Nice
The quality of the dust jacket, book cover, and pages is excellent. Before this I've read up what I could find on Buddhism online, but this book is still quite valuable. It has many stories, parables, and teachings that which can't be found online that reveals significantly more about Buddhism, some of which being extremely crucial. I have long said that only holy books can best represent a religion and show its true beauty and I stand affirmed reading this. There are some who say that reading the Majjhima first would be crucial since it explains a lot of the stuff you find briefly touched on in the Digha but from my reading, concepts introduced in the Digha are well-explained and by itself explain the fundamentals of Buddhism and much more. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to seriously talk about Buddhism or know what Buddhism actually is about.

but I love it. The book consists of word-by-word accounts of ...
Repays endless study. I started reading this book 15 years ago, and I still pick it up and read formerly unread parts, as well as re-reading parts I've already read. It may not be for everyone, but I love it. The book consists of word-by-word accounts of lessons given by the Buddha himself. There are several thousand pages of these, in this book and others. For years I thought that Buddhism was something mysterious that you had to intuit the meaning of. I thought hardly anything was directly known of the man himself. I was wrong on both counts. This is a complex book, hundreds of pages long, but it is the first book in the series of books that traditional Buddhists consider their "Scriptures." For someone who wants increased knowledge about the Buddha and his ideas, this is a great starting place. But, I must admit, it takes patience and study - though they are amply rewarded over time.

Lovely Edition
I love this super well-footnoted (there are over 1,000!) translation and the pages, cover, binding etc. are of high quality. Every rare once in a while there is a misprint but painstaking care with the work is what shines through on page after page. There are some beautiful illustrations including, my personal favorite, a likeness of Sariputta. The clarity of the rendering in modern English is making it possible for me to understand passages that were gobbledygook in the hands of past translators. I highly recommend this one if you are trying to work your way through the whole Canon.

I bought it to read aloud in Alexa voice.
Great on Kindle. Such books were preserved since 2500 years ago. Direct Buddha's words. No opportunity to hear Dharma missed. I bought it.

Excellent translation.
While dense, this translation has an excellent introduction, profoundly useful notes and references throughout. As a beginner at understanding the concepts of buddhism, I found this honest and comprehensive translation of the Digha Nikaya of the Pali canon to be a very useful way to learn a lot more. While I still feel I don't understand a great deal about buddhism and the points made by the buddha, but it's only a quarter of the canon and I've only read through the text once so far.

Enlightening
What attracted me to reading "The Long Discourses of The Buddha" was the promise that I would find out more about the nature of Siddhattha Gotama. The Buddha claimed to be neither God nor a messenger of God and was simply living a precious human life. His message was found in the Realization on the nature of suffering and it's causes and the antidotes for cutting suffering's Root. My own experience with the Dharma has found it to be electric and vital. I wanted to compare my own fledgling practice against time and to observe how the Buddha interacted with people. The Buddha represents the true nature of the uncovered mind of any Sentient Being. I wanted this book to show me this and it did. I enjoyed every page and have already began to reread sections.

You should get this if you want to know what the Buddha really taught
I admit it: I find most of the books written by monks interpreting the Buddha easier to read and more "inspiring" than the Buddha's actual words, or what we have available as memories and translations of Buddha's words. However, after sitting down with this book for awhile, I am really liking it. At first it is a little strange, kind of dry. But the more I read it the more I like it. It's as if it was written in such a way that if you open up to it, it just kinda sinks in.I have seen several other such books of the teachings of the Buddha, but this one is my favorite so far. Highly recommended.

Great translation and I would highly recommend.
Well written and translated! This is one of the few Nikayas not translated by Bhikkhu Bodhi, so when purchasing it I wasn't sure what to expect. Maurice Walshe does just as fantastic of a job translating the Digha Nikaya as Bhikkhu Bodhi does on well almost every other Nikaya! I would highly recommend to someone interested in the stories of the Buddha and the guidelines of the Dhamma.

Nice to have the Digha Nikaya on a book.
Contains the long discourses of the Buddha. This group of discourses, in my opinion, have some discourses for which I haven't found an equivalent in the MN or SN, couldn't say if that's bad or good, but in my case due to that I use the DN far less than the MN or SN.One aspect I didn't like so much is the translation. I felt some the Maurice's commentaries kind of atypical. But that's some aspect that caught my attention, I'm not an expert, just notice that.Other than that great.

The Long Discourses of the Buddha: A Translation of the Digha Nikaya
This is one of the important Nikaya Texts. Translated by Venerable Bhikku Bodhi. This text involves one the of most important discourses of Buddha such as Maha Satipattana Sutta, Parinibbana Sutta etc. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to study Dhamma

Perfect
This is as part of the Dhamma the teaching of the great teacher the Buddha, covering the Digha-Nikaya, translated with the most amazing accuracy by one of the most well known Buddhist authors Bhikkhu Bodhi, the teachings are told as a large collection of stories taken from the many lives of the Buddha, these stories are Inspirational, Emotional and very thought provoking, and all of the teaching have at least some application in the modern day with some more then others. I do recommend however reading the book In The Buddha's Words, An Anthology of Discourses from the Pali Canon, this is a good introduction to reading the Dhamma and the returning to one of the massive collections of teachings such as this one.

Très bon livre
Un livre très important: les discours de Bouddha, selon la tradition Theravava, avec de belles traductions du Pali. Je recommande fortement toutes les personnes intéressées par la philosophie bouddhiste.
