CARL Professional Rotary Paper Trimmer 18 inch- THE BEST
For years, I had an Exacto Rotary Paper Cutter/Trimmer and I loved it. The blade stayed sharp, the "line" for cutting was STRAIGHT as an arrow but eventually (after 15 years of fairly heavy use), I had to replace it. So, of course, I bought another Exacto Rotary however the style I'd had previously was not available. I bought the closest I could and I hated it the very first cut I attempted. You had to "re-roll" the blade up and down Several times to get a clean cut AND the "line-up" was always off a hair. Did I mention how much I hated it?Anyway, a month ago I got thoroughly disgusted and threw it in the trash. I ordered this Carl Professional Rotary Trimmer and "downsized" to an 18" (which is more than plenty for the crafts I do). At the First Cut; I knew I loved this!! I told my husband how happy I was; literally, I was nearly jumping up and down after the frustration from my previous cutter/trimmer.The "line-up" is perfectly straight. One slice and it's a done deal. Due to it's smaller size (width wise), it is easier to store for more handy access in my office. One of the Smartest touches is the company put a big sticker on the underside of the Trimmer with a listing of any replacement parts, their numbers, and their website address. The instruction booklet that comes with it has their email address, as well. I taped that to the bottom, as well. There is also a compartment under the trimmer to store an extra blade (up to 3) in. Very thoughtful!Quality product. I highly recommend this model of the Carl Trimmer.

Very nice paper cutter for the price!
So far I'm really enjoying my paper trimmer! I have a lot of left over 13" x 19" paper from school and this trimmer does a great job at cutting it down to other sizes that I like to print more often such as 11" x 17", 9" x 12", 5" x 7" etc. anything up to 18" :) the edges are nice and smooth, and it's very easy to line up and cut accurately. I cut a lot of thicker photo paper too for art prints and haven't had any issues with the edges fraying or looking wonky. I've cut quite a bit of paper so far and still don't feel the need to replace the blade or the mat yet, but when I do they have some pretty handy instructions on how to do so. For the price, this has definitely been working super well as a paper cutter! I recommend!

GREAT CUTTER....BUT...
This is a nice cutter and I'm glad I bought it. I do, however, wish the rules inscribed on it were accurate. It cuts straight but using the built in guides you cannot cut a piece of photo paper in half and have it actually be in half. I had to waste paper and mark it myself. Otherwise, it's a QUALITY PIECE. Just once I'd like to buy one that is accurate so I didn't have to mark it all up to actually cut where I need.

WORKS! Cuts paper easily and cleanly where you want to cut it.
I had an old paper cutter that I could not find blades for and finally settled on the Carl. It is a nice looking board and it cuts paper where you think it should be cutting it and it cuts very cleanly. Replacement blade cost is reasonable.

Perfect for my purposes
I got this to replace one that won't cut legal-size paper. In my home office, when not using it I stand it up behind the printer--and this one is lighter than the one I had. What's really neat is I immediately bought spare blades--which my existing one didn't have easily available, probably because it was some off-brand. I got a blade that will create perforations--I really look forward to using that feature! Could have used it about 4 times in the past year.I've used it twice, and it cuts like a charm through even 7 sheets at once. Yes, you have to bear down proportionally, but my current one simply won't. When I work with prints I usually shrink them down to 11 x 17 sheets, and this allows me to quickly trim either side to a decent margin.

This is an 18-inch trimmer
I purchased the 12-inch version of this trimmer years ago, and it has served me well. It is still going strong! However, I recently needed to cut some legal size paper, so needed to buy the longer trimmer. I found this 18-inch version. As soon as I ordered it, I looked at the picture again, and it shows the 15-inch version. So, I immediately canceled the order. But after reading reviews of other trimmers, I decided to buy this trimmer, even if was just 15-inch (still long enough for legal size paper). I was very pleasantly surprised to receive the 18-inch trimmer as described. THE TRIMMER IN THE PICTURE IS NOT CORRECT. I attached my own photo to this review which compares my 12-inch trimmer with the new 18-inch trimmer. The Carl brand has worked well for me, so I was happy to keep my trimmer in the family. The base is metal. I expect this trimmer to last as long as my 12-inch, which is still going strong. The new trimmer has a pocket underneath to store extra cutting wheels. I will be buying some of these shortly.

Great small project paper trimmer
I recently bought a second of this paper trimmer so I have one in each home - winter and summer. I've used it for pictures I print and have to trim, projects, and now that I'm volunteering, I am using it for my volunteer work.I'm a little OCD when it comes to clean straight cuts and this is so much better than cutting with scissors - also a lot faster. It is lightweight so I can carry it into the office I spend a lot of time volunteering for when I have a specific project. As long as I apply the right pressure, it cuts well and cleanly, although I cut only one sheet at time.

it was ..... mehhh
I guess if you only use it once in a while, it will do the trick. If you plan on using it with any semi-regular frequency, move up and get something a bit more sturdy. To make the cut, I had to use more force than I felt I should have for construction paper. It wouldnt cut all the way through. With that, the slide is plastic on plastic and has a lot of friction. On the cutting - its a blade into a soft cutting mat - not a blade across a metal edge to shear the paper. so now you have a cutting mat that deteriorates over time - degrading the quality of cut as time goes on. And a consumable that you have to purchase more often than the blades.
