Finally, a device like this that sounds great-- and at such a great price
Roland gets it right-- again. I waited through decades of product evolution in the multi-effect market, seeing things go from hybrid analog/digital to all digital with ASICs and now to what seems largely software sound processing before deciding to update from my old A/D hybrid. I'm glad I did.Things Roland got right with this:1) It's available as a tabletop unit, not just a foot controller. Floor units aren't something I feel I've ever wanted or needed; I'd rather punch buttons, read displays, and tweak things with a device closer to my level when standing-- and since I don't usually change patches during songs it's a better physical format for me.2) It has amp simulations that cover an agnostic range of tones (favoring neither metal nor classic rock nor rockabilly, etc.), and some of them are almost as good as my Hughes and Kettner in terms of tube sound. There are plenty of useful parameters to play with and it's not difficult to get a great sound in fairly short order.3) USB connectivity means patch editing and management has never been easier. Use your computer to organize and edit sounds much easier than from the front panel of the unit.4) You can also do anything the computer GUI will let you do through the simplistic front panel controls-- a computer isn't a necessity to get everything you can from the device. The controls are few, but the logical, intuitive menu system and quick-access softkeys make things direct and simple in terms of editing every parameter for a chosen patch.5) In addition to just about every effect you'd expect (stereo delays, chorus, flange, phase, harmonist, pitch shift, OD, distortion, reverb, eq, compressor, noise gate, panner, wah, etc.), it includes some nice envelope effects such as the Defretter (simulates the wowing, growling attack of a fretless instrument), Slow Attack (automatically simulates the pseudo-violin sound you get from swelling the beginning each note with a volume control), and an e-Sitar simulator (does what it sounds like; emulates an electric sitar. All very useful, musical options beyond the standard auto-wah.6) It has selectable output modes that shape the final sound optimally for whatever follows next in your chain. In other words, you can shape the overall contour of the output signal to suit a guitar amp, PA, recording device, etc.so that you get the most from the unit's cabinet and amp emulation features. Some things Roland could do better:1) Inputs and outputs are on the sides of the unit. All in the back would have been preferable.2) The auxiliary control input allows for a footswitch OR an expression/volume pedal-- not both. It would be handy to use both external devices at once.Overall a great buy with excellent sound quality and plenty of useful, musical effects. The included presets are decent, customization is practically unlimited and there are 100+ user spaces for your custom effect chains and variations. I quickly grew attached to some of the subtle and unique sounds this thing can make so I would buy this again in an instant if something ever happened to it.Roland has always come through for me with quality, features, and value.

I love this thing….
The armadillo is pictured because I dislike that this app forces me to add a picture to write the text review.Onward, I can’t stand option paralysis and tweaking paralysis - it’s overwhelming and frankly I really just want to play. It’s why I have stayed analog and use real amps and cabs and all analog effects. I’ll likely NEVER use modeling or digital stuff in a gig context, even though it does sound good and is extremely convenient - I’d rather use the real thing and not a clone. Now then, this little table top unit from Boss is fantastic at home. It lets me play with all kinds of effects that I would never use on a gig and satisfy my curiosity. To me, it also sounds fantastic in my quiet home context…some of the tones I can quickly get really kinda blow me away and are plenty inspiring….I co-opted 4 of the factory presets and tweaked to my tastes and made a preset for each of the 4 push buttons. Clean, semi and a couple of the Van Halen sorta ones…I can adjust to my liking…to me it sounds killer through my crappy little home setup and does absolutely everything I need it to do for practicing. I built a an angled wood platform for it so I can easily see the display from my position in my desk chair…I pipe it straight into some cheap little powered desktop speakers and I am good to go for hours…I don’t have Van Halen style Marshall’s or 5150s so I can’t compare, but whatever they sound like, they sound great in the gt-001. I do have rectifiers, marks and an uberschall and I feel the models are close enough for my entertainment - I have not compared directly.,..they sound so good on the gt-001 that I don’t care. For my needs and tastes this thing gets a 10 out of 5…or maybe an 11 🤣 highly recommended.

Quiet, no noise, no bad surprises.
The good: It is a good effect processor, makes no noise at all, and it has quite a lot of possibilities. Also it sounds very powerful. The bad: The control knobs. So far they are working fine, but i personally prefer buttons instead of these wheels. They usually start to fail after a while and its a pain in the ... to get them fix.

Great value for the money
Excellent device for the size and if you don't have the cash to spring for the Boss floor model effects boards. Easy to use with a ton of presets that are all editable on your PC or laptop once you install the Boss Tone Studio software and drivers. Enjoy the vocal effects as well when you plug in a XLR mic and use the vocal presets which you can also edit. Have used this straight into my DAW to record with. Only one downside is that you need to purchase or already have the USB connector that links the effects processor to your PC or laptop. As that is an extremely inexpensive item, I felt it should have been included. Luckily, I already had one from another effects board, so I was good to go.

Very good - as expected
I own the GT-100, which I use for rehearsals and gigs, and this is actually a small table top version of the GT-100. Very convenient at home and for recordings. Same PC interface - all the patches are transferable by the USB connection from one device to another, no need to create them twice. Once you have created a patch, it can be used immediately on the other device.
