It beats the 100 year old ammeter in my car
Early cars had an on-off cutout that kicked in when the generator made more than six volts. It was up to the owner or mechanic to set the charging rate several times during the year.. Too high and you boil the battery; too low and you’re stranded in the winter. My generator has a sliding third brush to set the maximum charging rate. Thankfully voltage regulators are available now that look like the original cutout. To avoid frying the electronics inside them, the manufacturer tells you how to set the generator brush. One way to do this is to have an assistant watch the ammeter on the dash and yell your progress to you. My way to hook an ammeter on the generator post and read the amperage on this more accurate meter.I am pleased with my purchase and offer this photo which is in accordance with schematics others have provided.

Nice, simple ammeter and shunt
Meter appears well-made and works as it should. it measures the difference in voltage across the shunt which allows it to measure the DC current.

How about a mounting templet?
Used to replace a twist of 10 gage wire and a voltmeter. Much neater. Mounting the meter requires making your own templet and buying the correct hole saw. I now have a small assortment of hole saws. Ouch!

Simple to hook up if you know how
The shunt bar is to be hooked up in series with the load, that is to say the shunt bar is to be inline with the power source as if it were a inline fuse. All of the current in the circuit flows right through the shunt bar NOT the meter. The two connections on the meter are then connected to the shunt's two terminal screws. if the needle pegs in the 0 direction, the two wires are backwards.

almost no instructions
I wanted to replace the ammeter in an older battery charger which appeared to meter the AC input rather than the DC output. A brief test pegged the ammeter. A resistor was included but, as stated earlier the instructions were severely lacking and little was found online. I freed up the original ammeter and tossed this in the trash rather than trying to get a refund.

Nice to have
Using two of these on a solar panel to measure input amps and load amps

Miss marked
These items are not full amp or volts. They are mini amps.
