My son, John beats me at everything, and I'm not sure if that pleases me or ticks me off. One of his talents is pitching horseshoes at picnics and family gatherings. I don't know where he learned the sport. He was raised during a time when touch football, volley ball and softball were the preferred sports of family and friends' gatherings. The sad fact is; to this date he has never been beaten.I say, "To this date" because I am presently in the process of taking the cherished "Family Horseshoe Championship Trophy" away from him this Thanksgiving with the help I received from Amazon.com. The trophy is an authentic, sterling silver Clydesdale horseshoe with "Bud" engraved on the left heel caulk. It has never left his garage.Earlier this summer I decided his reign was over. I decided to whip his butt. I went to Amazon.com and typed in "horseshoes". That discouraged me at first because the variety and choices seemed numberless, but only for a minute. It soon discovered it was extraordinarily easy to navigate the site, compare the features, the quality and prices of the shoes, and even to enlighten my understanding of how a person like me (old) could play the game and win. The set I chose from St. Pierre American Pro fit the bill. The price was reasonable. The shipping was free and it arrived quickly. The product was of excellent quality with nice tough forged steel shoes that fit my hand, easy-to-understand instructions for pitching "ringers" and hints for novices. I set up a course in my yard as per the enclosed rules and have been practicing for about a month.During that time, my game went from watching the errant shoes I pitched roll into the neighbor's garden and across the street into a mail box, to the ability to toss all four shoes to within scoring range of the stake. By the time Thanksgiving Day arrives the instructions tell me I will be pitching "ringers" regularly. Excellent set for my needs. Arrived on time and in excellent condition. Nice hard plastic case keeps everything together nicely. It even comes with a rules book. Have been playing theses shoes couple hours a day everyday since they arrived. They show normal wear and tear from regular use with no hairline cracks or other major issues. The paint on the shoes are very durable and cleans up real nice for storage. The weight feels pretty well balanced and they work fine for both flip and turn pitchers. I live near the ocean and as long as I keep them dry and wipe them down after use the rust is minimal only in areas were the paint has worn or chipped from heavy use. Perfect for family get togethers or tournament play without the price Tag.

When we received the set I was pleasantly surprised how heavy duty it all was. It came in a nice carrying case, although this isn’t something we have used since we have our set always put up in the yard. We set it up the stakes by digging down and using concrete to hold them in place. We put the stakes into large ice cream tubs and then buried those down into the ground and them covered it all with dirt. They still tilt when hit several times by the horseshoe, but that seems to be a set up error by us. The shoes themselves are exactly like the description provided on Amazon. This has been a great addition to our backyard and is still in excellent condition after a lot of use. The set is well worth the price. I would definitely purchase again.

Great set! 4 stars because 3/4 stakes are not regulation. I fixed the stake length problem with a 3/4 paddle bit and a 4x4 that I had laying around. Cut 2 - 15 inch segments and drill hole on slight forward angle in the middle and place stakes in hole. Bury to about 9inches and voilà. also used pieces of 4x4 for caps to protect the pup.

My order for this horseshoe set came just in time for the Memorial Day Holiday. Countless number of games were played over the 3 day period and the stakes and shoes held up very well. My only complaint is that the stakes are only 2 feet long so unless you have them cemented in the ground, be prepared to have to restake them just about after every game as the stakes move and loosen after being hit by a shoe. I plan to cement them in so as not to have this happen. If the stakes were about a foot longer, they could be pounded further in the ground which would make them more stable. But other than that, they were an excellent purchase with a good price, free shipping and lots of fun.

Purchased 3 weeks ago to bring down to the family in Costa Rica and the only downside was the weight, not the most comfortable thing to have on you when traveling, yet it pays off once you are playing with it. We played when it rained, when it was scorching hot, when it was super humid! I must mention that there were terrible throwers that sent the horseshoes flying towards a huge pile of rocks and the damage was minimal. It would have been nice if the manufacturer would have sold it with a carrying case but for the price I think it is very well worth it, you get the feel and strength of a professional set and the satisfaction that this is a game that will stay in your family for long after you are gone. It's a great trade-off!

I'm going to give this a 5 star as the actual horseshoes themselves are great quality, great shoes...I have bought two sets (4 each), the first set many years ago, that are just fine to still use (you do have to re-paint them every once in a while), and the second set, just because I throw more often now and needed a second set...The case is pretty slick to carry them....I never used the pegs as I have my own, but if you plan on using them, know that they are too short...
