FUZZ a review in short story form
I had been eyeballing this pedal in a local music store for probably a few months at least. It even got a nice discount tag attached to it eventually and then I really started to drool. It was one of those 'shiny' things that just caught my eye and seemed so cool. Not distortion, not overdrive, but FUZZ! I'm somewhat old-school, and I think perhaps the 'idea' of fuzz more than anything had me pretty jazzed about this product (I had never owned a fuzz pedal before). Nonetheless, I procrastinated and didn't buy it right away. But one day I finally made up my indecisive mind and I drove down to the local music store again, this time with the full intention of buying (or at least ogling one more time) the cool silver pedal. Much to my chagrin, another customer beat me to the display case by a mere couple of seconds I tell you. This is a small local store with a modest clientele and I have to say that I felt somewhat shocked and even a little disbelieving as my fellow guitarist took the pedal from the case and with the assistance of a sales person, proceeded to demo it on a nice Vox tube amp. "But I was going to buy it, right now..." I thought to myself as the other customer proceeded to shred on the too-cool pedal. The sounds he was getting were so much how I had imagined they would be too, perhaps even cooler. Hot, oozing shrapnel coursed out of the small room he was jamming in. He seemed to be hitting all the right notes too, the ones that I always had trouble finding. I was actually rather miffed.I played it as cool as I could and sort of just hovered around the amp room as the fellow rocked on. Finally another sales person approached me and asked if they could help. I asked if they had another of the shiny silver pedals, but I was told that, no, the one being demoed was the last one. They did have another fuzz pedal, but it was a different brand and just didn't have the same visceral appeal to me as the shiny silver BOSS. At some point, the guy finally stopped playing and wandered out of the amp room. He saw me sort of hovering and started conversation. I told him that I had been actually going to buy the pedal he had been trying out and he told me (much to my happy surprise) that he had decided that he didn't want it and I was free to buy it. The other sales person was already setting up the 'other' fuzz pedal for me though, so I thought I would go through the motions of trying it out since they had gone to the trouble of setting it up. I watched the would-be usurper of my shiny silver fuzzbox walk to another part of the store and then I settled in with the--here not to be mentioned--other pedal. To make an already too long story shorter, while I was futzing with the 'other' pedal in the amp room, the other customer purchased the BOSS pedal and left the store. I was really disappointed. I ended up buying the other fuzz pedal more out of sadness than anything else.I eventually purchased the BOSS here on Amazon. After all of that, I have really only used the pedal a few times so far. But let me say that all it has done is make me want to play it more. There is something so distinctly different about the fuzz this little silver baby puts out. It's not distortion, it's not overdrive, perhaps the best I've heard it described (although it isn't completely right either) is that it sounds like a broken distortion pedal. It does sound like that, only, in my humble opinion, it's a whole lot cooler than just that. As I said earlier when describing the sound of the guy who bought the pedal out from under me, Hot, oozing shrapnel, or maybe A giant killer bee in full body armor are some terms that come to mind. It definitely has the ability to go some places that other 'distortion' pedals don't seem to want to go. I was much pleased to find this item here and I would buy it again. I have played guitar for (choke) over 30 years and this pedal was a really exciting purchase. Hence the review, I haven't written many. Peace.

perfect secondary distortion
I've been searching for a distortion pedal I could add to my rig that would compliment my preferred distortion pedal, the boss metal zone. Don't ask why I didn't think about fuzz for so long... But this is perfect. It's dirtier, chords are thicker, and leads teeter the edge of breaking speakers and blowing up the amp. The contrast between the two pedals adds so many sound options and possibilities. Rock survives to die another day. Thank you fuzz.

boss FZ5 distortion pedal
product took longer to arrive than estimated. come to find out the original pedal came off the pallet with a damaged box. So they waited for the next batch and sent a new one. I thought that was great ,good company. My only complaint is I was not notified of this .I had to track and make contact myself when it didn't arrive on time. Pedal works great no problems.

Be sure to read the manual!
I love this fuzz box! I should have bought one decades ago! It's like a distortion pedal on steroids. I already have plenty of distortion on my sampling amp, but I couldn't get that vintage "11" type sound. This pedal goes to 11!One thing to beware of, which is why I said to read the manual (RTFM!): on the classic setting, if you have the right knob turned too low, you will get an unpleasant drop-out effect. The manual explains that this is caused by design - it's a "feature" of the classic circuitry. My first thought was "it's broken." No, it's not, and turning the knob a bit is all it needs. Great pedal - instant favorite, and I have around a dozen!

Omphaloskepsis isn't the only generator of fuzz
I learned recently that Omphaloskepsis is the principle of navel-gazing. The navel is where you typically where you expect to find fuzz. This isn't that type of fuzz. This is the kind of fuzz that causes your heart to race, muscles to clench, and the head to bang. It is a delicious fuzz that adds a crunch like croutons in a soup. Having a choice of three such crunches is great. (Two of those are linear, the MST fuzz is not a thing I have been able to get my arms around yet). All in all, highly recommended.

It works but not a really smooth fuzz!
The battery that came with it was cheap and dead!
