Crashed my Macbook Pro 2019 multiple times and the Virtual CD built into the firmware has a malware
Crashed my Macbook Pro 2019 multiple times and the Virtual CD built into the firmware has a malware that consumes hardware resources.I am very disappointed as I thought I got a good deal getting this over cyber Monday deals.I hate this product for multiple reasons.1. As soon as I plugged it into my Macbook pro, my laptop crashed. Mind you, this is a beefy laptop as I use it for software development. I had to reformat the disk to make it usable.2. The virtual CD comes built-in to the firmware!! Meaning, you cannot delete it. I tried using several software and OS (Mac and Linux) to clear it.3. The virtual CD is a malware in disguise. That encryption software is garbage. You can unmount the virtual CD but it will mount itself back. I tried all the tutorials I can find to prevent it from mounting itself, the only one that could possibly work is if you turn off mounting for your entire OS, which wasn't an option for me.4. The said virtual CD/malware uses up my hardware resources. Both my CPU and RAM usage spikes as soon as I plug this thing in. I don't know for sure what it's doing in the background (I didn't have the luxury of time to find out). But it sure as heck look similar to those malware mining for bitcoins.5. I contacted the support mail several times. They said they will release a new version without the virtual CD this month and that I should just return the product and I'll get the new one for "free". It is certainly NOT FREE since I paid for this one.6. There is a rampant malicious practice among some of these Amazon sellers of giving buyers a "gift" in exchange for positive reviews. You have to screenshot your review and they will give you that gift which typically ranges from $15 and up. This seller is one of them. The product is probably marked up to accommodate such "gift" anyway. I hate this because I rely heavily on customer reviews to buy a particular product. And the reviews here misled me to buy this bundle of malware. If I were you, I will stay away from this brand. Who knows what it's doing in your background processes? I will certainly look into how I can report this to Amazon.

DOES NOT WORK!!!!
I plugged it into my Windows 10 system and the computer freaked out. It showed up as a drive for a moment and then locked up the computer until I yanked it from the USB port. Tried rebooting and plugged it in again and, as before, computer rejected it. Will be returning for a refund.

WOW....Trojan.GenericKD.32604267 in Windows Folder - possible fix coming
Purchased this 512gb RavPower SSD to utilize with my MacBook Air for photo storage. It is small and reasonably fast. Two types of cables are provided with the SSD along with a nice carry bag. Can be taken anywhere because of it's small size. My biggest issue (and therefore the one Star) is the discovery of a Trojan horse type virus (Trojan.GenerisKD.32604267) in the windows folder on the virtual cd that contains the tools for encrypting the drive under windows. I use a Mac computer and my virus software is BitDefender. This virus was removed from the computer but still is on the virtual CD. Because of the discovery of the virus, I really have not tested the drive for real performance. I will be reformatting the drive to get rid of the software on it. Not sure I will ever do business with this vender again.Updated 12/2/2019I have updated the star rating to 3 based on the communications with Ravpower over the last two weeks or so. They have reached out with a possible solutions to the virtual CD always appearing upon boot up of the SSD. Over the last two weeks I have had six to seven emails with the customer support and they have been very good at listening to me about my concerns and issues. The have promised a fix sometime at the end of December. I will keep everyone up to date with any changes. Because of the customer support, I have changed the star rating to 3. We will see how things go from here.UpDate 12/18/2019Have not heard back from this company on the firmware update to remove virtual CD. Don't know if this is ever going to happen, Will keep you posted.Update 01/20/2020Virtual CD is still the issue with the firmware of the SSD drive. Can not stop the CD from loading in either Windows 10 f MacOS. Reformatting does nothing to the virtual CD, because that is programmed in the firmware. Firmware needs to be changed. I have been dealing with this company for three months now and no changes. Idle promises.Update 2/14/2020Virtual Cd is still the issue with this device. Had been promised a fix/solution to the issue of the virtual CD loading every time the device is plugged in. As of this date there is no new firmware to correct the virtual CD loading issue. If I were a customer looking for a external Ssd drive, I would look else where. There are quite a few other manufacturers of products like this, that do not inundate the customer with this constantly loading the Virtual CD without your control over it. Extremely disruptive to your work flow. Very evasive to your desktop. People look else where for a product like this.

Failed implementation however beautiful the physical drive
Sleek, nice weight, great size... but what engineer in their right mind forces uses to automatically mount a second drive (think CD) that contains outdated software that can't be removed? Every time you plug in the drive, a usable drive mounts and a CD drive also appears. That alone is annoying - but then knowing the software on that second drive is not compatible with macOS Catalina and not being provided a method to remove it takes the cake.I think this failure will cost them enough to correct the next version - I'm returning mine.

Potential Scam--Useless Drive
The drive runs a virtual CD that you cannot remove. I was hoping to use this as an external drive for my raspberry pi, however the virtual CD prevents it from being recognized by the pi. Additionally the attached software does not function and seems to be flagged as a potential Trojan virus. I was hopeful because this product has such good reviews, however the company offers a $20 amazon gift card for anyone willing to leave a review which seems to be skewing the actual reviews. I will be returning it.
