Great book to read to learn goethe observation techniques to go deeper into the matter of things, It could be going deeper into the essence of a person to try to see more of that person not just the superficial, go deeper into the observation of one color and pay attention to see how other colors can emerge from that single color. I totally recommend it. It is great for artist or for any person in academic , the art or religion

Mandatory for all Light Designers
This book is "Must have" for all serious Light Designers, for it's content that describes basic fundamentals for all the Light Designers that seriously perform their activities. One can find different editions of this book, so I would recommend the one that has a CD at the back.

Goethe was right, Newton is wrong
Goethe's writings were, and still are, a source of inspiration for me. His "Theory of Colors", however, always puzzled me. Like going over a cliff. Why was he so insistent on Newton's spectral theory of color being wrong? Literally jumping up and down with his vehement rejection of it. So I ordered "Theory of Colors", not knowing what to expect. First on the level of scientific observation, it is a gem. For its times, it's up there with Newton's Principia. Secondly, patiently reading and re-reading the Dover edition of the text with its beautifully rendered color plates, flipping back and forth from text to plates, then back to the text, it finally clicked. A Eureka moment. Goethe was right, Newton is wrong. Visit my website [...] go to my quantum theory page and download, "Quantum signaling with prisms" for a discussion of my surprising discovery and vindication of Goethe. Thank you Dover. Thank you Amazon. -- The Blue Logician

Fascinating exploration of colors
First a note. Goethe's optical theory is well known to be incorrect. Whatever he applies in terms of optical theory, one can disregard. This book is a fascinating look at the world of colors in which we live with the eye for detail of a scientist and the meditative appreciation of a philosopher. The attention to detail is very good. The experiments are reproducible. It's really nicely done. The basic theory that Goethe seems to be striving for is a set of patterns which explain our perception of color in the world around us. His theories are thus almost more artistic than scientific. He looks a patterns in color change, including those in optical illusions relating solely to the eye. In these patterns he finds meaning.I very much enjoyed this book. It helped me step back and enjoy the world a little more.

Poor Formatting
I am giving this book a three star rating for one simple reason and that is the way that the book has been formatted. I should have read it on the IPad, but the very fact that I have to keep going to the back to look at the images, is a pain.Without images, and with a style of writing that is now obviously hard to follow, it becomes a difficult book to read. there is some wonderful material in the book, but the chore of closing my eyes and constantly visualising stuff is too much of a pain.

No vale ni una estrella - not even worth one star
A book about the theory of colour.....that apart from the book cover is totally in black and white!Heavy going, un-inspiring theoretical blurb, with hardly any illustrations. You could quite easily condence any useful information into a book a tenth of the size and I still wouldn't recomend buying it. Quite possibly my biggest ever waste of money.

needs more source material
You'd think for something that was published almost 2 centuries ago would get an update with illustrations and more pictures to go with it. No one has time to visualize "two candles at night opposite each other on a white surface"

Too many spelling mistakes
The electronic version contains too many spelling mistakes. The information is good though. I would recommend another version besides the kindle one.
