Q: Has anyone else experienced condensation in the display? it makes it very hard to read. does anyone know how i can stop this from happening?

Move the display further from the aquarium

Q: Can the bottom part of this heater be touching the rock substrate?

The heater can be fully emerged. I would be careful due to the glass. I have seen others lay heaters on the bottom. On this particular heater the cord is short and would surely prevent you from placing it on the bottom of the tank. Also noted you would have to pull it out to make changes to the thermostat. The knob settings are not accurate and I lost fish when I installed it and the tank became over heated. I have not plugged it back in since.

They have directions right on the side of the box when it ships. Pretty much the heater has to be fully submerged
