Start & Run a Tattoo and Body Piercing Studio (Start & Run Business Series) Paperback – February 1, 2011

Full disclosure here -- I'm not starting a tattoo and piercing studio. I do, however, have a relative who's deep into the design of a new studio, with some very new ideas (at least in his part of the world) on how to set one up. As I'm helping draft his business plan, anything that approaches this industry in a businesslike manner was a good catch as far as I'm concerned. I found the Mueller book while wandering through things to buy on Amazon and thought it'd be a good research tool.And that's exactly what Start & Run a Tattoo and Body Piercing Business is -- a tool. I discovered in helping my relative was that most of these operations start with not a lot of business planning. Mueller takes a far more organized approach -- he writes talks about how to write a good business plan, and about everything from shop layout to hiring staff. He provides sample forms for releases, discusses equipment and helps the reader look at how to run his/her shop in a businesslike manner. It's easy to read for non-business types. It's logical, organized and has a ton of good advice. I wish I'd found it at the beginning of my writing, as it'd have provided me with direction that I had to find in a far more circuitous route.The caution here is that Mueller is location based and as any potential shop owner will soon learn, every town, county and state has a massive set of rules (or interprets rules to apply) for tat shops. There are building officials, health officials, fire officials, code officials, licenses, legislation and myriad quirks. Start and Run isn't the directions -- it's the outline. The potential shop owner should read this in detail, then do his/her homework locally. What Start and Run gives you is a guide for what kind of footwork you need to do. And as a guide, this is well worth the price.

I am in the process of opening a Tattoo Studio and this book really helped me out. There's a lot of good information and a lot of truthful information that will prepare you for some of the stumbling blocks you may face. I highly recommend it.

I have been in the Tattooing Industry for over 10 years, and I am in the middle of starting my own parlor. This book explains the industry, the paperwork and the overall process very well. This book even highlights the variety personalities to expect in employees and clients. For someone who may not know a thing about this industry, or just simply would like to own a Tattoo Parlor, these chapters are pure gold!

I bought this book obviously because I want to own my own Tattoo and Piercing studio, this book covers everything. From whether or not the Business is right for you, to insurances, paper work, and choosing the name of your business. The best part is, it showed up the day after i ordered it, and that was with regular shipping! Defiantly a suggested buy!

The book itself is great, covers a lot of ground for the tattoo studio that I'm obviously trying to open. This book is more of a 'framework' and jumping off point to the industry; which is exactly what I wanted. Shipped in a timely manner and was in brand new condition when it arrived.

I have another book that goes into detail about the business side of it in little detail. This book by far goes through the business and the forms needed giving great examples of how it should look like. I recommend this book to anyone.
