Proper hardware required for best experience
I had to dust off my 10 year old sound card with a proper driver with equalizers. I started out with the built in motherboard sound card and wasn't very impressed with the sound quality until I remembered I had an old SB X-Fi Titanium I bought in 2010. After hooking everything up, the sound quality is astounding. Before the sound card change, it was difficult to notice the difference between my cheap gaming headset and these; now there's no question.I can finally justify downloading 100MB+ songs. I've got a bunch of old .dts files and some other 5.1 music that sound incredible on these. Also just regular hd streaming video and music sounds much better. The detachable cord is really great, being able to switch which side the cable is plugged in is very convenient.I'm pretty rough on my equipment and these seem like they will stand the test of time. The ear cushions could be a bit bigger, after a few hours my ear lobes start to hurt a bit, but that may be a sound quality verse comfort level thing.edit: I'v since had a slanted third party review these connected to a mac book pro headset port vs the PC expensive sound card, and the PC won over a 20+ year MAC fanboy.

Know what sound you are buying...
When you buy this headphone, know it is tuned FLAT. If you are used to a lot of other popular consumer headphones (particularly other V-MODAs) these will probably sound woody and dark to you. The bass is light, and there is not really any "sparkle" or "space" in the higher frequencies. I have to say I was disappointed by the sound out of the box, and for many genres end up equalizing it to a slight V (maybe +\- 3 db) which I find more enjoyable. The imaging and detail is pretty good, although I have heard better from other headphones. I suspect the slimmer form factor might negatively contribute here. But they do have a pretty decent soundstage compared to most other closed back headphones I have tried.Overall these are great headphones with a little tweaking, but unless you know you like having a flat response or enjoy equalizing everything, I think you would be better served by other choices.

DO NOT BUY - POOR QUALITY EAR CUSHIONS AND NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT
STAY AWAY FROM V-MODA. THEIR PRODUCTS ARE LOW QUALITY AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NON-EXISTENT.I purchased these headphones back in September as my first pair of V-MODAs. I read the reviews, thought it would be a good buy despite comfort complaints, and pulled the trigger. IMO, they were the perfect headphones for what I needed. Amazing sound quality, big sound stage, neutral EQ, and passive NC enough to get my work done. After 6 months, the ear cushions are now coming apart. The glue that keeps the fake leather around the foam has come undone and now the foam is exposed on the inside of the ear pad. I sent two separate inquiries to the V-MODA support team on their website with 0 response. I already had issues with their other product, the Boom Pro, which breaks every year. For SOME REASON, I thought their higher end products, a pair of $350 headphones, would come without the cheap parts and be longer lasting. I was completely wrong. This will be my last pair of V-MODA headphones or any of their products because I'm tired of paying into a company that obviously doesn't care. All they need to do is come out with replacement earpads like they have for the M-100 and other series, but I guess they'd rather just have customers buy new cans for $350 just like their low quality boompro business model.STAY AWAY FROM V-MODA. THEIR PRODUCTS ARE LOW QUALITY AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS NON-EXISTENT.

Know what you're getting
Okay so let me start off by saying these are built like all other vmoda headphones so if you've bought before you know what you're getting, however if not they're built like tanks mostly metal construction and a leathery type material for the headband it kinda reminded me of the way a seat in a car feels but a tad more rubbery the sheilds are solid built metal they feel like they'll last awhile and the only plastic on the headphones are on the cups themselves and a cool feature they've added are the ear cups are completely magnetic and can be removed easier than previous models . They do come with 2 cables aswell one with a mic and one without both are very high quality and honestly don't tangle very easy from what I've used them and feel like they will last as long as the headphones. The case is in the v moda fashion however a little less on the exoskeleton alien vibe in my opinion it still has that look dont get me wrong but more toned down I'd say.Sound qualityNow heres the most important part of a set obviously the sound and do these live to that studio headphone label I've used alot of sets of headphones in my life from Sony , bose , and essentially everything in between. These are flat and by flat I mean they is nothing enhanced at all they're colorless and dont leave anything to the imagination as a good set of studio headphones should do. Now dont go buying these to run mp3 formatted songs because they will sound harsh and cluttered and just really unpleasant if you're going to get these you need to run flac wav or or uncompressed formats of those styles they do work well with things like tidal and other hi res streaming however dont go thinking pandora is gonna sound like studio. I've ran these through vigorous tests and songs and I have yet to find a genre that they cant handle and for people saying they have a lack of bass I would say no it's not forward as like I said nothing is enhanced but on an uncompressed song I ran that had a great deal of it and it had a very deep and solid extension well into the low end but still not over bearing and without bleeding into anything else and everything where it should be.So should you buy them?If you have the time and uncompressed songs or you need a set of unforgiving headphones for editing or studio use absolutely these are perfect for those categories and definitely carry their weight to justify the price
