It lasted.
This router was okay. I don't like D-Link for many reasons. I've had one die. I've worked on another that was still "supported" by D-Link but had not been updated for years. It had constant drop issues because the router couldn't maintain time. I've had a D-link wireless adapter that was a dud out of the box and D-Link support said they would call me about it. That never happened. So, I'm a bit sour with D-Link for many reasons. To be fair I've had a Netgear router just die on me.This router worked for me for a few years, but it was a mediocre product I would say. The wireless was supposed to be "extreme" but its coverage was less than a single Wireless-N router I recently bought from Linksys. It was just a cheap replacement router for this one, because the plastic piece on the inside of the power adapter came out and I could no longer hook up my router. Funny enough I can't find a replacement for it. The one that is on Amazon actually doesn't match the specs for the router and would eventually cause problems I'm sure (the reviews seem to agree with me). I went to Radioshack to see if they carried a match and the associate there couldn't help either. They didn't seem to have a matching part anyway. D-Link didn't have anything like this either. Contacting their support would likely be a futile process again.Either way I wouldn't use it again now. The cheap Linksys router works much better than this one anyway.

Absolutely Pitiful - Laptop adapters connect at 54Mbps ONLY! Confirmed by Tech Support!
Everyone checks the wireless signal strength when using a wireless connection but I'm not sure if everyone checks their connection speed. I've used Netgear and Linksys N routers in the past and I've never had problems. I wanted to upgrade to a gigabit router with USB printserver capabilities so I looked at the DGL-4500.Long story short: If you don't have a D-Link wireless adapter on your desktop or laptop, you'll most likely connect at 54Mbps (G) even with N adapters. This is confirmed by D-Link Tech support. They apparently they get calls on this all the time because the guy knew my problem before I finished telling him what it was. Nice, eh?I have three laptops in my household that all connected to my old Netgear WNR2000 at 130Mbps. They now all connect at 54Mbps with this D-link router.Three words: It's going back.I'm getting the Netgear WNDR3700 and saying "Goodbye" to D-Link for good. I can understand getting "better" performance when pairing up product brands but this situation doesn't even allow non-paired brands to even work as they should. What's the point of having an N laptop that can't even connect on N?That's just poor.

ehh, it works...
For a gaming router they really don't make port forwarding easy. I like my Cisco-Linksys WRT600N a lot better because it offered many simplified port forwards/ranges/triggers. This D-Link doesn't even have offer enough settings to forward both my xbox and ps3, much less my pc, skype, and slingboxes. I guess they consider it a gaming router because it offers priorities for various IPs, so if that's all you need then this might work for you. Also it doesn't appear that the DMZ works right cause I get nat type strict even though I put the IP in the DMZ I still had to turn UPnP on, but my other routers work fine. They are phasing this out for a new model, so I thought I'd see what kind of quality D-Link had to offer before I considered the newer model. They had several years to get this one right, and never could, so I'm sticking with Cisco-Linksys from now on.

Small and Mighty
I purchased this router as my household outgrew our 7 year old Linksys router. Surfing the web had become as slow as cold molasses and we have a Broadband connection. Though I had no problem at all over the years with the Linksys router, after careful review on many sites, I decided to purchase this D-Link router. After reading some reviews of most 'N' routers, I was worried about dropped signals. Supposedly most N routers are indeed faster but are susceptable to dropping the signal often. I wound up reading many reviews of the D-Link router and was finally satisfied that I had found the one. This router is not only sleek but it has no problem handling my household's wireless, as well as wired, needs. Now, we may not have the most technical home out there but we have the following connected at all times: 3 laptops, 1 desktop, 1 wireless printer, 1 wireless XBox Live, 1 Wii Network, and a home phone connection. This is all besides the occasional DS and Palm Pilot connection. I barely get a hiccup now much less a total disconnection. I'm very happy with my purchase.
The D-Link DGL-4500 GamerLounge Xtreme N Gaming Router offers decent performance and a long list of features for home wireless networking and hardcore gamers. However, it lacks support for simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands along with random resets during heavy loads. You may want to wait for a successor to the DGL-4500, or at least a firmware update, before buying it. With the hefty price tag of about $180, we expected better stability. Unless you plan to take advantage of the DGL-4500's GameFuel feature for prioritizing bandwidth for games, we still recommend D-Link's DIR-655 Xtreme N router for its superior performance or the Netgear WNR854T RangeMax for its speed, stability, and price

Router that fails to do it's job.
My experience with this router has been an awful one. It constantly drops connection and randomly reboots. I couldn't host any games online and was always getting dropped from MMOs as well. The display as I see it is completely useless and will most likely be rarely used, its a novelty at best. Looking around online confirms that I am not the only one with these issues. The fix that seems to help some people is rolling back the firmware to version 1.15 or lower, but this did not improve the performance for me. I wound up looking for a replacement. I suggest staying away from this D-Link and looking for something else. I replaced mine with an Apple Airport Extreme. I did not originally consider it but the reviews were stunning. I now own one and the difference is night and day. The build quality is excellent. The LED indicator is actually useful, and it was very easy to set up. It has been by far the most reliable router I've owned.

Mediocre when it worked.
I have had this router for just over a year and a half. It did what it had to despite having very dated firmware. The 5GHz band worked well and was fast for about a year, for the past six months it has been intermittently reseting. Turning off spontaneously and powering back on. The problem only worsens when using the 2.4GHz band. The router resets multiple times a day under even the lightest use. This was my first D-Link router and from the experience I think I will go back to using a Linksys, even if it is Cisco now.

Looses contact constantly !
For the price paid for this router it should have performed much better than it actually did. It was easy to set up but looses contact with my computer and the gaming server constantly.
