The Good Luck Charm

Pleasantly
I recently read another second chance romance novel that provided an interesting counterpoint to this book. What I liked here is that the female protagonist has to face her own issues and make a conscious decision to pursue a relationship with Ethan again. She had to assert her own boundaries and stand up for herself.Truly there are only a few small quibbles that I had with the plot. The entire scenario about Ethan buying a house and Lilah’s panic attack was trite to the point that I genuinely felt embarrassed at how poorly it was handled. And the half-sister/long-lost father-thing was cringeworthy. Custody, visitation, and child-support exist. It wasn’t like the novel was set in the 1950’s. Furthermore, neither Lilah nor any of her siblings had been minor-age children for at least 8 years without the father ever making contact as he played “father of the year” to his new family.

A second chance romance.
Lilah and Ethan have been best friends since they were six years old. High school sweethearts, Ethan goes off to college on a hockey scholarship with plans for Lilah to join him when she graduates the following year. Instead, he gets drafted by the NHL and dumps Lilah over the phone and they never see each other again. Eight years later, Ethan’s dad has a stroke and is in the hospital where Lilah is a nurse. Ethan takes this chance to be close to Lilah again, now that he’s been transferred to her hometown hockey team. In his eyes they were so good together and he wants that magic back, but does he want it for them? Or to make his hockey career successful again?Helena Hunting really knows how to write sizzling scenes, and the Good Luck Charm has a ton of them. She is also great at emotional encounters, and it’s those that stick with you after you finish reading this romance. It was so easy to love Lilah. When she see’s Ethan for the first time in eight years on the same day her divorce papers are signed she is floored. Ethan was the love of her life and he broke her heart. She is not quick to forgive him and he has to work really hard to win her back.Ethan has also had a tough time, but well, he’s in the NHL so how hard could that be? It is tougher to like him as he was the one that wronged Lilah, but when he reveals everything that was going on at the time and the pressure he felt you kind of understood. The problem was that he wanted to go back to the way things were, and Lilah was not that person anymore.I really enjoyed this book but it was also kind of hard to read. I’ll try to explain. I understood both of these characters, but they wanted things to be the way they used to be and to make up for all that lost time that it shaded my feelings for them as a couple. They were both kind of desperate for each other and that was the hard part to read. When the conflict happened, I thought finally! Let’s get some resolution to that plot line. Which doesn’t mean I didn’t like the book, I did. I just didn’t want all of that handsy glomminess. LOL. I still gave it a four rating though. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Second chance
THE GOOD LUCK CHARM has several things going for it: hockey, reunited high school sweethearts, interfering, albeit well meaning parents, and volatile chemistry. The story is engaging from the start and it was one of those “can’t put it down” kind of books. Also, Helena Hunting is great a creating male hero characters that are hot and lovable, but also imperfect in such a way that leads to a defining moment in their life. Her female lead in this book is so familiar in putting everyone’s needs before her own until something has to give.I really enjoyed the book. You should read it.

New Book Boyfriend Alert!
New Book Boyfriend Alert!Helena Hunting has definitely delivered with a swoony hero in Ethan Kase. Although who are we kidding- she always delivers in the sexy book boyfriend category. The newest release features a second chance love story between the book’s main characters, Lilah and Ethan. For anyone who knows the heartache of a first love lost the story will resonate with truth and consequences of following your dreams. Hunting has the ability to weave beautifully deep and complex storylines while maintaining the sweetness, humor, and sexy times that we have all come to expect and relish in.It was evident from the first page that these characters were created with love and it was impossible not to instantly fall in love with them. The book started with Lilah having a rather challenging morning, and I felt like I was reading my own autobiography with as much as I could relate to her. She was a strong woman that was focusing on her dreams when a ghost- the ghost- of Ethan Kase returned to her life. Ethan is a professional hockey player that was dealing with a difficult time in his career while also dealing with a family issue that brought him and Lilah crashing back together, forcing them each to face their past, regardless of how painful it may be. Ethan had chosen hockey over his relationship with Lilah, and he definitely had to prove himself again to get her to know she could trust and count on him.In true Helena form there are some hilarious moments that made me laugh out loud and some super steamy scenes that made me swoon. There was a big twist in there that just kind of came out swinging, knocking me out with the completely unexpected nature of it and I loved how it worked into the story. The book was a perfect balance of sweet, sassy, sexy and angsty and I did not want it to end. Like at all. Like, I went and reread it.If you fell in love with the Pucked series there is a mention of those sexy Chicago boys, but this book is a standalone. It was like a hug from old friends when they popped up but Ethan is more than capable of standing on his own and he did in a big way.

Ethan & Lilah
The Good Luck Charm surprised me with the depth of the characters; not only does it involve one heck of a second-chance romance but it also delves into the aspects of identity and how it is shaped by our life events especially those of the negative variety.Regret is a powerful demon to live with and it can affect the way in which you conduct all aspects of your life without even realizing it. Which is exactly the situation Ethan faces when he returns to his hometown after eight years away.Following the break-up with his high school girlfriend, Delilah, Ethan’s sports career has taken a nose-dive. He has one more season to make an impression or he could find himself retired before he is 30. His original plan had been to play for his hometown but circumstances dictated otherwise, now he is where he should always have been but without the one person he has compared everyone else to, Lilah.Ethan’s break-up with Lilah completely crushed her, so much so that she never fully recovered from it and has kept her heart safely locked away even during her marriage. I felt sorry for all the parties concerned where Lilah’s failed relationship was concerned however, the heart wants what it wants and in Lilah’s case no-one else can make her feel as much as Ethan.Connected by a family emergency, Ethan and Lilah have to work through all of their emotional baggage in order to move on with or without the other. The Good Luck Charm shows how easy it is to lose yourself in someone else especially when you are nurturer by nature. Fear will ultimately undermine any happiness you are trying to achieve. The most important lessons both Ethan and Lilah have to learn are recognising their independence is necessary to a healthy, thriving relationship. Letting go of their fears and embracing the present, will lead to a brighter future 💕

4.25⭐ Absorbing, Endearing, Poignant and Un-put-down-able
I loved The Good Luck Charm and I'm a huge fan of second chance romance, and hockey players. So this book scored on both of those fronts for me, and although this story is different to Helena Hunting's other books it really worked. As not only was it extremely enjoyable to read. But it was absorbing, endearing, poignant and well paced. Plus, it had a fantastic mix of light hearted moments, heat, emotion and sweetness. And I loved the connection and chemistry between Ethan and Lilah. Which was from the start, and only got stronger as this story progressed, and I was completely hooked throughout.. Which is why I would happily recommend The Good Luck Charm to others. Especially to anyone who loves a good second romance. And I really hope HH writes more of these types of stories in the future.

Well worth the read!
“The Good Luck Charm” was a second chance romance that was both swoony and steamy. It contained a story that I was fully invested in and kept me turning the pages. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novel. Ethan & Lilah were a couple that I was rooting for from the first chapter and I was a little sad when I turned the final page. Recommended, especially if you love this trope.

Loved it!
Helena has produced a perfect hybrid of rom com & angst. Lilah & Ethan are a great couple but their reunion isn't plain sailing, there is a lot to work through, trust to rebuild and family issues to deal with. Lilah is wary at first and as their story progresses we find out there is more to this than a heart that was broken. But with all that has happened is a happy ever after guaranteed?
