This book could save a loved ones life.
Most of us experience each day with a false sense of security about many things. Perhaps the most common is that as long as we aren't involved in extreme sports or choose a career as a mercenary , nothing more serious than a paper cut at the copy machine should endanger us. When the unexpected happens, there's the helpless feeling of, "What do I do?" The title of this book might put some off, because it seems to address the construction industry in the title. Instead it is a book that gives concise information and things to do as a first responder in an emergency, auto accident, kitchen burn or severe cut, for a stranger or someone in our own family. Before even addressing injuries specifics, the first chapter gives insight into Good Samaritan laws and the protection they provide for anyone who renders aid; a huge concern in a litigious society. Each subsequent chapter considers specific categories of emergency from Cardiac arrest, control of bleeding, shock and choking management. One chapter I especially appreciated is Chapter 14, "First Aid Myths". For example, the nosebleed myth is to put our head back until it stops. This is one of the worst things we can do! Or the myth about putting something in the mouth of a person experiencing a seizure so they won't swallow or bite their tongue. Doing so might cause you to lose a finger or cause blockage to their airway. It's notable that the book is small enough to fit in a glove compartment or a desk, it has a metal spiral binding so it can be laid completely flat and remain open, the pages have a lamination and seem impervious to damage or soiling. It's 133 pages long so it's not some massive medical book like Gray''s Anatomy. It emphasizes that this is not designed to transform you into a Doctor or EMT over night. But in many emergencies, just a few minutes can make the difference between a person living or dying. Considering that person could be your child or a family member, this is a book that should not only be on every construction job site, but in the kitchen of every home. Highly recommended and appreciated.

GREAT Book to Have on Hand for Construction Workers.
As a family who has two members in the construction industry as well as high pressure metal working, this is a great book to have. Almost twice the size of a traditional pocketbook paperback, this book is sprial bound. The pages are coated for easy wiping and protection from various wet or oily substances that could ruin a traditional paper page. The sections of the book are as follows:Role of First Aid ProviderEmergency Response/ReactABC's of Life SupportCPR for Cardiac ArrestChoking ManagementControl of BleedingFirst Aid for ShockJobsite Injuries(major and minor impact)Jobsite Illnesses (emergency and jobsite specific)Emergency PreparednessOSHA Reporting and Record KeepingAccident and Incident InvestigationsJob Hazard AnalysisFirst Aid MythsAppendices for: Hazard Control Methods, Common Hazard Descriptions, Sample Job Hazard Analysis FormsThe print in the book is well laid out in a very readable font so that even those who might have to have reading glasses could make out what is said if they can not find their glasses in an emergency for some reason. There are excellent tables and photos as well as illustrations to help in a quick crisis for those who are picture oriented and visually learn well.Instructions are well laid out and easy to follow even in a high stress emergency situation where reading through a lot of writing could be very difficult and waste precious time. There are photos of certain conditions to make for easier identification as well as photos of equipment that might be needed in certain situations too.Changes to OSHA reporting and record keeping are also laid out nicely.Out of everything in the book, I have to say that the chapter that everyone in our home found the most interesting was the most common myths for first aid.The size and construction of this book make it quite easy to store and keep in a vehicle or on a jobsite yet make it easy enough to find and refer to should the occasion arise where you need it.

Good book to have on hand - content & quality
If you're looking to have a field guide first aid book on hand which covers the basic (and then some) of what to do in the event of jobsite injuries, this is a good book to consider. Its layout is easy to follow - and more importantly, easy to access quickly in the event of something happening - and has a clear, easy to follow writing style for you to follow if necessary.I also particularly liked that this book contained a section about some first aid myths out there. Whlie this isn't something I would particularly expect to find, it was a neat addition. Otherwise, this book has all the other elements you WOULD expect to cover, like choking, ABC's, heart attacks, shock, cuts, and so forth. If you're looking to have a decent guide on hand in your truck or in the shop, I would strongly consider this one among your options. I think it would fit your needs.
