These were bought for making preserves, where you hang some parts of the fruit in the boiling syrup. For that, you need muslin, which is a 'finer' fabric than this - in that the threads are thinner. These are good sturdy bags and will fitted for their stated purpose, and if they'd been listed as calico bags, I'g happily give them 5 stars. I just don't need calico. Ever the optimist, I washed them and tried one for the job, but it wasn't a success. sigh.
