! My idea of coffee is entirely changed. I get all that stuff about "notes of chocolate," and all that. It is just terrific coffee. What excellent wine is to table wine (and we drink a lot of table wine; so this is not about snobbism). The whole Technivorm schtick is simple: a good pump, and keep the coffee at c. 200F until it comes out the nozzle over the coffee. Who would think it would make such a difference? But it does. The machine itself is perfectly durable, but it's not fancy and is largely plastic, not metal. Whatever. The thermos keeps the coffee hot (if, as the instructions suggest, you rinse it first with hot water) for at least 5 hours. After that you should make a new pot anyway. It is fast, and it is quiet. It makes 10.5 cups, which is a little less than we'd like when company comes (12 is good). The question is, and it's a real question--is this indulgence the way you want to spend your money? And of course, its durability is unproven--we've only had it for a month. But it makes wonderful coffee. If that's really important to you, and you've got the money, then this machine won't disappoint you. ===== A couple of years later: The TV is still going strong, still making wonderful coffee. It has slowed a bit despite occasional white-vinegar treatments. Most notable: the carafe has colored on the inside and has a sort of brown glaze on the bottom. It seems not to affect the taste, but looks a bit grotty. Otherwise, still well worth the money! ======= 13 (!!) years on and still going strong. DO be sure and use both the descaler and the cleaner recommended by the company. I didn't descale thoroughly enough and that might mean the boiler (no pump, as someone kindly pointed out) is less efficient. Another TVMM may be in our future. But that's on me. The cleaner removes a shocking amount of gunk! Still wonderful coffee, quickly brewed and utterly reliable. Some reviews still strike me as foolish but whatever. Most are enthusiastic as positive as is mine—still, after more than a decade!

Exceptional coffee brewer
I’ve had coffee from a moccamaster before and noticed a clean, non-muddy taste like I was experiencing with a vacuum pot coffee maker that I’d been using for many years; same type, not same one, many leaked or broke. Now the last one broke and is not available anymore so I’m making the leap to the KBT moccamaster as I prefer the carafe, to me it’s less items to maintain or have a chance of breaking. I made my first pot this morning and was pleased with the clean, no acidic bitterness, and the non muddy taste. Glad I purchased!! Now to tweak the beans/grind/water amounts to my preference. I do have to say the liquid volumes and measurements are not consistent; 10 cups is 1250 ml and that’s what’s on the water reservoir; but it is not 40 oz; it’s 42.267 oz. It can’t be both ways…yea; I’m an engineer; details matter…if people are weighing their beans or ground coffee accordingly to water volume for a particular ratio; this is when it also matters! Update: after a week of use I’m still impressed with the quality of the coffee brewing; but not with the carafe. The spout needs possibly redesigned? Every time I pour from the carafe something causes coffee to drip down from the pour spout area afterwards, I looked for a small deformation of the plastic but couldn’t find anything, not a game changer, but not impressed with it. Update 14June: very pleased with overall performance of the unit; finally figured out amount of beans and grind level to achieve the desired/similar taste profile I had with the vacuum pot but without the sediment. I did stop using carafe for holding after the coffee was made as the coffee was cooling down after a few hours, I now pour it directly after made into a carafe I’ve been using for years that keeps the coffee hot even at 6-7 hours.

Insanely Overrated
Edit******** changed from 2 stars to 3 stars. The unit can make a good cup of coffee if you're willing to put in the effort. At this price point, effort should not be a requirement, but I don't mind a bit of effort for good coffee. What I have learned : this unit requires a finer grind than typical . On a baratza encore, setting 13. I also recommend closing the drip stop valve for the first 30 seconds or so to get a nice bloom going. The coffee is still somewhat weak, but my leading theory is the filters are too thick. They trap important oils and flavonoids that provide coffee with taste. The moccamaster filters make too "clean" of a cup. Ultimately, I will keep the unit because I like that I can play with it, and all it really does is send hot water over a basket. Not a whole lot to the process that can be blamed on it. Once I swap out the filters with something less aggressive, I think the brew will be really good. I hate to write this review, because I have looked forward to owning a moccamaster for years. Everyone speaks highly of it , whether it be coffee aficionados , cooking blogs, and kitchen appliance experts. My experience calls into question their taste in coffee. First, the unit itself is underwhelming. The plastics are cheap, flimsy, and warped. The water reservoir cover has a huge gap in its side that would allow all manner of debris and bugs into it. The cover is also a cheap and flimsy plastic that warps easily, preventing a seal with the edges of the reservoir. Similar lack of quality can be seen with the coffee basket as well. It's a low grade plastic basket that sits loosely and haphazardly on an equally flimsy bracket sticking out of the unit. The unit itself has a nice finish, and the aluminum paneling feels like good quality. I will say the carafe is great. The best I've seen in a coffee maker. It will keep coffee hot for atleast 2 hours. Now for the real purpose of this review and the reason for such a low rating. The design is fundamentally flawed , and guaranteed to produce a weak brew. As seen in the photo, the shower arm is off center. Only the half of the grounds closest to the unit will get properly saturated. The result is water will oversaturate half of the grounds, and under saturate the other half. The only way to remedy this is to drastically reduce the grind size to slow down the flow, or to manually baby sit the flow stop in order to force it to bloom. Neither of these are desirable. For one, you want the coarsest grind you can get away with when brewing coffee, and two, you pay for an auto drop so you don't have to baby sit it. After much experimentation with different beans and comparing to my Oxo 8 cup, blind tastings have repeatedly proven the moccamaster produces a flatter, weaker and more astringent brew. My guess, the poor design of the shower head leads to only half of the grounds being extracted, and the half being extracted is over extracted. Sadly, I don't feel this unit is worth the fuss. My Oxo was almost half the cost and produces a consistently better coffee. I have no idea why this unit is so highly rated when it's design flaws are plain as day, for all to see and taste. Further more, the material quality is objectively poor compared to rivals. The manufacturer claims this is to ensure their plastics are safe and environmentally friendly, but " environmentally friendly" is just code word for cost cutting at the customer's expense. The best part about this unit is the carafe, which is insanely good. If anyone is curious: I brewed 40 oz water to 69g coffee with two separate beans. I played with the manual flow stopper to induce bloom ( a unit at this price should bloom for you).

A very fine drip coffee maker
There are certain elements of this coffee maker that have been very well thought out. I think the most critical part is the boiler, which is located in the stainless steel tower, which very rapidly brings the water to the precise right temperature for an ideal brew. The second element that really impressed me is the stainless carafe. It's easy to fill and keeps the coffee hot for the duration of my wife's and my long Sunday mornings over a pot of coffee. I've read several reviews saying that the pot lacks thermal qualities and that their coffee got cold too quickly. That was not at all my experience. Most of those reviews were from a few years ago, which makes me wonder if the design was improved since then. Other reviewers comment on the relatively large footprint of the KBT... it's actually more compact and elegant looking than the Cuisinart model we replaced. It is; however, much taller, which could be an issue if placed under a cabinet (not our case). Overall, I really love the look of this machine. The plastic parts are meant to be replaceable over time, which is good to know such an expensive appliance will be supported over the long term. Some say the plastic is cheap. I'm pretty fussy and I think it's okay. Not Red Dot design award great but certainly not an issue that detracts from the package as a whole. Now, the most important part: how's the coffee? It's definitely a lot better than our previous machine from Cuisinart. There's some science behind getting the water temperature just right and using the right ratio of water to coffee. The Mochamaster comes with a guide that I feel waaaaay overstates the amount of coffee to use. I brew Kicking Horse Three Sisters and using the recommended 6.66 double scoops of coffee for 10 cups nearly sent me into cardiac arrest! It's actually recommended to cut the strength with hot water rather than to reduce the brewing ratio but I have backed off the potency to my taste. The point being, this takes some trial and error to get just right for your brew. The one thing I noticed right away is how much smoother the coffee tastes and the absence of the bitterness I used to experience with my old machine. Part of it might be because this machine is new/clean but I suspect it's just a lot better. As the adage goes, you get what you pay for. This machine isn't cheap and value is a very personal measure. For my part,I'm very happy with my purchase. Five-stars to the people at Technivorm for being passionate about brewed coffee. Not everyone wants coffee from a puck! :)
