Tiny Plug, Big Brain
Good**✅ **Setup in Seconds**: Plug it in, download the Tapo app, and boom—connected in under 2 minutes. No tech degree required .✅ **Voice Control Bliss**: Works flawlessly with Alexa and Google Home. “Alexa, turn off the coffee maker” is my new morning mantra .✅ **Away Mode MVP**: Randomly turns devices on/off to fake that “someone’s home” vibe. Peace of mind for under $20? Yes, please .✅ **Schedule & Timer**: Automate your lamps, fans, or holiday lights. Set it once, forget it forever .✅ **Device Sharing**: Let your roommate/spouse/kids control it too. No fighting over the app .---### **bad**❌ **App Overload**: Tapo app is functional but clunky. Feels like a beta version compared to TP-Link’s Kasa app .❌ **No Energy Monitoring**: Want to track how much power your devices use? Look elsewhere .❌ **Single Outlet**: Can’t control two devices at once. If you need more, grab a smart power strip instead .

MUST HAVE IN EVERY HOUSEHOLD
For quite a small price, this little bugger can do a lot of things. You connect it to your phone and you can check real time wattage of an appliance and track its usage over time. Super easy to use.I got it to check what electric appliance was draining electricity and quickly found the culprit: the kitchen sink heater. If you dont need it for that, you can still use the timer functionality to automatically put on/off a socket at a preset time or make it automatically switch off after being switched on.No more forgetting to switch something off.Now I have full wireless control over one socket using my phone. I can see this being useful to switch lights on/off while on vacation to make it seem like someone is home. (There is a functionality for that too)Overall, 10/10, simple and works great. Everyone should have at least one of these.

Best smart plug app
Great so far! The setup with the Tapo iPhone app and each plug has bas been simple, best part about the plug, is the app. The functionality of the app is far better than others I have used, out-of-the-box routines for auto-turning off, schedules ...What I Like:• Schedules: Setting up schedules (can be done at set times or sunrise/sunset). I’ve got my plug set to turn on (sunset) and off automatically at certain times, which has been really useful for my lamps.• Timers: The automatic timer feature is awesome for turning off the plug after a certain amount of time—I have a fan going in the gym, if it is left on by accident it automatically turns off after 2 hours.• Electricity Usage: The app also shows the history of electricity usage, going from a single day to the year. It’s helped me keep track of how much energy my devices are using, and I’ve even cut down on some wasted power.Design:The plug is small and doesn’t take up much space, which is handy as some of my plug sockets are quite low to the ground. There’s also a manual switch on the side if you want to turn it on or off without using your phone—super convenient if your phone isn’t nearby.Alexa Integration:The Tapo app integrates with Alexa, so I can control everything with just my voice. “Alexa turn on the lights”. Obviously need to tell Alexa which sockets are lamps and which are other objects. But the name synchronise between Alexa and Tapo, so only need to do it once in Tapo.Overall, I’m really happy with the Tapo Smart Plug. It’s easy to use, integrates well with other devices, and the energy monitoring is a nice bonus.Rating: 5/5

Easy to use and setup, love the live energy monitoring!
Pros:- Energy monitoring is amazing! You can see exactly how much power was used when, and how much is being used live.- Schedules and timers work perfectly even when you're not home.- Ability to use it when away from home.Cons:- Doesn't currently work with HomeAssistant (I believe this is being worked on!)- The physical button may be hidden if you have a large plug next to it, but this of course won't impact the app/smart functionality, just something to be aware of!
