Exceptional Performance and Value
I received my OrcaTorch D550 just in time to pack it with my dive gear and head out to the British Virgin Islands for 2 weeks diving. It was a great opportunity to see how this brand-new torch would stand up to the rigors of daily boat dives.I confess that I have had some awesome dive lights in the past, but from the moment I opened the box I was immediately impressed with the completeness of the kit, but especially with the build quality! It came in a sturdy case complete with 2 batteries, a charger, bolt snap, lanyard, a goodman style wrist mount and even includes a spare set of o-rings. The light uses triple o-rings to ensure watertight integrity. Although I did not use the wrist mount for this trip, I tried it on and was pleasantly surprised that it fit evan my large hands with no problem. The compact size of this 1000 lumen torch makes it the prefect light to carry on all dives. I snapped it onto a D-ring and it went everywhere my BCD went. Its sturdy aluminum construction had no problem dealing with getting banged around daily while switching tanks and the end of the day gear rinse. The D550’s light beam is perfect for most subjects, even in the day, to light up cracks, ledges, and exploring wrecks. The beam features a narrow 8-degree center spot and a wider 70-degree general reach. There are 2 intensity settings plus a strobe mode all controlled by an easy-to-use magnetic switch located on the end of the light where it is out of the way of accidentally getting turned on.The battery life was equally impressive. I used it extensively on the high setting for many of my dives (especially on the many BVI wrecks) and on sites like Painted Wall to make the colors absolutely pop in brilliance! Admittedly the batteries were new, but I had no problem exceeding the 2-hour advertised burn time. The batteries were also fairly quick to charge, but I really appreciate having the 2nd battery so that one is always ready to go.OrcaTorch did a great job with the D550. At less than $100, it met and exceeded all my expectations as an everyday carry dive light and as a great backup light for night diving. This torch is definitely “a keeper” and has earned a well-deserved place in my permanent dive kit!

Great for Lobstering!
I needed a new light for my yearly mini lobster season. I decided to try this one out as it was a lot cheaper than some of the big brand torches out there. To start off with, for the money, this torch comes with everything you need to get started. It comes with 2 rechargeable batteries. 1 battery lasted me 2-1 hour dives. The torch also comes with a wrist mount strap. I played around with it once I got the light. Due to lobstering and sticking my hand under rocks and into holes, I elected to not mount this to my hand. I will probably use the mount when I go on my Caribbean dives. Along with the wrist mount, there is an included tether that you can cinch to your BCD or your wrist. They thought of everything that one could want with a torch. One of the features that I was looking for was a push button option. My other dive light is a twist. I like being able to push a button when needed. My other torch is a pain because you twist it, and then you may have to slap it to get it to light up. The Orcatorch was simple to press and was ready at a moments notice. Another feature is at the butt of the torch, there are holes to tie tethers to. I used a retractor to attach to my BC.I have one of the "Blue" lights that I use on all my lobster dives. When I turned the lights off in my house, I compared the beams. The Orca was definitely brighter and had less light bleed. During the dives, I could literally shine a light into a hole 10-15 yards away. It was nice to shine my light and see the reflection of the eyes. For the money, this was half the price of the big names and so far has lasted 4-1 hour dives. I liked it so much I recommended it to my dive buddy and he purchased one, as well!

The Best "Bang" for Your "Buck" in a Dive Light
The media could not be loaded. I just purchase my second Orca Torch D550 dive light after having my first one for well over a year. I needed a backup dive light, and considered alternatives, but decided that another Orca Torch D550 was the way to go since I have had such good luck with my first one. I have to say that this has been the most reliable, easiest to use and best value dive light I have owned in over thirty years of diving. You cannot really beat the value either. For less than a hundred bucks, you get a high-quality dive light, two batteries, a charger, a wrist strap, a stainless steel clip, a “hands free” flash light glove and extra O-rings. And all this comes in a nice little case to keep it all together. The light itself is more than adequate for lighting up crevasses, holes, and caves, and even lighting up something of interest to show your dive buddy in bright conditions. It has a spotlight beam, but still lights up a good size area, and it seems to have the right glow for underwater.I use the included wrist strap and the glove. I find having the light on the back of my hand makes it readily available but does not mean that I must constantly hold on to the light. One issue I did have was that the light would slip out of the glove occasionally, yet still be secured with the wrist strap, while doing a giant stride entry or a shore entry into rough surf. This was an easy fix. What I did was I attached a zip tie to the rear end of the light, secured it tight and clipped off the excess. (I included a photo for reference). I have yet to have the light slip out of the flash light glove after putting on the zip tie.I sometimes forget to charge the light before each dive and have yet to have the light die on me during a dive and I am constantly using the light during the dive. I do, however, always have the extra battery with me, fully charged, just in case I need to swap it out during a dive interval.I have had the light down to around 115 feet many times with no issues. I have not yet needed to use any of the four spare 0-rings that come with the light. The light seems to be very watertight and durable.I like that it has a push button switch on the end of the light. Unlike other lights I have used in the past with slide switches, switches on the side and twist type switches, I have not had a problem with accidentally having the light get turned on or off. This is also much easier to turn on and off with gloves on as well.I feel that this dive light is a great value and would even recommend getting an extra one if you are looking for a back-up. (One nice thing of having two identical lights is that the batteries and accessories are interchangeable).Bottom line is that I am incredibly happy with my purchase and am happy to recommend this light to others. You can not beat the value.
