Nice scent; thin consistency; OK cleaning
I have mixed feelings about this face cleaner. I do like the scent -- it has the characteristic scent of tea tree oil, which is one of those 'love it or hate it' types of scents. However, it balances that with other botanicals, making it more appealing than the usual tea tree oil-based soaps. Even those in the household who dislike the scent of tea tree oil found this reasonably appealing. The soap itself is a very dark color -- sort of a midnight purple hue. The consistency is rather thin, and more is needed per use than I expected given that this is a "premium" priced soap. The soap is dispensed via a push down rocker which is not all that convenient, and also makes it more difficult to dispense a measured amount compared with a pump dispenser. It does not lather all that well. It does rinse pretty easily. It's an effective cleaner but doesn't moisturize all that well, leaving my face dry and tight after use.Weighing all the pros and cons, and factoring in the price puts me at 3 stars (average). It does work and has an appealing scent, but there are more cons that I expected for a premium product. While it is something that I will use (only every other day given the lack of moisturizing) it is not something I'd get again -- there are other products in this price range that perform far better.

Not my cup of tea just yet, but it does cleanse the skin well (read)!
This facial cleanser is just OK for me. I find it a bit thick and hard to wash off of the skin’s surface, to get to the squeaky clean feeling of freshly cleansed skin, which often takes me some time as it is, as greasy as I am. It DOES cleanse well though, don’t get me wrong, but I haven’t seen any miracles, as of yet.It also has this ‘not so pleasing’ scent to it. I think that is tea tree oil, which is usually very over-powering on its own, so in this product, it’s not nearly as bad, but it does come through. I’m not a huge fan of that.My complexion doesn’t get red or overly tight from this, like my normal ‘oil-stripping’ cleansers, which means it is more gentle and not over-drying, which I think has been an issue with my skin care routine for years now.I still have more, so I will keep up with it, and hope to see some glowing, younger looking skin!

this is great for the acne on my back AND face
this is great for the acne on my back AND face, but it does dry out my cheeks a bit, because I only have acne on my chin and forehead, but its mild. However this is great for someone with severe acne

Super Drying
Although this cleanser is described as good for normal-to-oily skin, I'd advise only those with oily skin to use it. It dries out my normal (but sensitive) skin so that I feel like I had an instant face lift -- my skin is uncomfortably taut. I have to slather on the moisturizer post-cleansing just so my skin doesn't burn from dryness. The cleanser is a sooty gray color with bits of activated charcoal. The astringent formula is probably excellent for those with oily skin. It just isn't right for me.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Love the scent but not good for my dry sensitive skin
I am in my late 40's with dry, sensitive skin made more so by my employment as a swim instructor and coach. This is a small bottle (4 oz) for the price (currently $17). The bottle is amber plastic which should protect from light damage, and the lid is a pop up squeeze bottle that allows you to dispense exactly what you need. It was sealed on the inside so you will know if it has been tampered with.Things to know -- at first I was taken back by the black shampoo consistency, but it lathers up just right into a greyish purple color and doesn't stain hair, face, tile or clothing. A little bit goes a long way . . . I didn't even need a dime size amount to do my face and neck. It smells amazing. LOVE it . . . but if you are at all sensitive to scents you will want to give this a hard pass. It was slightly more difficult to rinse than I like in my facial cleansers. The problem I have is that I found it VERY drying and I had redness on my face and neck after using it. Strangely enough, the worst spots were my Tzone. The next morning my face peeled. I will not be using it again.I gave it to my teenage daughters to try. They have typical teen skin . . . they found it slightly drying and love the scent. They did not see an improvement in their acne. At this price point I will not be repurchasing.
