The heavy horseshoes knock the stakes over a bit when hit, and in a proper sand pit this is even more of a problem (I suggest using these horseshoes with longer replacement stakes)*Colors are rather similar (bronze and iron). I don't find that to be a problem, but other reviewers mention wanting more contrast. They are slightly hard to spot when thrown in a grassy area, so I can see how brighter colors would be nice.*The coating on these does chip and wear off a bit. Another reviewer complains that they become rough on your hands, but I have not gotten to that point yet.

Very nice set. The shoes feel good in your hand. Nice wood case as well. After playing quite a few games, with the shoes going in the sand and the sun beating on them ,the colors start looking similar and are a little hard to tell apart. I applied a little paint to them to make it easier. Not a serious issue at all. I've bought a Walmart set of horseshoes before and this set is way better.

I've played with other sets before, and this set is definitely worth the extra money!!! The shoes are coated with a heavy duty "textured" finish, which really feels nice in your hand and allows you to get a good throw. The stakes are, well, stakes! Plenty long enough to pound into the ground and keep them sturdy.The only reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is the case. It's just a wooden box. I would have been nice if the box had some sort of form inside of it to hold everything when you aren't using it, but you pretty much just throw the stakes and shoes into the box and slide the cover shut, it doesn't hold anything in place inside of it.That being said, this is a great value for the money, definitely recommend!!!

This is the kit you want. If you built a horseshoe pit in your yard and you want quality shoes that won't break when you throw them then buy this set right now. Take the stakes and put them in the garbage, they aren't long enough to stay put. I built my own backyard horseshoe pits by following instructions from pinterest. What I needed were a good set of shoes that weren't going to break in half if they landed on a hard surface.These are the shoes you want. For the backyard and for the long time, these are the shoes you want.If you're a PRO, look elsewhere, if you're a penny pincher then you'll find that the cheaper shoes on Amazon will break after a game or two when landing on anything other than grass/sand.Get these, you won't regret it.

Can see the wood breaking apart! Which it did for me, where you slide the top piece into. Harder wood for metal products...

I am very impressed on the high quality of forged horseshoes these are! We tried them out for the first time about a week ago and my 17 year old son like to "line drive" them towards the horseshoe stakes. The don't break because that would have broke the other "Made in China" horseshoes that i've bought before. I also am very impressed with the customer service from the St.Pierre company. I mean, I sent them a question and Mr. St. Pierre answered me with a personal email. That was huge and now I'm a loyal customer. I'm having a huge party this weekend, so we'll see how they and I do!

Bought this set due to mostly positive reviews and because it had the storage box. I received the product and the wood storage box was broken and useless. Nice idea on the box, but probably much too heavy to be reliably shipped without damage. I needed the horseshoes for Memorial Day event so I went ahead and installed the stakes and used the horseshoes. The finish literally started coming off the horseshoes immediately, and after only one day of use is pretty much completely worn off. Wishing I would have purchased a different brand. The stakes work just fine and the finish was okay.

Shoes and stakes are good, box is a total piece of garbage. Simply carried it by the handle and the whole box fell apart while carrying. Not worth the price markup for a trash wood box. Thought it would make everything nice and compact for easy organization and transport, no. Better off buying a more durable bag and shoes/stakes separately.
