Time Management from the Inside Out, Second Edition: The Foolproof System for Taking Control of Your Schedule -- and Your Life

Helped me feel in control of my life
I bought this book mainly because I saw it in a Levenger catalog. The approach is wholly different from all of the other time management books that I have read. The author doesn't try to tell you concrete steps to live your life, she shows you a process that will allow you to live your life in control. This is in stark contrast to what I have read in the past, and I found it completely refreshing. As a result, I feel that I am living more in accordance to my big-picture goals, more fully in the moment, and more in control. I have actually been more productive and felt better about myself. The author encourages you to embrace your own psychology and learn how to work with your personal quirks to achieve better time management. That in itself was worth the cost of the book. I plan to reread this book once every so often to make sure that I'm keeping it current in my mind. It's that good.

Make your time management uniquely you
Excellent!!!!! This, and the author’s book Organizing From the Inside Out are a great pair to own; they reinforce each other. Her concept is GENIUS—since everyone is unique each person’s organization of their space will be different—as will the organization of their time. The time management book has a lot of good tips and information to make your schedule reflect your personality and your needs better—and thus work better for you.

Excellent resources, easy to listen to (and read)
The audio CD is easy to listen to in the car, held my attention, great for listening through several times during my commute to keep up my motivation. I also got the book for my kindle. Her approach is sensible, manageable, and thank goodness it has been effective for me, despite a lifetime of struggling with time. Her book on managing space is based on the same principles and techniques and has also helped me a lot. I am grateful to Julie Morgenstern for this two excellent resources.

Timeless Concepts for Finding More Time
In our family and businesses, we have all of her books. The best one we recommend to start with is "Time Management from the Inside Out, Second Edition". This book doesn't focus on material stuff much (for that, read "Organizing from the Inside Out, Second Edition"), but once you have your time organised then everything else is a lot easier to manage. Some of the concepts you learn from Time Management can be applied to stuff, making the other books a lot easier to apply. We love this book so much, we incorporate the concepts it in our company management training as well as at home with our kids. By the end of the first two sections, you really feel like you're on a roll and become excited about getting the rest of your life into gear simply because you have found the time to make it happen. By the time you reach the end of the book, you really feel encouraged and confident simply by having followed through on how Morgenstern guides you through getting your time organised. This book is definitely a game changer for everyone who uses the advice, but you have to actually do it. My family and I highly recommend this book.

This book (and her other book on organization) really helped me change my approach for the better!
I love her books. For me, they pointed me in just the right direction. She says something early on in the book to the effect of, even if I used a third of the ideas, it would radically improve my use of time. That was absolutely true for me! I have a very busy job, and this was just the info I needed. I'd also add that I saw a little video of her talking about the weekends, and it rocked my world, so I'll share it. She said that if you start looking at your weekends as 7 segments (Fri PM, Sat and Sun each with AM - mid-day - PM), then you can fit in what you need to, what you want to, and have free segments. She said it would leave you more refreshed and ready for the week, and that has been 100% right for me. I covet free time so I can read, journal, plan, etc. (read: dork). And this frames it in a way where I don't resent scheduled activities. Highly recommend.

A repeat of her first book, but okay
I found the author's first book, about organization, to be both inspiring and helpful on a psychological level, though many of her practical tips were just common sense. If you never read that book, you will find this one to be useful in the same manner, but if you've read the first, you don't need the second. Essentially, she markets time as a commodity like objects, except it has to be stored efficiently in a day instead of a basket or closet. Her main thesis, which you don't need an entire book to learn, is that you have to know how long a task takes in order to schedule it effectively. Once you have a realistic idea of what you need to do and how long it will take to do it, you should be able to handle your time - unless, of course, there are external, internal or technical obstacles to this. An external obstacle might be working, raising a family, and suddenly having an aging parent to care for. An internal obstacle might be an inability to say "no" when asked to take on yet another task when your schedule is already packed. A technical obstacle might be as simple as not having a calendar (electronic or paper) so you have to rely on your memory for appointments and projects. This book can be awkward at times, since the author is clearly modeling it on her wildly successful first book, from the title to the set-up. Not all of time management fits into the same categories as space and object organization. And, as in the first book, many of the tips she gives are just common sense. Also, some of the advice is a little dated in this economy; hiring someone to do tasks for which you don't have time is not necessarily possible for people who are unemployed or underemployed. Overall, I'd go with her first book and adapt it for yourself, rather than work with this one. However, it isn't a bad book and is certainly easy to follow.

She did it again!
Organizing from the Inside Out is a classic in the organizing industry. I shouldn’t have been surprised that Julie’s time management book is also phenomenal! I love the way Julie addresses both the very practical elements as well as the psychological elements of how we view and manage time. Another great read!

Chiaro e completo

Thorough and practical book on making the most of your time
Really good tips. Over the years I'd stopped using some of my best habits. As a result of this book I got my time manager mojo back. Recommended.

Love this book
Read the first edition, but stopped doing what Julie said, wanted to reread it but found out she had a second edition with 5 extra chapter so I bought it and rereading it all. The only problem with this book, is, there is no magic, and if you do not do a minimum and try her technique it will not happen by magic.
