MOTU M2 USB-C Audio Interface with Ableton Live Lite

So this is an honest review. I've been doing alot if research to buy an audio interface with my own money, so had to find the best one which fitted my budget. I came across the MOTU M2 and checked online reviews for more than a month and went for it....... Off the bat, hands down, this is worth the price. For this price, you're getting amazing Mic preamps (can easily drive a Shure SM7B) , a heapdhone preamp that can easily drive 250ohm headphones, Midi connectivity (which I believe is a must have feature), an amazing display which shows meter levels, and an ON/OFF switch. Plus, you get LOOPBACK!!!! Like seriously man!!! If you're asking, yes it is way better than the Focusrite Scarlett and Steinberg interfaces. I would so its closest rival will be the SSL2, which is an amazing interface itself with preamps on par with the MOTU. In the end, it comes down to preference. SSL is costlier and doesn't give you a MIDI port for that price, which does give the MOTU an edge. Then again, the 4k switch on the SSL gives a different colouration to the preamps when activated. So its more like a draw. There are some other interfaces from Steinberg which have loop back and DSP in this price range, but the preamps are no where close to the MOTU's. If you're someone who's looking for for a good audio interface with good preamps to get the work done, don't think twice my friend, go for it............. and plus, it is very hard to get a hold of this interface because it's like almost always out of stock/unavailable. When I ordered, this was the last piece..... If you come across one, don't let it go!!

This is a fairly versatile audio interface offering good latency. I've had no issues or tracking delays when tremolo picking guitars at 200+ BPM. Just make sure that certain things are set up correctly e.g. some power plan settings have to be tweaked to get the best performance on Windows. This is essential if you are using simulation VSTs like NeuralDSP, AmpliTube, etc. in your DAW. I don't have a microphone so cannot comment on the 48V phantom power. Same goes with the MIDI input as I don't have any MIDI devices. The DAC section is based on the ESS 9016 chip. You will find ESS 90xx chips being used in all sorts of high-end audiophile devices. The 9016, while not a top-tier DAC like the 90x8 series, is decent and the M2's implementation is good enough. While being mostly balanced and neutral sounding, there is some colouration in male vocals and a slight mid-bass boost but nothing to make it sound completely off. Connecting speakers or studio monitors is easy and the preamp does fine. There's adequate headroom in terms of volume. However, it would have been nice to also get 3-pin XLR outputs alongside the 6.3mm TRS ones. Inclusion of RCA for unbalanced output is a nice touch. The headphone output is also fine although I've seen complaints about low volume levels from people using high impedance headphones. The OLED display hasn't been super useful for me as the same information is available on a DAW but YMMV. It looks cool though.

This is the best interface, and its price is also affordable.

The interface is pretty good. I use it for digitising my analogue music on Tapes and Vinyl. It is doing the job very well and the DAC section too is good enough and the S.Q. is pretty Excellent.

I knew this was the best DAC/Mic Pre-amp package for the budget and my opinion still remains unchanged after purchase. The DAC gives a smooth frequency response for the audio played through the hardware. Audio doesn't sound harsh at all and is able to drive higher impedance headphones as well. Its best to buy headphones under 150 Ohms impedance for optimal results if you plan to use it primarily as a DAC. The build quality is phenomenal. I can feel the thickness of the American steel right through my skin. The LCD however could have some sort of a glass protection. The LCD warps the contents in the display slightly when i place my fingers on top of it when its switched on. I'm planning to get some spare glass cover from some wrist watch service personnel so I could stick it over the LCD.

Value for Money

The interface is not damaged or scratched which is good. The original packaging was not complete, nor the manual or original cables. The serial number is already registered so it is impossible to get support from Motu as registering a product is mandatory before tickets or contact is possible. So basicly just the interface, nothing else.

J'ai renvoyé ce produit car il ne correspondait pas à mes attentes cependant il remplie très bien les rôles pour lesquelles il a été conçu avec des fonctionnalités bien pratiques. Pas de logiciels additionnel hormis les drivers - vous aurez accès à tout via la façade du produit (c'est une qualité comme un défaut ça dépend de ce que l'on en attend). Il excelle dans le "live mixing" parole et/ou instruments avec/sans playback. Très simple d'utilisation il monitore en stéréo si vous le souhaitez. Le point qui m'a posé problème est le fait que les 2 entrées sont "couplées" (je suis néophyte un peu désolé), elles ne sont pas reconnues séparément par Windows et les autres logiciels et Motu ne semble pas fournir d'application qui puisse les piloter séparément (In 1-2) - alors que ce que je voulais c'est pouvoir récupérer l'entrée 2 (ma voix) pour l'injecter dans les canaux de conversations (Team, Discord, Messenger...) sans devoir récupérer avec, l'entrée 1 (qui me servait de Line-In pour la switch) OU/ET le Loopback MIX qui prend toutes les entrées + le son du bureau... :). La fonction direct monitor fonctionne à merveille et il est facile et rapide d'avoir une fonction 0 latence. Je pense m'orienter vers la M4 (car je ne souhaite pas spécialement de GoXLR qui serait parfaite pour moi). Je pouvais contourner mon problème en utilisant l'entrée ligne de ma carte mère mais c'est pas super pratique et avoir une carte externe à 200e seulement pour un micro de casque c'était pas super worth. Bref excellent produit : qualité de fabrication, propreté, puissance du son, séparation des alim phantom...
