Exceptional product.
I've always liked this show, and am rather happy to have found a season dvd of it, it plays well there is a small mis labeling on the disks so can get a little confusing as to which did is which but I'm not worried. The sub-titles are almost perfect in translation. For anyone who is considering watching this I must note it's not particularly a beginner's show but is really enjoyable none the less.I had a few issues with jumping and freezing on the last episodes on the disks however I believe it was trouble with the dvd player which I haven't used in a while not the disk.

Great series, not so good subtitles
First, I'd more or less have to give 5 stars to the series. I've watched it so many times on Netflix I've lost count. I've read the light novels. It's my kind of show. I bought this set of disks because it has the movie which I hadn't seen yet. The movie is non-cannon: it's an original story based on various events from various parts of the light novel series. Oddly, this would slot into the TV series after the events of season 2, which hasn't been released yet, in any format. I won't review the series or the movie: I enjoyed it all and there are bound to be better reviews available out there. Also, at the end of the third disk they've tacked on three of the 'Magic School for Dummies' series of animations which were made to fill in some of the gaps in the background of the series. There are actually six of these, each an explanation of some aspect of the world presented by chibi versions of some of the main characters. Funny and informative (but you can see all six on YouTube by searching for 'Mahouka for Dummies'). Nice addition that's not mentioned in the product descriptions. On to the bit that's not so great. Subtitles. One, there's no dub, so if you hate subtitles, you're out of luck. Second, every version of this series I've seen has problems with the subtitles! The Netflix one has so many typos in the subs that I wonder whether anyone actually watched the thing after it was produced. However, it assiduously translates any Japanese text you can see. This version has fewer typos, but almost none of the written stuff is translated. Interestingly, the film's subtitles do include text translation. I guess you can have proofreading or full translation, but not both. Also, two of the disks are 'Disk 2,' the menus are badly designed, and getting the subtitles to stick appears to be impossible. Those are minor problems.Basically, great series, fascinating world, and insurance in case Netflix stop running the series.
