I needed to cut a small hole in the top of the casing to be able to run wires into the unit but I assume that's a rare instance.We used it as an over sink light in our new kitchen. There are no two similar shades of white and this was a bit yellower a tone than we'd hoped but that's life. The adjustability of the light direction is excellent so it will throw a nice beam without putting it right in your face when you look up.
